This album takes what you've heard in their live shows and throws it in a blender with the title track from the Water Curses EP, which is enough for me to love it. But even more lovable for fans is that the Sung Tongs beats are clearly audible in the background, driving some of the songs. Perhaps my favorite moment on the album comes in "My Girls" at the 3 minute mark as the percussion tapers, the chorus runs, and you hear a howl that makes you want to howl, too. It really hits me in the gut, because I know the emotion in that howl is the same one I felt when I found the girl of my dreams. Even the songs that don't have quite as big of a kick, like "Also Frightened" and "Taste," are not just beautiful, but catchy. This is an album I'm glad I got to hear, and it's one I don't think I'll take out of my car's CD player or my "Kick-Ass 50" iTunes playlist for quite some time. |
