| coin coin is definitely tough to swallow, but each song on here is a very emotional experience with genuinely bone-chilling screams and contrastingly detached spoken word parts. these parts pair an unnerving aloofness in delivery with lyrics that contain attrocities of rape, death, and abuse through the eyes of a slave woman. the musicianship is also quite impeccable, with great sax playing (an obvious must) and moody piano melodies sparsed throughout. though the ideas presented lyrically are quite dense, the song structures aren't too out of the ordinary for the genre. this album is gripping in every sense and though i doubt i'll be able to listen to it again for at least a few more weeks, i definitely suggest that anyone with at least a moderate interest in free-jazz and experimental music should check this out. |
