sniper
03.06.14 | i'll check out cohn and byrd, which i probably should have done before.
yeah that album in particular is one of my favorites by them, it's before they really settled into the sound they would become best known for, and it sounds to me a little bit like a noisier version of the early electric records by miles. highly recommended. |
sniper
03.06.14 | i think what i actually should have said was "there are a lot of these i don't know" rather than "i don't know a lot of these" |

03.07.14 | Freak Out! is jazz? Not at all. It's rock, do-wap, and experimentalism, but not jazz.
Zappa has a ton of great jazz albums though:
Hot Rats (which you listed)
The Grand Wazoo
Waka/Jawaka
Sleep Dirt
Weasels Ripped My Flesh (parts of it) |
SputnikSweetheart
03.10.14 | I don't know a lot of Jazz but can you guys recommend me some artists/bands? I especially like those ensemble that have piano bass and maybe more classical instruments rather than sax or trumpet. Maybe some bands that cross genres with rock and metal too since i'm more of a fan of the latter two. Thanks! |
Friday13th
03.11.14 | @SputnikSweetheart I suggest Inner Mounting Flame by Mahavishnu Orchestra to metalheads and Time Out by The Dave Brubeck Quartet to fans of classical music. |
Muisc4Life26
03.14.14 | @SputnikSweetheart- Start out with Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Sonny Rollins, etc. Also try some vocal jazz like Frank Sinatra, Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan. I think you will also dig jazz fusion'' Weather Report is excellent for starters, Frank Zappa, Return To Forever, The Mahavishnu Orchestra, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Santana and many more. |
