Insanely hard hitting death metal that actually has substance?

This is the first time I gave a listen to this artist; and I have to say..this band made a first good lasting impression. 'The Killing Gods' was one of the better death metal releases this year. With that being said; this album incorporates a lot of diversity which conventional modern death metal lack.

Staying true to their distinctive sound, but incorporating more melody and thrash elements than before, Misery Index releases another killer set of songs. "The Killing Gods" is a true grower and their most ambitious and diverse album to date (not necessarily the best).

A solid follow up to Heirs to Thievery, doesn't quite have the murderous spitefulness though to my ears. Expert levels of musicianship here and some great hooks are evident in aplenty throughout the album. If it has an advantage over its predecessor, i would say the music is probably a little more interesting in terms of harmonies and the solo work is probably slightly better. Catch them live, they absolutely decimate.

The Calling is a really entertaining song, kind of odd that they made their first five songs
all flow together as if they were one though. I couldn't really even tell that they were
different songs, that's not necessarily a bad thing, I just wish they had make it one long
song instead of splitting it up. Conjuring the Cull picks up right where The Calling left
off, right after the short interlude. Honestly, I kept expecting this album to drop off, but
it never did. Overall, this is a very heavy and very fast album that also manages to be quite
melodic.
