Sl3igHer
09.23.20 | Lyrics that contain timestamps or time. Eg: I did this at 1, I did that at 2, between 3 and 4 I did this. Hate it. There's a Highly Suspect song that does that. Can't recall title though. |
ArsMoriendi
09.23.20 | -The pop punk "I'm in my 20s, but trying to sound 13" whine
-Guttural screaming
-Heavy autotune use
-Tinnitus high pitched beeps
-Artists that create a huge buildup that leads to ABSOLTELY NOWHERE (way too common in music)
|
Pangea
09.23.20 | - songs that end really abruptly (always annoys me + disrupts the flow in an album context)
- two songs that are under the same track (just why???)
- tracks that have a long period of silence before having a hidden track or something (please don't let me either wait or having to skip around timestamps) |
Ryus
09.23.20 | ya hidden tracks suck |
ArsMoriendi
09.23.20 | "- two songs that are under the same track (just why???)"
Yeah sometimes I'll manually separate them |
Snake.
09.23.20 | honestly when bands rehash old lyrics from earlier in the album to use in the closer when the album not even conceptual is really annoying and lazy |
Sl3igHer
09.23.20 | Oh yeah, and when lyrics contain age "stamps". IE: when I was 16, I did this. When I was 25, this happened to me. So lazy and fucking annoying. I'm looking at you, pop trash on the radio. |
JoyfulPlatypus
09.23.20 | - When rap albums need to throw in like 8 skits
- When pop punk bands that have aged past their prime still try to sound young
- When a modern album has multiple songs that fade out, like just write an ending. |
Keyblade
09.23.20 | "The pop punk "I'm in my 20s, but trying to sound 13" whine"
more like 30's lol
basically everything about pop punk, most notably how they all sing with british accents for some reason |
SteakByrnes
09.23.20 | Hidden tracks are so dumb |
Colton
09.23.20 | - songs over 4 minutes
- multiple songs being mashed together into one song
- albums over 50 minutes
- songs with uneven volume, where certain parts are way louder than others and you have to constantly change the volume
- vocals being too quiet
- vocals being too loud
- rappers who can't carry a melody for shit
- whatever Dance Gavin Dance is
- whatever Boards of Canada is
- good albums with shit lyrics because of a complete lack of effort (Bon Iver)
- metal subgenres (just pick like 5 genres and be happy with those, just because an album doesn't sound EXACTLY like any other metal album you know doesn't mean it's a new genre)
- the concept of genres in general
- bad fingerpicking |
Ryus
09.23.20 | genres are incredibly useful for tracking down what kind of music u like even if theyre overly nitpicky and pedantic |

09.23.20 | Couldn't get into Dance Gavin Dance either. Gave it a listen. But funny enough, I can get into other weird sounding bands like At The Drive-In, Sikth, Coheed and Cambria and songs on Fear Before - The Open Mouth.
I'm refering to the vocalists in this context

Agreed with everything apart from guttural screaming. To add to your list, ars:
- palm muting for the fuck's sake of it
- use of strings in modern indie folk
- overreliance on lyrics or vocal delivery while completely ignoring everything else in the sound, which is basically all modern shitty sadboicore a la menzingers, spanish love songs, and whatever else local whiney fucks listen to |

09.23.20 | "- songs over 4 minutes"
That's so limiting, like even pop stars have 5 min songs
|
Ryus
09.23.20 | that one is objectively wrong |
Colton

09.23.20 | - Long silence at the end of songs
- melodic growling
|
botb
09.23.20 | Super high whiny vocals, doing way too much instrumentally when the song doesn’t call for it, the butt rock/grunge “jarl”, out of time/rhythm drums/vocals, dumb misogynist and tough guy metalcore lyrics written by people who weigh 90 pounds, super shiny digital production in heavy music, the boybandification of metalcore post 2000 that turned it into pop metal (a-la rise, Sumerian, etc), there’s probably more but yeah |
ArsMoriendi
09.23.20 | "we have a term for that Ars it's called prog rock"
Edge of Glory by Lady Gaga and Ultra Lightbeam by Kanye West are prog rock? |
botb
09.23.20 | As far as live music goes, when an opener plays for longer than 20 mins or when locals ask to use your gear, so irritating. Really there’s only a handful of bands that can hold my attention for longer than like an hour to and hour and a half, after that live you’re just being silly |
Colton
09.23.20 | You could argue Edge of Glory is sort of a post punk/prog rock fusion but Ultralight Beam is textbook prog rock. Not sure how that proves your point honestly |
rockarollacola
09.23.20 | - The constant switch between retard growls and whiney bitch boy clean vocals in metalcore.
- And the crybaby lyrics in metalcore
- Metalcore in general I guess. Fuck that genre.
