Once again, Steven Wilson hands us another perfect example of his bottomless talent as a producer and songwriter. I've listened to this for a few days now and I'm discovering new sounds every spin.
The production is as flawless as ever, which could sometimes be a bad thing, but certainly not when you're listening to a Steven Wilson creation. This album is also pretty diverse. It jumps from droney, distorted attacks, to lush soundscapes that send tingles down your spine.
Wilson worked with a range of guest musicians on this, including Gavin Harrison on drums, Jordan Rudess on piano and Tony Levin on bass. This makes the album even more interesting and special.
Overall, Insurgentes touches on some of Steven Wilson's other projects like Porcupine Tree, Blackfield and No-Man, but it still manages to make you feel like you're discovering a completely new side to Steven Wilson.
