I'm really hoping this grows on me. Feels quite lifeless to me so far. While I get that some people be whining like the production is a hate crime, its stopping things from really popping imo

"Feels quite lifeless" it is about moarn, loss and death XD
Prod is pre good and it favors the quieter moments. My only complaint is the passage from Teardrinker to Pushing the Tides.

You can make an album about grief and loss and still pimp slap people with emotional ebbs and flows. I want this to pimp slap me.
Re the transitions around pushing the tides and teardrinker, it is pretty jarring.

No jokes allowed for discussing Mastodon. It must all be highly partisan and standoffish

Can’t wait for Sowing to champion this record in the site’s best of list.

Agreed FPC, p dire lack of pimp slapping on here
In a weird spot where my 3.5 feels too harsh because nothing here is exactly bad and a few songs rlly do scratch that post-cts Mastopop itch, but it also feels kinda generous because jfc how many more albums are they gonna milk this radioprog shit for and can it please be zero

Can’t help but knee jerk a “someone’s not listening” type response to those kind of comments.

I will listen to it later, however I don't have that much experience listening to mastodon. One thing I notice is that the albums always have good artwork

Oh look. BNM spot in motion again. Good times.

Only masto artwork that doesn't fuck is maybe EoS with those goofy lil hands, even that one is aight though
Wish they had done more work with Skinner, the OMRTS cover is like the pure visual embodiment of everything great about modern Mastodon

"credit where due, whoever's slsk rip i got my claws into sounded 10x better than the stream i heard at first. fucking uninstalling spotify"
Yeah, spotify sounds like shit when it comes to bands with a dense sound
I recall hearing Still Life a year and a bit ago and thinking how the mixing was shiter than I remembered - but nope, turned out it was spotify sound quality lol

Kompys I am confused by your statement cause, firstly Mastodon don t hit the radio. Secondly because, if any, the "post-cts Mastopop itch" you say is the closest thing to the "radio prog shit".
Anyway no surprise there. The only surprise here that makes this special for some, is that it manages to pick successfully CtS' vibe, aura and sense of journey (which is also somth not really radio friendly)
