04.06.25 | Thanks for the recs mates.
@cylinder Wow haven't heard most of those. Yellow Swans are fkn awesome tho. Them and The Goslings helped get me more into noise |
brickhed
04.06.25 | Natural Snow Buildings - Night Coercion Into The Company of Witches
Fantastic ambient noise/drone, and 3 hours of it |
Colliiiin
04.06.25 | @brickhed I completely forgot that project existed. Imma def revisit it. |

04.06.25 | great list, 3-6,16 and 20 are probably my favourites here. since youre looking for recs you can also check out my top ambient albums list that i recently did, hope you can find some things you like |
Sunnyvale
04.06.25 | Tight list! Not the biggest ambient guy but some of these are calling my name |
Avagantamos
04.07.25 | 12 is so good. 15 and 27 are faves as well |
Avagantamos
04.07.25 | I recommend Alva Noto
also Nadja - Touched (original 2003 version) more drone than ambient but it rules |
garas
04.07.25 | Pos'd for having 22 & 23. Winter synth needs more love. |
Sharenge
04.07.25 | hell yeah original version of Touched is awesome, too bad it seems to be quite difficult to find anywhere over the remake... haven't heard the remade version but I find it hard to imagine how it could be superior
always looked at it as a metal/drone metal/post-metal type jawn tho but regardless of how much you think it fits the 'ambient' bill or not worth a check for sure - it's definitely atmospheric |
Demon of the Fall
04.07.25 | Cool list. Some really good stuff here
Personally I don't really see Christoph de babb or Nala as "ambient" even tho there are elements. In fact even Hosianna Mantra, Tomorrow's Harvest and Labradford doesn't really give off those vibes for me. At least not consistently
Perhaps I like way more ambient than I realised. I guess there are "levels". Out of the more consistently serene stuff (i.e. what I had previously considered "ambient"), Gas and Steve Roach work for me also |
JohnnyoftheWell
04.07.25 | both versions of Touched are great tbh, 18 min ver of Incubation/Metamorphosis from the remake goes v hard |
cylinder
04.07.25 | props for 11, 19, and 21 |
Colliiiin
04.07.25 | @demonsofthe Ye for sure, not all of these are pure ambient. Tho they are all adjacent imo.
@Avagantamos Big fan of Nadja. They have many albums that I think are fantastic. |
elliootsmeuth
04.07.25 | So hype to check these out. And Their Refinement of the Decline by Stars of the Lid is a basic pick, but I didn't see it on the list, in your ratings, or rec'd yet and it's tied for my favorite album of all time, so I gotta shout it out. Absolutely phenomenal. Additionally,
Music for Nine Post Cards by Hiroshi Yoshimura (saw you already have him on here, but this is my fave)
Quiet City by Pan-American
S/T by The Dead Texan
When Detail Lost Its Freedom by Brian McBride
Radial by Benoit Pioulard
S/T by A Winged Victory for the Sullen
|
Colliiiin
04.08.25 | @ellioot That Stars of the Lid album is really nice. I've just never finished listening to it for some reason, so haven't rated it. Thanks for the recs dude. I just heard some of A Winged Victory while making this list, gotta finish that too. |
mindleviticus
04.08.25 | Awesome list |
mindleviticus
04.08.25 | Check out Laurel Halo's Atlas - incredible ambient |
Ladron93
04.09.25 | I like 1, 2, 10, 12, 20, 31 and 37. Nice list, though.
That Boards of Canada's album is the one I come back to listen to it a few times than the repeated drumbeat of Music has the Right to Children (1998).
Gas' Pop is my all-time favorite ambient album.

I think I could rec 10 ambient albums, if you haven't heard of these ones. See if these are your thing:
Alva Noto - HYbr:ID III
Loathe - The Things They Believe
Johann Johannsson - Mandy OST
Dedekind Cut - Tehoa
Wolves in the Throne Room - Celestite
Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works Vol. II (1994)
The KLF - Chill Out (1990)
Brian Eno - Apollo (1983)
Tangerine Dream - Sorcerer (1977)
Tangerine Dream - Zeit (1972) |
gabba
04.09.25 | If you dig the dronier side of ambient, check Infinity Machines by Gnod. |
Shattered_Future
04.09.25 | Oooo lots of stuff I need to check out on here.
You need in your life:
KMRU (field recordings/synth, lots of crackles, but relatively calm)
Kali Malone (specifically Does Spring Hide Its Joy w/Stephen O'Malley and Lucy Railton. 2 sine oscillators and a cello making long tones)
Zu - Jhator (long form rituals for a long forgotten deity)
Jerusalem In My Heart - Qalaq (not true ambient, but glitchy and noisy and beautiful all at once)
Nadja's already been mentioned, but other of my favorite Aidan Baker works:
Werl (with Tomas Jarmyr. "Free jazz", which in this context is a wall of guitars with drums over the top)
The Bit (with Simon Goff and Thor Harris. Pulsing waves and violin arpeggios put far out to sea)
Not true ambient, but Tristan Perich and Ensemble 0's "Open Symmetry" is a rhythmic minimalist meisterwork. |
elliootsmeuth
04.10.25 | @colliiiin That SotL album is 2 hours, so it's not easy to get through in one sitting. Definitely doable, but takes a while to truly get into. I would listen to each half sometimes. Not a bad way to get into the album |
mystagogus
04.12.25 | Great list with some classics, props for Hoedh!
A few more:
Craig Padilla - Vostok
Neuronium - synths from early 80s
Shrine - great noisy stuff, especially Celestial
Circular (from Bergen Norway)
Alio Die - Aura Seminalis
Erik Wollo
Vidna Obmana |
