Wow this Spirit bashing here is wild. Spirit is both more accesible and more crazy than Alphaville which is quite a feat. I agree that it doesn't have that coherent vibe and atmosphere of grandeur of Alphaville, but definitely the best of their last three.
This one is pretty nice too upon first spins. I don't really mind it being less jazzy as it is still pretty nuanced.

No they're tougher to pin point, but they absolutely have some death metal to them. Their uniqueness is kinda what makes them a lot more interesting than plenty of other bands that travel the same ol' metal roads (nothing wrong with that either though).
