The Killers Pressure Machine
Lyrically and thematically, this does indeed stand a tall head and shoulders above every other Killers project. Small town life - the rubber tire factory, the train tracks, hillbilly heroin...Re-occuring topics weave their way throughout the album like a tapestry. Musically it's nothing incredible, but it is a different and welcome sound, filled with subtle melodies and quieter tones. Leans heavy into the americana, country-folk sound with a bit of the Brandon Flowers bombast. Most certainly contender for the best Killers album. 4.4/5 NOTE: don't listen to the abridged version of this on spotify, if you do you're missing the entire point of the album

After a watered down rehash (Every Open Eye) of their debut and a half-assed attempt at chart climbing electropop (Love Is Dead), CHVRCHES actually return to the drawing board and change their sound up. this is actually hilarious? Released a single about insulting you and your mom and dad, released a single about calling everyone ugly, managed to headline Reading, got such a negative reaction that in addition to a nasty bottling, someone threw a WHEELCHAIR at them and they call it the highlight of their career.

The album itself feels like a send-up of turn of the century Spice Girls-esque hyperactive pop tunes mixed with the attitude of a mean girl with a valley accent. It's not incredible, but it is genuinely funny to listen to

Janelle Monae Dirty Computer
The Cindi Mayweather theatrics give way to something even more human and relatable than any other of Janelle's works. Muddy mixing feels intentional 4 vibes but i feel like mister brown gets shafted more by it which is a shame bc the reason i was so hype for this was to hear Danny (enjoyable rapper) over Jpeg beats (very fun and creative) but i'm tired of hearing bars from someone who calls a mixtape over a decade into his career scaring the hoes. they're both funny sometimes though. listen to it its good

Kero Kero Bonito Time 'n' Place
Where as Generation supplied tongue-in-cheek bubblegum pop that was straight fun to listen to, Time n Place is music both more subdued and more frenetic. Still fun, but more experimental and much less bubblegum. Also of important note - the earnestness found in their previous, bubbly albums? That same earnestness is here in the depiction of depression and generally unwell feelings. Not what fans would expect, but appreciated all the same (if not more).

Kylie Minogue Impossible Princess
Kylie's 'creative' album is pleasing to the ears on almost all accounts (a couple tracks overstay their welcome with repetition). Sadly, it wasn't the commercial success she was looking for and the princess went back to more accessible pop soon after. Impossible Princess remains Kylie's hidden gem, and I recommend it to all. With strong brushes of trip-hop and rock, Kylie could stand in for early Shirley Manson on many of these tracks, and that would be just fine.

Per usual, Rory lets loose a stream of verbose and ear-catching poetry. The whole thing is great, but tracks 9 to 11 are the best trio. The theme of Bob Kaufman and his abommunism runs strong from front to back, the album littered with references to his life and culminating in the reading of the Abommunist manifesto. 4/5

This version is of the album is by far the most solid, but it's worth mentioning the extra 8 tracks you can get off the other two versions - a couple of them are great, specifically Rocketship, Weather Girl, and Photograph. There's also an almost-out-of-place yet stylishly sleek cover of Ritz.

interesting off-the-wall electro pop. each track is it's own slice of a different cake. Melos is a highlight, melding future bass with jazzy/lounge sounds. It doesn't sound like it would work, but it does. And it's a testament to how much this trio has honed their skill.

The most hectic background music you could think of. For a three hour long sound collage to hold some form of my attention on every track is no small feat, hence the 3.5, and it is interesting from a 'where are these samples coming from' and 'why do they sound like they're all writhing in a pile in which the goal is for one to somehow win out over the others', but at the end of the day... It's a 3 hour sound collage.

Problem with the album is the gap in replay value. Garbage Bleed Like Me
A less memorable version of 2.0. That isn't to say it's not memorable - It's All Over But The Crying is the best ballad Garbage has released, and Why Do You Love Me is a "get-pumped" banger of a tune. The closer is epic as always, if not a little drawn out, and the title track is quietly malicious. As a whole, Bleed Like Me is almost run-of-the-mill, but it manages to step just above that, and is a whole lot better than their previous effort.

Lil Yachty Let's Start Here.
Mark this down as most out of left field in at least a year, and probably for the year to come. Lil Yachty and his team produce a...psych rock album. And it's pretty good. As the opening lines of "This isn't the End" reveal themselves to be "An 8 year old girl had a panic attack", it becomes clear that Adam Young will never change. He will always produce cheerful, upbeat, synthpop with cheesy campy storytelling told through overused and cliche lines you'd find in a 14 year old girls poetry notebook. But he's finally starting to do it well.

This is the kind of music I get shit done with. It isn't overflowing with emotion, but it's generally positive attitude and the way it makes itself present is almost remarkable. It gets a little repetitive at times, which ends up being both the high and low points of listening.
Rebecca Black Let Her Burn
Rebecca Black played the fucking long game, huh? This is a good mishmash of current left-of-center pop tropes with a solid team behind it. Tell From The Grass invites you to let its warm tone and stripped style seep into your eardrums like honey. It is a quick but undeniably hypnotic affair. Vocals, when they appear, lead you into their charms as a siren would. They are complimented only by a guitar, of which every note is used to create this small world, perhaps a quiet field on the edge of some great woods. Come sit in the grass for a spell. Relax.

Fall Out Boy Save Rock and Roll
Naming the album "Save Rock & Roll" is seriously pissing me off right now, how dare they name it that? How dare they claim to be Saving Rock and Roll, when they are barely rocking to begin with? On the other hand, this is probably one of the purest and straightforward pop-rock albums I've heard in a few years. An interesting romp through pop-rock, that turned out to be more enjoyable then I'm willing to admit. And if there's any defense for the album title... If Black Veil Brides is considered mainstream rock, then Fall Out Boy is definitely saving it

Something just doesn't sit right with the album to me. Don't get me wrong, a few of the songs are great. But most of the others seem to fall flat. Nothing is really bad, just kind of bland. But the ones that aren't bland end up being fun to listen to, and the final track is definitely the gem here.

There's something about her absurdity that keeps me from hating her. Albums pretty cool when it's not being retarded. There are a few moments on the album where Ke$ha takes a backseat and Kesha actually, y'know, acts like a normal person. Then there are songs inspired by spiritual erotic experiences and what-not, but this is Ke$ha we're talking about.

It seems there's actually too much variety for anyone to really enjoy this. Consistency isn't a word The 2nd Law has in its vocabulary, despite the deceptively named "Prelude", leading one to believe they are at the meat of the album, when really it's the worst part. A relatively slower and calmer affair, from what I've heard of The Black Keys. It has it's moments, but it just doesn't hold up a lot of the time. Weight Of Love and Bullet in the Brain are great though

Walk the Moon What If Nothing
Too long, too much filler, and tracks that fall flat under the guise of experimentation. There are still a handful of saccharine sweet tunes, which is what WTM has always done best in my eyes.
Wavves Hideaway
I think it's very brave of the Wavves landlord to write 5 straight albums about how paranoid and anxious he gets when he's high

With each listen this gets less appealing. The shorter, poppier tracks are done well, but other tracks spend too much time going nowhere in particular.

A lot of the middle is vapid lifeless filler, but her voice eases the pain. The Deluxe Edition offers a much better ending to the album
CHVRCHES Love Is Dead
They're going for anthem sounds here, most of it works well enough. Surprisingly, the singles are the worst tracks on here(My Enemy, Never Say Die).

Garbage Beautiful Garbage
Definitely the most forgettable Garbage album. They sound like a shell of what made up of the first two albums. Other than Silence Is Golden - which comes in and out kicking - and So Like A Rose, which keeps the trend of epic closers, Beautiful Garbage shows little trace of the former and is mostly the latter.

Supersonic noteworthy for inspiring massive Fergie and Eminem moments. Otherwise pretty basic electro
Jan-Dirk Platek The Days We Lost
Melancholy and wistful with a spattering of hope, reminiscent of the past year. Short, simple compositions, some of which are good at invoking the feelings just described, some of which fall flat. 2.5/5

Karmin Hello
Curse my odd addiction to musical duos. Karmins debut EP probably could've been a whole lot better, but for now they've got a decent hip-pop sound on their hands and if they're as smart as their sound is contagious they'll perfect it.

For what it's worth, Femme Fatale actually changed pop music by introducing it to dubstep. This doesn't really do anything new. Body Ache and Passenger are jams, but thats about it. Plus will.i.am helps produce 2/3 of the album. No thank you
Coldplay A Head Full of Dreams
Drake Honestly, Nevermind
this would be a 3/5 if there was no drake. Release the instrumental version please, the producers that carried you on their backs deserve as much

It's not that you're 'problematic', Jimmy. It's that you're past your prime. Also that Wuthering Heights cover is both unholy and captivating...So is the Doobie Brothers cover
Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign Vultures 1
he's been doing the minimalist thing for too long - that was done best on donda. this isn't fun at all outside a couple tracks. busted, bad ye album
Kathy Troccoli Pure Attraction
An album that relies on a wonderful voice, but is unfortunately marred by some production and pretty one-note lyrics (no surprise there). Listen to the hit Everything Changes, and the brass solo on Only Love Can Know.

Expected, but ultimately rather disappointing. I really felt all the escapism thrown at us in ATBAB, but this feels too forced. There are still a couple above-average tracks to keep the party going, but a few too many are repetitive and flatout boring.
Poppy Zig
Rachel Platten Wildfire
Fight Song is a nice single, but everything else is blander than watching paint dry. Sucks because she could've filled the role of 'quirky' pop singer with the stuff on her first album

um its kind of creepy??? I don't know I'm like 10 minutes into it I don't expect anything different. Interesting fact, all that screaming is real mental patients. Sounds like a good idea on paper. Not that good of an idea on anything else
Taylor Swift The Tortured Poets Department
The Beach Boys 15 Big Ones
The Black Eyed Peas The Beginning
The beginning is, ironically, the end. At least I hope it is. I liked The E.N.D. and will continue to defend it, but The Beginning... Catchy beats are few and far between and the lyrics are a joke. Fashion Beats and The Time are the only enjoyable dance tracks, and don't even look for any sort of deep and meaningful lyrics. They tried an electro-ballad on "Whenever" and Fergies auto-tuned lines are probably the high point of the album. This is a bad thing. rCheck:The Time, Light Up The Night, Whenever, Fashion BeatsrSkip: Everything else, but make an effort to avoid Do It Like This and XOXOXO.
