02.08.11 | Decided to only pick one album per band, though some like Edge of Sanity, At the Gates, and Insomnium have more than one I'd normally throw up there. Honorable mentions to Gates of Ishtar for "At Dusk and Forever", and Arch Enemy for "Stigmata" and "Black Earth". |
FishTV
02.08.11 | Whoracle would be my favourite other than that this is a great list |
ev0ken
02.08.11 | Defiant Imagination is also my favorite Quo Vadis album as well.
11 is great i had been searching for it a few a years ago and was able to pick it up then.
lots of good cds on this list |
TheSpirit
02.08.11 | I really didn't like Heartwork at first but I think it's great now but still pretty overrated. I would listen to any other Carcass album over it. |
Itwasthatwas
02.08.11 | Necroticsm and Symphonies of Sickness are maybe better than Heartwork, but they're a different genre anyways. I prefer Heartwork to Reek of Putrefaction and Swansong |
Wolfhorde
02.08.11 | Please don't insult Quo Vadis. They're not Melodeath. |
Itwasthatwas
02.08.11 | yeah they are, they just play a thrashy variant of melodeath |
Dryden

02.08.11 | hey crysis, can you rec any other 90s melodeath like hypocrite? |
qwe3
02.08.11 | but seriously carcass is so gay |
Crysis
02.08.11 | I haven't heard much else that can be seriously considered melodeath that sounds like Hypocrite, simply because Hypocrite had such an OSDM vibe along with it. You could try Entrails' "Tales Form The Morgue" which isn't from the 1990's but is more in the vein of death metal with melodies than melodic death metal. |
Itwasthatwas
02.08.11 | @qwe: nah carcass rules
@crysis: fair enough, that's the problem I've had looking for more stuff like that. seems they're a pretty unique band. I'll check out Entrails |
Observer
02.08.11 | a lot of these albums are all the melodeath most people would need and/or prefer.
great list |
Observer
02.08.11 | true |

Hyperion1001
02.08.11 | Melodeath is only good when the bands remember that melodeath came from death metal, and learn not to rely 100% on fruity melody wank guitar. |
DeafMetal
02.09.11 | Fruity. |
Gorification
02.09.11 | i think arghoslent are punk influenced, i dont see them as melodeath. |

yeah I would choose one that is actually melodeath

Hawks
02.09.11 | Lots of great stuff here. The Gallery is still my favorite Dark Tranquillity and I would choose Nocturnal for The Black Dahlia Murder and Silent Waters for Amorphis (seeing as how that's my favorite album ever). Still a great list. Props for putting Arghoslent, I completely agree with what you said. |
wexenhex
02.09.11 | early Dark Tranquillity wasnt amateur or sloppy sounding at all! in fact, The Gallery might be one of the best melodeath albums of all time. also Eucharist wasnt Gothenburg inspired...they came out at the same time as Dark Tranquillity. they more or less helped start Gothenburg. |
DeafMetal
02.09.11 | Hey guys Arghoslent are punk, did you get the memo? |
sifFlammable

02.09.11 | Some good stuff here. Still don't like Whoreacle. |
Itwasthatwas
02.09.11 | I feel the same way Scoot, I haven't heard a good new melodeath release in a long time. |
