3.4 great | Erwann S. STAFF | September 17th 19 | Sonically this resembles a lot to her last album, and also to a heavy Grouper. However, this is no match in terms of feelz: it is heavy and atmospheric and all, but I was not scared while listening to this album.

4.0 excellent | AcmeApathyAmok | January 25th 19 | Low-fi and underrecorded compared to everything after it which might be a turn off for some, but personally I find it to be this album's charm. This grew on me a lot and I'm now quite partial to it (and Apokalypsis which is my personal fav CW album). Halfsleeper might very well be my all time favorite song of hers (both live & studio).

3.5 great | GillyGoonEtc | July 11th 18 | Chelsea Wolfe's debut doesn't achieve the scope of her later works, but does a marvelous job at setting the tone for her musical trajectory. The album's haunting gothic, at times jangly, folk sound is made all the more compelling by Wolfe's mesmerizing echo-soaked vocals. The production is much more sparse when compared to an album like Abyss, however the instrumentals are much more sparse as well, often featuring only Chelsea's vocals and a guitar, as well as a swirling drone behind her. The Grime is a solid debut album, but shows Wolfe still trying to find solid footing as she asks, "Why does everything gotta be so fucking perfect for everyone but me?"

4.0 excellent | Alabaster Jones | January 24th 16 | After writing an album now known as Mistake In Parting, an unreleased record that Wolfe herself seems to despise, she released her debut proper, which seems to be truly what she was aiming for. What that is exactly is a really calming, yet sometimes strange mixture of lo-fi indie folk, drone, and ethereal wave. She displays excellent vocal prowess throughout the record, and her acoustic guitar playing is quite good as well. There's a nice variety that comes with this record too; from the acoustic, lo-fi stylings of "Cousins Of The Antichrist" and "Halfsleeper", to tracks swamped in drones like "Deep Talks" and "The Why's", to tracks that are set to a definitive beat like "Moses", there's a lot to appreciate here. The quality remains much the same throughout the album, and although I'm partial to "Halfsleeper" and "Benjamin", there's really no bad track to be found here. Truly, a promising and enthralling debut from a great musical mind in Chelsea Wolfe.

3.5 great | Britch2tiger | September 18th 15 | [INDUSTRIAL] I think I found my Beth Gibbons (Portishead) of lo-fi/industrial music. Her voice is alluring yet haunting, and
suits the feel of the album very well as a black glove to a funeral. The downside is that her shorter tracks' lyrics on here
tend to feel repetitive (mildly dull), while her longer tracks (ex: Halfsleeper) really shine amongst this dark album. Another
recommended album for people who enjoy this type of feel would be The Long Forgotten Friend by Dreamend.
