I had forgotten how much I liked to hear new stuff from them... and be a bit surprised.

Amnesia, Lynchmob, Krank. Yeaaaah.

I wish I was less aware of their weaknesses. Or even less aware than I already am.

At least you gave it a shot, Meatplow. I think there are people (a lot of them are on this site) that have almost 'forgotten' how to listen to music just to enjoy it. It's almost as though they have a check list in their head and if a band doesn't hit all the checks they get knocked down, and another negative elements check list that a band must avoid hitting. I try to avoid nitpicking if my overall experience is an enjoyable one. Like this comment: nothing feels cohesive and I don't feel a renewed sense energy at all, more like a lot of flat ideas hiding behind a vibrant production. I think the reason you don't hear any energy is because you're still stuck on the production and hanging on a few things that they tried that you're just not into. I'm just saying that I've read the industrial thread and sometimes you guys dig into albums for the most random things ;)

What about "Spectre" and "Death & Burial Of C.R." for some real surprises?

"What about "Spectre" and "Death & Burial Of C.R." for some real surprises?"

The monotone chorus of Spectre prevents me from being totally enthousiastic towards it yet. But Yeah, the atmosphere of the song is great. I don't know about "death&burial of C.R.",I took it as a joke at first just like the last song on Blitz which I don't like. But, although it is sadly very repetitive, I think there might be much more to it. I found it creepier than the funny piano part seemed to announce. It makes me think of "My monkey" of Marilyn Manson and the spooky kids. And I like "come on go off" too, just too repetitive. Actually, I like nearly everything, I just wish it was more complex from a structural point of view.

I understand what you're getting at, but most industrial isn't exactly known for its complex structures. In fact, for some (including me) it's that repetitive rhythmic delivery that really draws me to the genre. Look at something like Ministry's The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste album. That thing is repetitive as hell, yet is known as one of genre's best. Or Skinny Puppy. Their songs might be musically dense (most of the time), but the overall structure is still usually rhythmic repetition (except Last Rights.

Yeah, I love indutrial bands but I'm totally allergic to repetion so I'm very often frustrated. I can't listen to "Psalm 69" because of that. I must have a problem of elitism, maybe if the structure is complex I can say:"Hey guys, listen, I listen to music that is hard to appreciate" whereas if it is accessible you cannot show of and you're just like everyone else. lol

I think, I like their stuff so much that I want to be blown away from the beginning to the end of the song. I want more. I want to be able to listen to the album a lot of times and still not be able to remember the songs entirely.

I can't reply to the whole thing right now but based on what you just said you should try Acylum- The Enemy (ignoring the 2nd and 3rd tracks) and Argyle Park - Misguided.

Damn this is good shit. KMFDM is back. Not gonna lie, I've enjoyed these cheap WWIII anthems over and over again, but, this is a beastly album.

After a first listen the album's no better than Blitz ( I'm one of the 2-3 people that gave Blitz a 4.5 - no obvious reason, just because it sounds good to me I guess ? -) but there are some great great songs like "Lynchmob", "Take It Like A Man" and "Spectre" (i love the atmospherics in the middle of the song) . But "Death & Burial of C.R" is really WTF? (sounds like you are in an asylum, really unexpected). Hope it grows after a few listens.

This sounds great, haven't heard these guys in a while. Review was great.

You should get an award for this.

Listened to it a few times, it's good old KMFDM but with a refreshed sound.

please tell me you aren't lumping me into this sweeping yet somewhat valid generalisation

I look for surprises in music, I always try and push the envelope with my listening experiences. I don't necessarily like hearing the same thing twice, even if it is done well. I was tantalised by your description of them having made an attempt to evolve, but I don't think it was for the better in this case.

My complaint here is that to me the songs fall flat for the most part, hiding behind otherwise excellent modern sound engineering.

You can't polish a turd, is what i'm trying to say

It's not a turd! That's sweet, creamy chocolate you're looking at. The turd is a lie.

I'm different in that way. I look for more of an overall listening experience than a series of surprises or cool sections. I don't mind bands that don't push the envelope as long as I enjoy the sound they're presenting. I am perfectly fine with hearing the same thing as long as it is something I appreciate. I'm still at a loss as to exactly what you think went wrong compared to their past two decades of samey releases.

well I wasn't necessarily writing it off as a complete turd, just explaining what I was getting at

halfway through one more listen. Krank is a good song. Come On - Go Off is boring, and a perfect example of what I dislike about the album. Rebels In Kontrol is annoying, I don't like this girls voice and feel it might have been a lot better if they didn't bother with her. Lynchmob is okay. I enjoy Take It Like A Man, but this sounds closer to late 90's Australian club music sensation Madison Avenue than KMFDM. Viva La Mort is pretty good. Dystopia sounds like a weaker Linkin Park song.

Not gonna bother listening to the rest but I think a 3 will be the best you'll get out of me, I tried.

Honestly, this does not really go against anything I said. We approach music in a similar way, even if our tastes differ and i'm more inclined to look for strong production qualities and force myself through stuff i'm not comfortable with more often

Guys, one question, someone has bumped my sound off, I don't know what it means. Is it "agree" or "disagree" ?

bumping means to bump it off as in kill it

dates back to an old mafioso term
