I'm pretty upset that no one has reviews for this band. They are freaking amazing

I would have never expected such a sick ass progressive death metal album from a band called Slugdge. I was thoroughly expecting some slow sludgy stuff but this was magnificent DM. First album I have ever heard from these guys and I now plan to listen to every one of their albums. The songwriting on this superb and the subject matter is amazing!

I'm not sure if I like this more than their first ep cuz I'm a huge fan of wankery. But they take a different direction this time, opting to go for lead-ups and atmosphere, which suits them well. I liked the vocals on the first ep a little better because they seemed stronger. Musicianship is still quite good. Like I said, they toned the technicality but there is enough feeling here to overshadow that minor complaint. I say minor because, although they are not jumping from riff to riff on this release, the riffs that are there have staying power and fit well within the atmospheric mold. All in all, I would recommend this to any fan of post-metal and metalcore, as the atmosphere gives it a post-metal feel while some of the riffs remind you that they are still metalcore.

this is a solid post-metal record. They seem like a mixture of Pelican and Irepress but leaning more toward the Pelican reference. On their bandcamp this album is name your own price, so you can either donate or just put in 0 and download it. I recommend you give it a shot. It is free to listen, after all.

As Oceans Enough Light to Warrant the Contrast
This had cool parts but it felt like whenever they had a cool riff they would just say "fuck it" and go with some chugging instead. There were parts I really liked and parts that seemed like they didn't fit in the context of the song. The keyboards were a good addition and had some catchy parts. That said, a big reason they stand out at all is because of the aformentioned constant chugging. This band could probably be pretty good if they base their music more loosely on deathcore rather than solely on deathcore. Also, the vocalist almost sounds exactly like the vocalist who first recorded Rareform with After the Burial. I don't know if he actually is that guy or if anyone cares. Just thought I'd point that out

As much as i wanted this to be great, i just can't bring myself to like the album as a whole. Yeah, C'est La Vie was good, but if it's honestly the best song on the album (which it is) then u shouldn't release it as the single and make everyone think your album is gonna sound like that. I've listened to this a few times hoping it was a grower but alas, I came up empty and sad on the inside, realizing that a band was once on the top of my list can't top their best album; therefore, rendering them stagnant. I hope you can real me in on the next one guys, but for now I will occasionally listen to C'est La Vie for glimpses of what this album could have been
