nightbringer 04.24.20	1, 2 and 4 probably aren't my scene but I'm listening to 3 right now and really enjoying it. Finding it more engaging than previous Elder records I've tried.
DoofDoof 04.24.20	The Elder was pre good first listen, as it was a bit softer than some of their past work the vocals stood out a bit too much in the mix maybe? - and the vocals are never amazing on Elder albums. The Ulcerate I'm finding intriguing in that some of the melodic sections hint at greater depths but it's just really dense to get into on the first listen. Guitar tone is as good as it needs to be. Find the drumming and vocals quite standard BM.

I see and felt your point...but vocals are not an issue on Elder for me anymore...and Lore though...its a 4.5-5 album...but only got there like recently...always was kinda underwhelmed at Elder until the beginning of this year, it started to grow, especially Lore... Yap Nightbringer 3 fits you the most...brilliancy of 1 is practically mandatory, but also acquired taste...2 well..I wish luck if you check it ahah but its honestly too good stuff. 4 its also pretty accessible to you.

Pikazilla 04.24.20	Surprised you don't like Katatonia, Johnny, seeing how you like Anathema. I know the two bands aren't even that similar but both have featured subtle lush instrumentation on their recent releases. The production on the singles is some of the best I've heard like ever.

Notrap, just finishing Elder, Katatonia on the way...the point today is starting slow. eheh Elder was a smooth sweet rock listen...I can do the 4 for now...but still figuring if its to stay there or go down...for sure is no Lore.
dedex 04.24.20	Everybody already said it but im not a big fan of Elder's vocals on this one, I prefer when they stay more in the background. Also I think they used some kind of autotuned beforehand and it suited the voice better imo

DDDeftoneDDD 04.24.20	@dedex I kinda agree...like on Lore and Reflections for instance, the core was instrumental and the vocals were kind of occasional idk...that was stronger...instrumental flows smooth af on this one though. Have you done Slift dedex? I was pretty overwhelmed with it this week. Follows the same psystoner path, although much different from the new Elder.

DDDeftoneDDD 04.24.20	no its not...that one its too loose of a hard 4 for me...Lore is the floyd shit + riffs...the perfect balance between old Elder (lol) and new Elder. And man Slift is pretty new as well and we all should give it a listen.

DDDeftoneDDD 04.24.20	I'm finding that Katatonia a rather classy smooth listen tbh Wise choice garas, keep in mind that although pretty good it might turn out as the weakest from them to date (except the debut) the band started as an heavy fuzzy stoner riffing mofo, and started to get proggy and psy rockish.

osmark86 04.24.20	Ulcerate is a band that doesn't really stick very much with me. I can dig them for a bit, but they really sound pretty samey to me. I don't really know why because their style is one that really should be popping off with me (heavy, dissonant, sludgy, deathy...). I don't know, I keep trying and liking what I hear but then I just zone out after a while.

Obviously Ulcerate never disappoints, ever carrying the torch of game changing, bar-setting DM. Didn't know about that new Elder, Lore is a modern prog-rock gem. Elder is a v good band...but not an immediate one...they re amazing at their art though. Just don't give up on them, as I did for a couple of years and Lore, as said, is a prog rock gem. 3 of these are now featured...just put there Black Curse too and we're good! ahah

DDDeftoneDDD 04.27.20	Thing is, they are the other acts...if you dig BI's psych DM, or Spectral Voice's atmospheric doom there's no other way to embrace it, adding to this the weight/ violence lent by Primitive Man's guitarist...this shit is evil m/m/m/ there's a ton nuances and little crazy sounds coming from this that hold my interest on further listens (not to mention the vocals vary more than what we get at first)

I kinda like BI's psych DM because it's just generally "far out man" and Spectral Voice is hella cool because of how slow and cavernous it sounds. they just kinda clicked for me whereas Black Curse kinda didn't. I guess I'll have to check it out again and see if I have a different impression second time around.
