A Perfect Circle Thirteenth Step
Thirteenth Step is APC's opus, it's as simple as that. Combining excellent musicianship with flawless songwriting, APC perfected their sound and the result was a gorgeous concept album that never for a second comes off as pretentious or overbearing. APC is a band with a wholly unique sound that is still absolutely accessible, and Thirteenth Step showcases them are their best.

Metallica Master of Puppets
One shouldn't be surprised to see or hear that Metallica's infamous "Master of Puppets" album is praised as a classic by most. It's interesting how even though a great deal of time has passed, it still displays why it's strengths today. The production doesn't show any age, the band is tight and together, and every song is memorable and enjoyable. It's easy to overlook that most of the songs on the album are decently long because there are no dull moments in any of them. Metallica keeps the intensity and power tight on every song.
Overall, it's just a really enjoyable record. Not for everyone, sure, but what is? The truth is, if it wasn't for record like Master of Puppets not only would I have never found the music I love, but it would have been the same for so many others. And that, if anything, is what makes this a classic record.

Slipknot Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses
Slipknot has really come a long way. From their point of view, it was probably difficult to give up that "I hate the world" mentality that was usually included in their records for a much more mature approach to songwriting. This led to obvious criticism from their older fans, but there's no question that this was the best road to take.
Joey's drumming is outstanding, and Mick and James really take songs up to the next level with blistering solos this time around. However, with all this musical progression, it's actually the fact that Slipknot's finally learned when to hold back that really makes this album stand out. Giving up that "all aggression all the time" aesthetic of metal has really made songs like Vermillion much more effective.
Topping the musical aspect of the album off, Corey Taylor's done a really exception job on the lyrics this time around. He really digs deep emotionally, but uses lots of a double meanings, which may hint to the title of the album.
Overall this is a very strong record, I highly recommend it to get into Slipknot's much better material.

The Dillinger Escape Plan Irony Is a Dead Scene
Mad man Mike Patton is truly at his best as he collaborates with a band just as insane as he is. It's hard to complain that there's only four tracks when every track is ridiculously good. As Mr. Patton announces it's "The End" at the end of Hollywood Squares, it's really just beginning. With the strange atmosphere of Pig Latin, to the truly awe inspiring "When Good Dogs Do Bad Things", Irony is a Dead Scene features every artist at their absolute best. I strongly recommend this album to anyone trying to get into Dillinger's eclectic style, somehow Patton makes the album more accessible with his presence...which is by no means a bad thing.

Extremely catchy and enjoyable, this album has a lot of great tracks, especially the first 8. The downfall of the album is actually the ending of the story tracks, which are simply not up to par with the rest of the tracks on the album. The title track, Mother Superior and Feathers make up for this immensely however. A solid buy for any prog rock fan.

Melodic Death metal at it's finest, it is at the this point that Ander's perfected his vocals and was at the absolute top of his game, along with everyone else in the band. Practically perfect, this album has a lot of stand out tracks, like Jotun, The Hive, Jester Transfigured, and of course Episode 666. Interesting concept too. The place the album falters is sub par production and somewhat repetitiveness. As far as melo-death albums go though, this is a must for any fan of the genre.

The Decemberists We All Raise Our Voices to the Air
Even if live albums don't usually appeal to you, We All Raise Our Voices To The Air is an awesome ride, and actually a magnificent introduction to The Decemberist's discography (the setlist has been chosen perfectly). The band sounds fantastic, but it's Colin's between song banter and the moments when he gets the audience involved that really make the record so much fun to listen to (just listen to Dracula's Daughter/O Valencia and tell me you don't at least crack a smile). And hearing all three parts of The Crane Wife consecutively is worth the listen alone.

Not bad for a radio rock CD. The band holds potential that they show off with songs like Hear Me Now and Built For Sin, but the CD is slightly repetitive. Still, the polished, streamlined rock song can be infectious. It's hard to dislike them, but it's not anything to crazy over either.
James Blake James Blake
I can never really decide whether I like this album or not. Some days it feel awkward and bare, and others it feels hypnotizing and intimate. But whether I'm digging it or skipping tracks, I always find myself thinking that this album has gotten a bit more praise than it really deserves. Mr.Blake still has a lot of room to grow.

Bullet for My Valentine Scream Aim Fire
In a desperate attempt to lose the "emo" label that had been following them since their creation, Bullet For My Valentine has practically abandoned all their strengths and in their place adopted the song writing styles of others. Much like Trivium before them, this resulted in a horrible release from the Bullet. The band is obviously trying to be heavier, but in pretty much every case of this they fail miserably. It is actually the album's more melodic content that stands out the most, with the uplifting rocker "Hearts Burst Into Fire" easily cementing itself as an album highlight. However the track practically stands alone as a good track, as there are either glaring flaws or annoying nuances in every other song on the album that makes it very difficult to listen to. Despite a few enjoyable moments, overall I would classify this album as an absolute failure.

I guess I just wanted to believe that the material on the Painful Splits records was simply throw away
material...not really an indicator that Max was losing his touch. I'm so disappointed that I was wrong. I think
the Song Shop project which started as a brilliant idea has made Max a lazy songwriter, who thinks less and
less about what he's putting into each song. So this record could never be ...Is A Real Boy (which he so
desperately wanted it to be), because it simply doesn't feel as sincere. And without the sincerity, what is Say
Anything? Haven't been this disappointed by an album in a long time.

This album is a crushing disappointment in so many ways. Looking at what FFTL used to be and then looking at this is almost disgusting. The band is a weakened, diminished shell of it's former self without Sonny, that's really the bottom line. Without his emotionally charged wails, the weak guitar and bass lines really stand out, and there's only so much that drummer Derek Bloom can do to pick up the slack. If there is one good thing about the album, it's that Derek always gives 110% on every song.
There's no reason why this record should exist. Matthew is not only a mediocre vocalist (only really serving as a good vocalist as Sonny's backup), he's simply not fit to front the band.
I can't name one song I'd like to listen to again off this record, it's awful on so many levels.
Hellyeah Hellyeah
Linkin Park Minutes to Midnight
I was way too harsh on this album in my last sound off, and I kind of feel like a douche for that. So it's not the worst record ever, and some songs are okay, like Bleed It Out, Shadow of the Day, etc.
Bottom line though: Linkin Park WAS good and they aren't anymore. It's a shame, but it's true. There's never going to be another "By Myself" or "Points of Authority. There's going to be more "What I've Done" 's. And anything besides that is basically "This album's version of By Myself because it's 'heavy' and there's screaming!"
Linkin Park is a parody of their former selves, giving into mainstream pressures and finally becoming radio rock darlings. And people bought it. So there's probably no going back.
