I definitely agree that this is among the best thing any of them have done since AnCo?s heyday. In fact, this is just as good as AnCo?s heyday.
Beach House Bloom
Beach House 7
This is the finest they?ve sounded since Bloom. Each song is drenched in a dense, dimly-lit atmosphere that still finds a way to build and for each track to well, bloom, for a lack of better word. If you think that Beach House has tended to play it safe over the years and want something different, this is definitely it. They?ve done something different, yet still manage to be distinctly Beach House. There isn?t a weak song here and each are song of the year worthy in their own way. The last three tracks here may be their best stretch of tracks in their whole discography, especially the gorgeous ?Woo,? which may very well be the best song they?ve put together. I expected something special here as Beach House is one of my favorite bands, but this blew away any expectations I had. I think I?ve found my album of the year.

It's not for everyone, but for those who get it, it is a master-class in metalcore. It's noisy, it's chaotic, it's loud, it's wild, it's sad, but most of all, it's melodic and cathartic. It's hard to understand the lyrics as they go, but once they are read, they stay with the listener. All of the sounds with the emotions and the poetic lyricism create one of the finest metalcore albums around; it even touches the realm of psychedelic and shoegaze music. rThis album is really just an overload to the senses, but it is an overload in the best way possible. All of the feelings you feel on this album will be the same feeling you feel whenever you let your own Jane Doe run along. It is hopelessness, depression, heartbreak, anger, sadness, loneliness, and ultimately happiness and relief all cooked up in a ferocious, crazy album. Whether you love or hate our figure, Jane Doe, she is here to stay and has become an icon of the metalcore scene. 5/5

Deafheaven Sunbather
I haven't written a sound off for this yet and that's surprising considering its one of my all-time favorites. This album is incredible. I remember the first time I heard it, I was completely confused. Confused as to how a shoegaze album could be this heavy, how a metal album could shimmer with such beauty, and how a post-rock album could bring some new life into the genre. Somehow, this seemingly convoluted hot mess actually flourished. The lush, beautiful soundscapes of each track transport you to another world, where things are just.. better. I had some of the best times of my life with this album as well: new relationship, falling in love, and just overall good memories as well. The tracks have a formula: song, interlude, song, interlude, etc. The sheer beauty keeps you glued in from start to finish. I come back to this album it seems on the daily. I just simply cannot - will not - get enough. Album of the year 2013 and one of my favorites of all time.
Deafheaven Infinite Granite
This is gonna rule. I have no doubts about it. Some of you might hate this direction but I absolutely love it. Every new single just hits me in all the right ways. Not been as excited for an album from them this much since Sunbather. Edit: after listening: yep, as good as sunbather. Someone punch me; I?m dreaming. It?s blissful.

Movie was so good! This score is incredible. Favorite horror movie of the year this year. If you haven't seen it yet, do yourself a favor. Not only is it visual candy, this score helpsrmake it what it is. A future cult classic in my eyes. r"Father" is one of the creepiest songs I've ever heard. And I love it.
Everything Everything Get to Heaven
Everything Everything Mountainhead
EE does it yet again. I was afraid they had lost their momentum after releasing A Fever Dream and Re-animator, but they have released two of their best albums since with Raw Data Feel, and now this, which in my opinion, could rival Get to Heaven, easily. It needs more listens before I definitively make that call, but this exceeds any expectations I had set (and they were pretty high!). rThis album features some of the slickest and glitteriest production seen in pop music in some time, and it is carried by some of the best and most memorable hooks in their whole discography (?Wild Guess,? ?Your Money, My Summer,? ?Buddy, Come Over,? ?Daggers Edge,? ?City Song?). I could go on and on about this album. EE had the bar set so high with Get to Heaven, but this might just be their new bar to clear. Light to decent 11 out of 10

A perfect mesh of their previous ventures. Still as chaotic and all over the place as Aesthethica was, yet, it's as if they refined every element and did not throw out 2015's Ark Work experimentation, instead, they use the better elements from that album and it all coalesces into a stronger, better whole. I knew they were onto something with "God of Love," but it's a whole new ballpark whenever that's not even the strongest song on this album. Completely mind-blowing and a masterpiece in every way. It's like if Midsommar were an album
M83 Hurry Up, We're Dreaming
Mae The Everglow
One of the most, if not the most, uplifting album around. This is a concept album describing a man's life and his search for "The Everglow". This album is one experience that cannot be described, but instead must be experienced for oneself. Each song flows into the next, making this album most powerful when listened to as a whole. The songs are beautiful, musically and lyrically. It's smooth, accessible, and catchy. This is the epitome of a perfect album. Recommended for everyone, even casual listeners can find something great in this album.
Mae (e)vening
This is THE farewell album. Mae leaves us on a very beautiful note. This album creates a dreamy atmosphere for the listener. It's soft, calm, and smooth. While the songs with vocals are some of Mae's best work, the piano suite entitled "Seasons (I,II, and III)" is something everyone (especially Mae fans) should get excited about. It is, in my opinion, Mae's masterpiece. It is 13 and a half minutes of "piano-y" bliss. While it is heartbreaking to know that a group that many have loved so dear is no longer going to be making music, one cannot help but appreciate the bittersweet sunset they have left behind with them.

Probably one of the greatest shoegaze albums since the 90s. Every track is stunning. It really puts me in a zoned out daze where time seems to slow down if just for a moment. Slowdive Souvlaki
Slowdive Slowdive (LP)
Maybe I'm crazy, maybe I'm biased when it comes to Slowdive (or maybe I'm a little bit of both), but this is hands-down one of the best albums I've heard this year, and may possibly become the best I've heard by the end of the year. I get that it's natural to be a little concerned after the release of "Star Roving," and I'll admit that was my first thought too. It's a great song, but it recalls a lot of generic nu-gaze sound that's been popular throughout the 2010's. Fortunately, the song grew on me quite a bit, and it's also the only misstep on this album. I was afraid that maybe they'd sound more like a wannabe Slowdive rather than the real deal. Thankfully I was wrong. This recalls a lot of Slowdive's older work, namely Just for a Day (there's a little Souvalki sprinkled in as well with "No Longer Making Time" and "Don't Know Why"), and brings it to the present. Rachel's voice is just as ethereal and soothing as it was in the 90's. The tremolo wails of the guitar are everywhere. Neil's voice, though definitely taking on some age, is still just as lovely, and the age actually brings a new dimension to the sound I think. There's just so much here to love. "Slowmo" and "No Longer Making Time" are some of my favorites from Slowdive. I went into this with subpar-for-Slowdive expectations, especially after "Star Roving," but wow.. Incredible album, everything here just blew me away. Slowdive has aged wonderfully. Best thing since Souvlaki. Prolly gonna move this up after some time passes. Fuck it, it's a 5.

Vampire Weekend Contra
In my opinion, this is the greatest Vampire Weekend album. It's quirky, wild, and fun. Each time I listen to this album, it feels like the first time I've ever heard it. It's hard to pick a favorite as they're all pretty much highlights. Their other albums are great, but I feel this embodies the sound that so many indie artists try to achieve yet never quite successfully pull off. "White Sky," "California English," and "Cousins" are probably the ones from here I listen to most, but you really can't go wrong listening to any of this album. So incredibly underrated too. How this only has an average of 3.5 is quite a shame. Will be a blast to listen to during the upcoming summer as well!

Anberlin Lowborn
Upon first listen, I can say that this is Anberlin's best work besides Cities. It's combined all their past influences as well as shown us a new side of Anberlin. Upon more listens it'll probably either become better than Cities, or it may not be as great as I think it is now. Regardless, time will definitely tell. As of now, this album features some of Anberlin's best songs as well as "Velvet Covered Brick," which might be the best song they've done thus far, imo. Anberlin have given us one hell of a ride and I will miss them dearly. Hopefully they'll come back to us in the future

Beach House Once Twice Melody
The indescribable, luxurious, pleasure we've all come to know and expect from Beach House. It can be a less-than-enthusiastic experience for some, but if you've followed the band over all these years, they are doubling down on their sound while upping the production. The end result is a wonderful opus revisiting sounds from older albums but compiling it into something new to get lost in. Sure it might not reach the heights of Bloom or Depression Cherry, but it does bring several new highlights for the band, namely "Superstar," "Many Nights," "Modern Love Stories," and "New Romance". Probably my 3rd favorite Beach House album so far.

Whether this sounds absolutely tragic or happy is totally up to the listener, but either way, it's hard to deny that Copeland has made their masterpiece with You Are My Sunshine. Hate all ya want on Enter Shikari, but they're pretty fucking awesome and quite original. I'm anticipating this album quite a lot. The Last Garrison has me hooked and Never Let Go of the Microscope is brimming with a very strange, Gorillaz-ish sound with Shikari flair coming out in full force halfway through the song on through the end. So far, those might be the strongest of all their songs, save for maybe.. "Radiate," song fucking owns.

These hooks are absolutely unreal, and some of their danciest beats they've ever constructed. I had been a bit disappointed by them for the last 2 albums, but this is incredible! Easily their best since Get to Heaven, and some moments from this I feel are even better than that album.

Going from "Show Yourself" to this full album is quite the biggest surprise I've had in a while. I was not particularly fond of that song (I actually hated it) and had low expectations for this album, especially since I haven't cared for an album by Mastodon since Crack the Skye, but this really caught me off guard. Each track here is awesome and filled with exciting guitar riffs and explosions of sound. "Roots Remain," "Clandestiny," and "Jaguar God" are among some of their best in their entire discography. Really every track rules except for "Show Yourself." It doesn't fit in this album and I have no idea why they felt they should include it. It would be nearly perfect if it weren't for that misstep.
Mayday Parade Black Lines
Mayday Parade are showing us their heavy side? "One of Them Will Destroy the Other" actually sounds promising. edit: After my first soundoff after hearing more than just their first single, I now know this isn't just a heavier outing. Mayday Parade take some risks and completely reformulate their sound. Their earlier days were catchy pop-punk. This album; however, is more of an emo approach. It has a Brand New vibe to it. Very wonderful album. It's definitely their most unique release as of yet. Romantics is still my favorite as of now, but it's an admirable effort to distance themselves. Curious to see what they have next for us.

Mew Visuals
Would it be Mew without really tacky album art? I think not. Edit: Upon listening to the album, this is quite a strange move for Mew. They ditch really anything they've previously done for a more Indie-Pop album. There isn't much going on in terms of guitar riffs like their previous albums, with synths filling their place. It's short (almost too short), and it may bamboozle long-time Mew fans, but it's a hell of a grower! I just wish they'd have blessed us with another epic closer, but that's my only real gripe here.

This is a very underappreciated album. It's claimed to be "too generic," or "not enough diversity," while it may not be groundbreaking in the vocals department, they create something special with their instrumentals. They always seem to ingulf you with atmospheric ambiance. Unfortunately this is their last release with this type of instrumental sound. In my opinion, I feel like you should give this album a shot despite what people say. You might like it as well.

Y'all are being overdramatic. I was kinda leery of this at first due to the singles myself (except for the Grimes single; that one is a bop), but really outside of those tracks, this album is quite great, especially the opener and closer. Really digging the electronic experiments here. The only real downside is the extremely generic and tired nu-metal tracks, but if you can look past those there's something pretty good here. "I Apologise If You Feel Something," "Ouch," and "Fresh Bruises" are some really neat highlights of the album for sure.

Best they have ever sounded, and that?s saying quite a lot since I adored their first two albums. It?s darker, richer, and fuller while still retaining the charm CHVRCHES has always excelled at.

I will admit, I have never been a Swans fan, but damn. These two singles released so far are some of the most drab, boring, meandering songs in their discography. The 1975 I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It
The actual title is "I like it when you sleep for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it" (Which is, yes, an even worse title). It's pretty much what you expect to hear from a 1975 album. Friendly pop rock that AbsolutePunk thinks is "timeless" (again), but this time there is more diversity.

Thrice The Alchemy Index Vols. I & II
Thice does a little experimenting with their sound with The Alchemy Index Vols. I and II. Vol I (Fire) is gritty and heavy, like fire. While Vol I is probably one of my least favorite releases by Thrice, they make it up with Vol. II (Water). Water is very calming, peaceful, and relaxing. It also features soft electronic vibes. In my opinion, Water is the best of all of the Alchemy Indexes.
Thrice The Alchemy Index Vols. III & IV
Thrice continues their experimentation with Vols. III & IV (Air and Earth, respectively). Air is, well, airy. It features more of a clean guitar sound, and Earth features more of stripped-down, acoustic sound. I'd have to say that Air is probably the best Index on this album, and also my second favorite of all of the Alchemy Indexes.

I?ve liked most everything since Degenereterra, but idk, I wasn?t feeling this one a ton. To Speak, to Listen and The Architect might be formulaic to a fault, but they were much more enjoyable listens than this. It?s lacking of really any hooks or really anything. It?s just heavy and chuggy without much of anything to keep my interest. There were a few songs sprinkled throughout that I found decent in tracks 5 through 8. But it felt like it breezed by me and ended out of nowhere. I was pretty hyped for this but was ultimately letdown. Maybe it will improve with more listens. We?ll see.

It?s good but nothing to write home about. Kinda lost touch with post-hardcore over the years but this band has always been pretty special to me. This album definitely isn?t as good as their previous ones, but ?Degenerates,? ?Symphony of Skin,? and ?The Sound of Breathing? are definitely among the best in their discography. The rest here isn?t bad, but it?s definitely a pretty generic softened post-hardcore release.

Imagine Dragons ƎVOLVE
Yes, I liked Night Visions in 2012, and I even still like it now. After that album, the stadium rockers turned to almost Nickelback status with their next album. Smoke + Mirrors just wasn't good. Here on Evolve, though, I was very surprised. I went into this with the mindset of "let's just get this over with so I can hate on it," especially since the singles were garbage. Surprisingly, though, outside of the singles, this album is pretty damn good. "Walking the Wire," "Rise Up," and "Mouth of the River" are better than anything on their first album. I get it's easy to hate on these guys especially from their previous outing but I think if you give this album a chance you may find some things you like as well. This shouldn't even be compared to new Linkin Park. I'm getting the vibe that most folks rating didn't even listen to this.

Three previously released songs and one new one. Good EP, but I feel it's quite a step backward from One Big Particular Loop. 1. "17 New Years": 3.7/5 Great song. Tied as my favorite on here. Probably would've been my favorite, but it's kinda repetitive after a while. 2. Not My Real Life: 2.3/5 The previously unreleased track (and I can see why). Pretty annoying song really. Too long/boring intro to the song. Vocals and overall atmosphere of the song is just annoying. 3. "Osaka Son" 3.1/5 The song doesn't sound bad, but it's just not their style. 4. "Moona Festival" 3.7/5 Almost has a Hail to the Thief vibe to it. It might actually be my favorite on here. Would've been a much better EP if this were their overall sound they were going for. Overall, this EP is about more along the lines of 3.2/5 but I don't have cool tenths of a number rating system. Kinda disappointing really. OBPL is much, much better, and they seem to be headed backward in direction.r

Just alright, imo. "Prayers/Triangles" starts the album off on the right foot in a very beautiful and somewhat dreamy note. After that, the meat and guts of the album is pretty mediocre at best, with "Acid Hologram" and "Doomed User" being the worst tracks on the album. Tracks 4 through 8 might as well be the same song, save for "Hearts/Wires" which is decent. Picks up the pace at "Gore," which is one of the better tracks, continues on through the dreamy "Phantom Bride" (more like "Hearts/Wires" done the right way), and finishes with "Rubicon," which I think is the strongest track on this album. Rating this album was pretty tough as the strong points were really strong, but it was way too weighed down with the meat and guts of this album which mainly moped and meandered from start to finish.

Pretty bland indie/hip-hop album. Then again I'm not a huge hip-hop fan as it is. I was able to stomach the whole thing though. It has some moments of catchiness, but the lyrics are extremely cringeworthy. Example: "Well if it feels good, then go ahead and do it girl. You the only one, there's really nothin' to it girl. I mean there's hella dudes, but I'm like hella cute. And I'm like hella sad. Cause I've been really tryna fuck you like hella bad. But you've been holding back. Is it because I'm black? Silversun Pickups Better Nature
The first two songs are very promising: continuing with their weird sound. "Cradle (Better Nature)," the greatest track, is dizzying and hypnotic, same for "Connection." Sadly, after this track, it feels like they lost steam. Much of the meat of the album is drawn out and just overall "meh" quality. It gets a little better again with "Tapedeck," but then that track begins to get annoying by the end as well. This album also lacks diversity. Much of it feels like 80's electropop. It's on Pandora Premiers (9/21/15-9/25/15) if you're feeling froggy and wanna try it out. It's not bad, but I doubt I'd ever come back to it, honestly, except for the first two tracks. Half of it is super good and rivals Applause. The other half is boring; the auditory equivalent of drying paint. I wish they would have doubled down on the dream pop and held back off the more grimy, sludginess. For every strong moment (Straight Lines, Future Bird), there?s an equally terrible stumbling block (These Black Claws, Freak). I really want to love this a lot as the strong points are really strong, but man does this get held back at times.

I am not sure that they could have possibly made a more boring album. Surprisingly still not their worst album, though as it is still better than the massive flop that is Painting With . At this point, it is hard to really know what to expect from them, and that is completely fine, but I am not sure sparsely populated electronics over moans that do not ever change pitch was the best way to go. Guess it is still better than belching Rugrats synths though.
Animal Collective Isn’t It Now?
So you get a fuckin masterpiece of a song (Defeat) that is not only amazing on its own, but amazing in the whole Animal Collective discography. But you also get a bunch of bullshit that meanders and overstays its welcome for the rest. Defeat had me pumped. The rest of this sounds like a very lethargic off-brand medieval prog band not knowing what the hell they wanna do or sound like. Kings Walk might as well be a meme. This is just bad. The full potential was there for a resurgence and, yet, it was wasted.

A gorgeous, yet exhausting and repetitive listen. I feel so disappointed in a way, but we'll see how I feel upon further listens. "Opera House," "Flash," and "Truly" stand out as highlights, but the rest of it might as well be "K." on loop. It's the aural equivalent of too much of a good thing. If Cigarettes After Sex would take their signature sound and evolve a little and throw us some neat little curves here and there while retaining their beloved sound, I feel I'd like this more. Instead they rest on their laurels to the point of nausea. A track here and there is amazing, but it's painful to make it through the whole album in a single sitting.
Circa Survive Blue Sky Noise
Converge The Dusk in Us
Deadmau5 While(1<2)
Ellie Goulding Delirium
Pretty big disappointment. I liked Halcyon and Lights. Expected better than this at first, but once she released "On My Mind," I saw she was going for a more commercial and pop sound. This album isn't a complete failure, but in comparison to her previous attempts, this is pretty poor. I've enjoyed some of the songs on here, but the album does lack personality. Maybe her next attempt (if she has one) will be more experiemental
Everything Everything A Fever Dream
Everything Everything RE-ANIMATOR
This is probably the most "okay" or "average" album I've ever heard. It's better than A Fever Dream, but it sucks and is laughable in comparison to Get to Heaven

Andrew W.K. You're Not Alone
Animal Collective Painting With
Devoid of really any dynamics, variation, or personality. Vocals could use a bit more range as well and vocal harmonies are not as important as I thought they would be. Pretty stripped down and boring tbh. I am disappointed. Was looking forward to this album. Pretty unmemorable

Band of Horses? upon listening: outside of Slapstick and title track, I didn't hear any Band of Horses. Kinda wish it was though because outside of those two and Won't Drown, this was nearly unlistenable. In fact, Crown Candy is the worst thing I've heard this year, and probably one of the worst songs this decade, along with Gameshark which is unbearable vocals over electronics from Nicki Minaj's "Stupid Hoe." It won't let me give it less than a 2 right now but this is definitely like a 1.3 or so. Absolutely terrible. The disappointment of the year.
Gorillaz Humanz
Gov't Mule Dark Side Of The Mule
Please, someone, listen to that cover of "Great Gig in the Sky" *cringes*
I See Stars The End of the World Party
Kanye West Jesus Is King
Kelela Hallucinogen
I guess FKA Twigs is all the rage now so we had to have someone else try to be her. Great. Another
electronic/R&B artist trying to do the same ol crap that is severely overrated.

Album art looks like a 6th grade geography textbook. Edit: what a shitty album. Next to Everything Now, this is the second biggest disappointment of the decade.
Walk the Moon Talking is Hard
We Came As Romans We Came As Romans
I normally have a soft spot for these guys, but these two new singles are not impressive.
"Regenerate" is better than the other one but neither are great. Will give this a chance upon
release but this will not go into my pre-orders like the previous 3. Hoping the rest is
better. rImpression so far: 1.5/5. What happened to the band I used to know?

Edit: It's about what I figured: a sellout album. Many of the songs don't sound much different
than something you'd hear in a Breaking Benjamin album or maybe just some radio-friendly
pop/rock. While I have nothing against Breaking Benjamin, I hate this album because I've seen
where this band started out and where they've come to.
Yellowcard Lift a Sail
You Me At Six Night People

1.0 awful
A Day To Remember You're Welcome
A Hero a Fake The Future Again
While A Hero A Fake hasn't been a band to do anything special or groundbreaking, they fall flat on their face with this album. It's bad. Avoid at all costs. The screams are about the worst yet and the instrumentals are very disappointing, which is a bummer because instrumentals are about all they had going for them in the past.
Aqua Megalomania
Arcade Fire Everything Now
Avicii Stories
Sounds atrocious so far.. more dance music for not dancing. And featuring Mumford & Sons to boot! "Pure Grinding" is annoying. "Broken Arrows" might as well be considered a country song.. Except worse: dance/country. I think this will be worse than True
Black Veil Brides We Stitch These Wounds
Breathe Carolina Savages
brokeNCYDE Will Never Die
Bruno Mars Doo-Wops & Hooligans
Cigarettes After Sex Cry
Just in case you happen to live under a rock and have not heard a single song by this band, here are nine more versions of that same song. What a 0-dimensional band. Downright repulsive at this point.
Dan Friel Life
I feel like this is noise for the sake of noise. It kinda sounds like someone let a 5 year old run wild with one of those V-Tech kids laptops from back in the day. I feel like this was marketed by Tylenol to get people to buy their products. Can't really put into words how much I loathed this album. I'm gonna go put a hot towel on my head
Father John Misty Pure Comedy
Literally the hardest album I've ever made it through. Long, painful, monotonous. Spend your time elsewhere
Five Iron Frenzy Cheeses... (Of Nazareth)
All I have to say about this album, you ask? NOOOOO GRANDMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
Julia Holter Aviary
The audio equivalent of the flower halo Snapchat filter. Also ?Les Jeux to You? may be just the worst song I?ve ever heard. My ears are crying blood
Julia Holter Something in the Room She Moves
Justin Bieber Under the Mistletoe
Luke Bryan Kill the Lights
Meghan Trainor Title
Miley Cyrus Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz
Da meelky meelky meelk. Your tongue milking me so hard. And from sucking on your nipples. Licking
milky, milky stars. Frankly, I feel like a slab of butter.
Mumford and Sons Wilder Mind
This is one of those times that I wish I could make 0.0 my official rating. I loved Sigh No More probably more than
I should have and Babel was alright but this is just awful. Washed up Coldplay wannabes (except maybe worse).
(And I hate Coldplay). Parentheses.
Sufjan Stevens The Ascension
I appreciate this from a standpoint that it can help me go to sleep when I am experiencing insomnia. A long, boring, slog with absolutely no redeeming qualities.
Suicide Silence Suicide Silence
The Beatles Yellow Submarine
The Fray Helios
Can't explain how bad this is. I was one of the ones who unfortunately gave this a listen on my google play all access account. Bad bad bad. His voice is worse than ever, the instrumentals sound like shit. For real, he sounds like he's shitting as he sings. Thank god I didn't have to pay for this album.
