Big Hans' Top 25 Albums Of All Time

OMG so mainstream blah blah blah. These are my 25 favorites, and at least half of them should be universally considered as among the greatest of all time. Order changes with time, except for 1, which will always be 1.
25Led Zeppelin
Led Zeppelin II

Immensely important album. From Whole Lotta Love to Heartbreaker, this album brings it in waves. If I ever get married again, "Thank You" will probably be my jam.
24Bruce Springsteen
Born to Run

Contains a watershed rock anthem (title track), arguably the greatest lyrical song ever (Thunder Road), and a nostalgic epic (Jungleland). If you hate The Boss you hate life. Album is rock perfection.
23Rush
Moving Pictures

Limelight, Red Barchetta, Tom Sawyer = win. Rush's most accesible yet greatest album.
22Tool
Aenima

This one has always blown me away. Hooker with a Penis ftw.
21Alice in Chains
Dirt

A brilliant recording of passion and despair. This is just tortured shit, but genius in its sound.
20Johnny Cash
At Folsom Prison

The MAN at his peak. My dad had this record when I was growing up, used to play it constantly. So I'm cool, because I liked Cash before he died, when all of a sudden everyone and their brother claimed to be a huge fan.
19The Rolling Stones
Exile on Main Street

A rare feat: a double album where every song is strong. There's a reason this is widely considered one of the greatest albums in rock history, yet it curiously is pretty much devoid of any of their big hits. Get it now.
18The Beatles
Rubber Soul

The first record I truely loved, I was like 4. My dad was a huge Beatles fanboy, I was pretty much weaned on this. Best Beatles album if you're going for consistency.
17The Notorious B.I.G.
Ready to Die

Don't care if its a cliche, this dropped in my teenage years and has always been a staple. Arguably the greatest hip hop album ever, objectively speaking of course.
16Pantera
Vulgar Display of Power

Yeah so I have some Redneck in me which is why I like this if you guys don't you're not real men and you're gay. Seriously though, album pummels and rapes you.
15Type O Negative
October Rust

For the lack of a better term, this is purely fucking gorgeous. The ultimate night driving album. An astonishing wall of sound. RIP Pete Steele.
14Metallica
Ride the Lightning

There are moments when I like this just as much as MOP, but Hetfields vocals are slightly worse here and its not as melodic. Still one of the best thrash albums in history.
13Iron Maiden
The Number of the Beast

Hard to argue with arguably the greatest metal song (Hallowed be Thy Name), and two of its most recognizeable classics (Title Track, Run to the Hills). Even better is it has songs like Children of the Damned and Prisoner that are arguably just as good.
12Foo Fighters
The Colour and the Shape

Kind of like "Make Yourself," this is an album I grew up on. Diverse, raw and polished at the same time, catchy, and devoid of weakness. Everlong rules me to this day.
11AC/DC
Highway to Hell

AC/DC haters can smoke my meat rocket. One of the greatest hard rock albums ever created.
10 The Gaslight Anthem
The '59 Sound

It might be somewhat reactionary for such a new album to vault this high this quickly, but I simply cannot get enough of this. My favorite kind of music is infectious Americana anthems, and this is pretty much the modern text book of it.
9Led Zeppelin
Led Zeppelin IV

This is a "favorites" list. Objectively, I think this is the greatest rock album ever made.
82Pac
Me Against the World

This was 2Pac at his best, back when he was part thug, part soul searcher, and before he became both a martyr and a Cali hip hop cliche. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Stunning album.
7Incubus
Make Yourself

This is one of the those albums where every song channels a different memory from a certain period in my life.
6Bob Dylan
Blood on the Tracks

Makes Bon Iver sound like blissful top 40 pop. The lyrics on this are absolutely gut wrentching. A watershed, timeless classic from the master word smith. This is also by far his greatest vocal performance.
5The Hold Steady
Boys and Girls in America

For such an elitist indie rock loving site, its astonishing the Hold Steady don't get more love here. This is a fucking joy ride. Select your anthem and get ready to pump your fists.
4Pearl Jam
Ten

I've bought this album 4 times, because it has been stolen 3 times, its an album I will always own, and actually pay for. "Release" is shaterring, and this blows every other grunge album completely out of the water.
3Metallica
Master of Puppets

Sorry Opeth fappers, this is the best metal record of all time, period.
2Third Eye Blind
Third Eye Blind

This was always in my top ten but has vaulted as of late due to it mirroring my personal life closely, yet again. I could fuck the song "Motorcycle Drive By," and everything else is essential as well.
1 Guns N' Roses
Appetite For Destruction

There will never be another album that defines a genre as well as this defines "Hard Rock." There isn't a weak second on here, and after the 8,000th listen it hasn't grown stale. Album has it all.
