Architecture In Helsinki In Case We Die |
Oddly bitter pop music with a sweet candy coating. In Case We Die has it's detractors, but there's a lot of genuinely fantastic pop here once you can get behind Cameron Bird's off-kilter vocal delivery. |
At the Drive-In Relationship of Command |
At the Drive-in pretty much renders most punk bands obsolete. Between this, in/Casino/Out and Vaya, they've made a godly triangle of post-hardcore albums that almost can't be beat. |
At the Drive-In In/Casino/Out |
If you asked me, I would probably tell you this is my favourite ATDI album. While Relationship of Command is a masterstroke in it's own right, in/Casino/Out embodies a whole different set of emotions, with the infinitely catchy, almost pop-punk style of For Now... We Toast or Hulahoop Wounds and the funky aggression of Chanbara, it's extremely well rounded and more importantly, extremely well written. |

Bjork Post |
Boredoms Pop Tatari |
Loosely tied together only by a few crushing guitar riffs and the enigmatic vocals of Yamantaka Eye, Pop Tatari is otherwise content to storm through genre's and soundscapes like a horde of wildebeest. |
Born Gold I Am An Exit |
Botch We Are the Romans |
Botch An Anthology of Dead Ends |
Brainiac Hissing Prigs in Static Couture |
As much a trainwreck as it is a post-hardcore, dance-punk, noise-rock gem. Brainiac has been called the most underrated band ever, and their influence has been attributed to bands such as At the Drive-in, The Blood Brothers and The Locust. Making use of an insane assortment of effects, Brainiac's twisted sense of song-writing is inherently inaccessible, completely ridiculous, but absolutely incredible. |

1.5 or something, the songs aren't bad, but the instruments are performed terribly and the
vocalist is an asshat. |

The Blood Brothers ...Burn, Piano Island, Burn |
Catchy rhythmic dissonance, killer hardcore riff's, oddly melodic passages and one of the most original vocal duo's ever make Burn Piano Island, Burn a modern punk masterpiece. Mathy, catchy, noisy, melodic, what the Blood Brothers have on display is full of contradictions and disparate influences, but ultimately works to create a sound that might never be achieved again. |
The Blood Brothers Crimes |
Musical taste is subjective, and Crimes is proof. Exaggerating every aspect of The Blood Brothers sound to create a ferocious amalgam of styles that will either win you over or drive nails through your skull. Fuzzed out bass lines, killer punk riffs and strangely baroque sensibilities make this one of post-hardcore's strangest gems. |
The Sawtooth Grin Cuddlemonster |
The Sawtooth Grin does not let up. Cuddlemonster is having your face pounded in for 15 minutes, and the short bursts of melody are the fleeting seconds of bliss in which you think you're about to die, only to return to having your face pounded in. |

Why? Alopecia |
Why? Elephant Eyelash |
While Why?'s music generally tends to fall under the umbrella of trip-hop or indie-rock, the range of emotions they're able to convey while adhering to those two styles (whether intentional or not) is impressive. Elephant Eyelash is at times one of the cheeriest, most cathartic albums, and at others is downright melancholy. |

17 minutes of insanely catchy screamo/post-hardcore riff's and a winning team of vocalist's makes for one of my favourite releases in the genre. What LLE does isn't particularly groundbreaking, but damn, they do it well. |
