09.26.11 | I honestly have no idea if the remasters themselves will be worth it. In my eyes, only the unreleased material is worth giving a shit about. That being said, the record label will probably release another half dozen discs of more "unreleased material" in the next five months. |

09.30.11 | I officially own four of the remasters: Meddle, The Dark Side Of The Moon Experience Edition (2 CDs), Animals, and The Division Bell. I've listened to them all and even did a little bit of A/B-ing and the new versions are excellent!
Anyone familiar with the sound of the previously-issued Beatles CDs versus the 2009 remasters? That's how these sound in comparison: they're clearer and more "dimensional". The production on the albums from TDSOTM on never really sounded dated, but they sound a little more up-to-date now. I was actually hesitant to listen to them fearing that they'd be loud and perhaps over-compressed. Nothing of the sort here. I'm quite glad the music still has that spacious feel. James Guthrie and Joel Plante did a fantastic job with these four, and I'm sure each of you will agree when you listen to them.
Sure, you may be listening to the versions you own and say, "Why should I get any of the remasters? The ones I have sound fine to me." After all, PF albums were always on the cutting edge of recording and production, and, yeah...the CDs issued before these remasters did sound pretty friggin' good. However, when you listen to these new ones, you'll be satisfied with your new purchases. TDSOTM and A both remind me of listening to the vinyl as a child with my brothers (or without them, when they weren't home), and for me, that was enough to make me want to get the rest of them. |
