Architects Holy Hell
I've been following these guys for about 10 years now and I'm so proud and thankful that this record exists. It would have been so easy after Tom's death for them to give up touring and making music. But they didn't. They gave a middle finger to death and didn't let it destroy the legacy that Tom had built. rI didn't expect them to reinvent themselves and they don't with Holy Hell. But in many cases it feels like Tom is right there in the room writing the record with them and that's an accomplishment in itself.

Ben Howard Collections from the Whiteout
Seemingly less ambitious than Noonday yet Ben continues to push outside his comfort zone. At times he blurs the line between singer-songwriter and poet with his understated crooning vocal delivery. Songs like 'Far Out' and 'You Have Your Way' have a cyclical soothing quality about them that is juxtaposed by off-kilter offerings like 'Unfurling' and 'Finders Keepers'. The latter pair are some of my favorites on this as I find their dissonance very intriguing. Not really sure why he chose to end on 'Buzzard' though.

interesting production with great and catchy vocal hooks. at the moment this album seems rather front loaded for me, and nothing comes quite close to reaching the heights that 'claws' does.

really pleasant experience though some songs don't do much for me. he seems similar to Ben Howard but without as much songwriting chops.

August Burns Red Thrill Seeker
August Burns Red Leveler
Really enjoying this now, but will probably slip the rating down a bit. This isn't a new August Burns Red and no one really expected that. They go for the same approach they've been using the past albums - integrate small amounts of new ideas in every new effort. In Leveler ABR adds new quirks - i.e. Dustin gets a chance in the spotlight and sounds terrific('Carpe Diem'). An ending wall of death inducing breakdown('Poor Millionaire'). At the same time they're still the same ABR they've always been. Dischordant riffs, crushing breakdowns, the occasional random guitar solo, clean post-rocky sections. And yes, Matt Greiner is still a superb drummer. Some listeners might have grown bored of ABR's sound already. For me, I can't get enough.

Northlane Node
Good to see a band unafraid to actually change (sorry ABR, surf-interludes don't really count ;) ). Northlane has taken on elements of alternative-metal while at the same time eliminating some of the annoying metalcore cliches (uninspired forced clean vocals & songs structured entirely around mindless breakdowns for instance). And they still sound like Northlane. Highlights include 'Soma', 'Rot', and the fantastic closer 'Animate'.

Plini Sunhead
As a big Plini head I can't help but be slightly disappointed on first listens. It's admirable that he's pushing his boundaries outside of his 'djent' roots by adding a jazzier sound with the piano and saxophone. That being said much of this ep lacks the raw energy and soaring leads that got me interested in the first place.
