12.29.20 | Great idea for a list. Might have to steal it.
Got some solid albums there too
If I did the same exercise, five of these would be on my list. |
JKing92
12.29.20 | Thanks for the feedback! You are totally free to use this idea.
Out of curiosity though, which five would be on your list? |
SlothcoreSam
12.29.20 | Aenima would be top 3
Downward Spiral, probably be in top 5
Ten, Mellon Collie and Siamese Dream be in there somewhere.
The others would all be close. |

12.29.20 | Some solid picks here |

12.29.20 | SlothcoreSam: Indeed. All great records.

12.29.20 | Needs PJ Harvey |
JKing92
12.29.20 | I could never get into PJ Harvey. She's incredibly talented, don't get me wrong. But I don't know, I guess I could just never get into her style. |
zakalwe
12.29.20 | Nice!
As they were released I had 4-16, 18-19, 22,26 and 27.
9 is still a top 5 of all time for me.
I highly recommend Grant Lee Buffalo - Fuzzy if you haven’t heard it’s an absolute classic. |
JKing92
12.29.20 | I did try out Fuzzy a couple months back, but I never quite "got" it. It wasn't bad at all (I understand why people love it), but it just wasn't my thing, personally.
Thank you for the feedback, though! I always love some acknowledgement! ;-) |

12.29.20 | Substitue F#A# over Deftones NOW |
JKing92
12.29.20 | Sorry, post-rock just does not connect with me at all. I've never been able to get into GY!BE, Sigur Ros, and or any of those other (as I call them) /mu/-approved bands. However, that's just me. |
zakalwe
12.29.20 | Maybe it was one of those that was better at the time? It still holds a lot of sway for me.
14 is probably the one that has fallen by the way-side as I’ve become older. Longview is still an absolute tune though. Blurs Parklife is the juvenile one that still holds its own and is still a joy to listen to every now and again.
Nirvana are still the ones who then and now still rock my world. They definitely had it and always will do.
Fucking 90s man.

12.29.20 | Looking back, I didn't start developing any kind of interest in music until 1994. My 1990-93 selections are really lacking, and in particular 1990 I was barely able to come up with a single album I'd put on a list. |
JKing92
12.29.20 | Understandable. I mean there's plenty of music from that period both on the list (Jane's, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, AIC, etc) and not on the list (Public Enemy, Achtung Baby-era U2, Dr. Dre, and early Snoop Dogg) that I love from that period, but I completely get where you're coming from. |
gschwen
12.29.20 | I should make my own list but heh, here's mine (trying not to repeat artists):
90: TMBG-Flood, Bob Mould-Black Sheets of Rain, The Sundays-Reading Writing Arithmetic
91: Loveless, Ten, Toad the Wet Sprocket-Fear
92: Automatic for the People, 40oz to Freedom, RATM
93: WTC-36 Chambers, Counting Crows, Quicksand
94: Ill Communication, Weezer, Downward Spiral (this was the toughest year; too many)
95: Bjork-Post, Mellon Collie, Jagged Little Pill
96: Aenima, Endtroducing, Fantastic Planet
97: Fat of the Land, Third Eye Blind, Bosstones-Let's Face it
98: Refused, Korn-FTL, SOAD
99: MB-California, The Fragile, DEP-CI |
JKing92
12.29.20 | Solid picks. Indeed, '94 is a very tough year to whittle down, and there are plenty of others from that year that I love, whether we're talking rock/metal (Superunknown, Jar of Flies, first Korn album), rap (Ready to Die, Illmatic), and electronica (Dummy). I ultimately wound up going with Downward Spiral, Dookie, and Purple, since they are all easily within my top twenty favorite albums ever. |

12.29.20 | Nice idea!
90: Naked City, Twin Peaks OST, Heaven or Las Vegas
91: Spiderland, The Low End Theory, Human
92: RATM, The Chronic, Selected Ambient Works
93: Souvlaki, Wu-Tang, In Utero
94: Dummy, Illmatic, Yank Crime (toughest for sure)
95: Liquid Swords, Symbolic, The Infamous
96: Endtroducing, Filosofem, Soundtracks for the Blind (stacked year too)
97: F♯ A♯ ∞, L'école du micro d'argent, Buena Vista Social Club
98: The Shape of Punk to Come, Mezzanine, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill
99: We Are the Romans, American Football, Agaetis Byrjun (didn't include Slow Riot For New Zero Kanada bc it's an EP but it would have been #1) |
JKing92
12.29.20 | Solid list. Love the appearances of stuff outside of the old standby of Ye Olde Guitar Rock. ;-) |
dedex
12.29.20 | gotta admit i love dem riffs m/ |
JKing92
12.29.20 | I do, too. But it's more me throwing shade at those who believe that "real music" does not exist outside of the realm of music that only has guitars, bass, and drums, and who accuse bands like NIN and the Beastie Boys of not being "real" music because they use keyboards/pianos/sampling more or just as often as they use guitars. I've had enough of that argument, and it's made me grow rather sick of bands that only use guitar, bass, and drums over the years (part of why I don't like bands like the Sex Pistols or the Clash, who are often defended with this argument). |
dedex
12.29.20 | you're new aren't ya |

12.29.20 | Yep |

12.29.20 | well, welcome! |
