Atari's Picks For Q1: 2013
15Suicidal Tendencies
13

This is one of those albums that's just so damn fun that it's not hard to overlook some of its flaws. Lots of groovy songs on here.
14Alkaline Trio
My Shame Is True

This is one of Alkaline's best releases in years. Definitely pick it up if you're a fan of the band.
13Shai Hulud
Reach Beyond The Sun

excellent return to form by Shai Hulud and one of the most consistent albums of 2013. Chad sounds great as the vocalist.
12 Barrow
Though I'm Alone

I was expecting this to be black metal based on the album cover but I experienced something else entirely. RIYL: Piano's Become The Teeth
11Kvelertak
Meir

Kvelertak through in some punk influence into their sophomore album. The result: A good time.
10Justin Timberlake
The 20/20 Experience

I almost didn't want to include this because all the hype is annoying, but this is a great follow up to futuresexlovesounds. Best Track: Mirrors
9Darkthrone
The Underground Resistance

Not as great as it was made out to be but still a highly melodic release from Darkthrone with some very enjoyable moments.
8 HRVRD
From the Bird's Cage

excellent emo rock. 4/4. RILY: Copeland
7Off With Their Heads
Home

This album is a blast and one of the better punk releases of 2013. RIYL: Dear Landlord, The Menzingers
6Caladan Brood
Echoes of Battle

Almost indescribably beautiful. RIYL: atmospheric black metal
5Silverstein
This is How The Wind Shifts

I've always had a soft spot for Silverstein but this album was even better than I was expecting. They're hardly breaking new ground but it's a highly consistent album. RIYL: A less shitty version of Hawthorne Heights
4Sadistik
Flowers For My Father

I'm not huge on hip-hop but this one really impressed me. Great lyrics and very creative. RIYL: Dark Time Sunshine
3 The Story So Far
What You Don't See

Only time will tell if I like this as much as USAD but after repeated listens it's definitely possible. It's angsty, catchy, and there's no filler. RIYL: Title Fight, New Found Glory
2Wil Wagner
Laika

I had overlooked this until about a week or 2 ago because I didn't realize this was the frontman of The Smith Street Band. It's worth checking out for the lyrics alone and will likely remain one of the best albums of 2013. RIYL: The Smith Street Band
1Senses Fail
Renacer

This is my AOTY so far no contest. It's their heaviest album to date and manages to retain the catchiness the fans have come to expect while turning everything up a notch musically and lyrically. RIYL: Good music
