05.04.20 | I’m still a Destiny 2 maniac. All my time goes to that game. Sucks right now though. This season has been pretty lackluster. Debating trying the GM NFs. No point.
Been off and on with Borderlands 3. Currently running TVHM story line on M3. Cartel event seems interesting.
Black Mesa is pretty good. Obviously the visual enhancements are great.
I started The Outer Worlds but I have become bored. Disappointing really. |

05.04.20 | In the past week I've played Super Hot, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, Alien Isolation, and FF6 (for the first time).
I completed all of them with the exception of FF6. Holy shit that game is long! I'm understanding the hype behind it though, I can see how revolutionary this game may have been back in the SNES days. Thinking you reached the end of the game only to find out it was the halfway point in a really dramatic way is insane.
As for the paste few months, one of the most notable games I played was Disco Elysium. Hands down probably my game of the year, the writing is spectacular and it makes some subtle changes to the CRPG format that I think we'll be seeing more of in the future. Particularly less emphasis on traditional combat, more emphasis on the writing, and implementing a D&D style method of combat where you say what you're going to do and then seeing what happens. |

05.04.20 | "Its remastered but not massively. They've added features such as onstantly filling limit breaks with r3, speed up the game by 3x with l3, and no random encounters by clicking both"
only thing i would want is the speed up option. i just dont like that they messed with the coloring and they gave Cloud these big dumb looking eyes and a mouth. and they also fucked with the music during an important scene. i guess im sorta purist when it comes to this game, i want it to stay how i remember it. |

05.05.20 | Just beat ng+ on dark souls remaster for switch and nothing really tops souls ever
Also been playing:
Hyper light drifter, which now sits alongside katana zero as one of the best indie games I've ever played
Animal crossing new horizons which is a great waste of life for me and the girlfriend
Mario rabbids which is... ok
The Messenger which doesnt live up to the hype and I've grown bored of in the second half. Writing in this game straddles the fence between comically profound and utterly cringe inducing.
Octopath traveler which was a lot of fun if you skip all the cut scenes but becomes way too grindy and tedious way too fast and I'm over it.
Astral chain which was good.
Doom 3 cuz it was like a dollar but I stopped playing eventually because it is repetitive as fuck and nothing new ever happens |

05.05.20 | Katana Zero is crazy good |
sonictheplumber
05.05.20 | just oblivion |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.05.20 | Katana Zero is probably a bit easier, shorter, and more narrative oriented
Hyper Light Drifter is more cryptic, gameplay oriented, and open world feeling.
Both are massively atmospheric and similarly trippy and both have the two most immersive sound design/soundtracks of any indie game ive ever played. So you can't really go wrong.
I'd say just get whichever is on sale first. Hyper light drifter might still be on sale right now depending on what you play it on |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.05.20 | On the topic if anyone has any recommendations for games like katana zero, hyper light drifter, and hotline miami I cant get enough of that shit...

05.05.20 | Lorde it's a long shot but try Bro Force, Party Hard, Crawl, and there's this ninja game from 2020 but I forget what it's called. They all have pixel graphics and action |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.05.20 | Yeah katana is definitely not 'easy' but just the rapid fire pacing for deaths and runs makes you get on the learning curve pretty quick and it's only a matter of attempts before you either luck out or get good
Hyper light drifter was a bit unforgiving in forcing you to learn your enemies moves and tells so if you arent in to that it would probably be frustrating
Its also non linear and there is exactly zero text dialogue so you really have to figure shit out for yourself and carve your own route |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.05.20 | @bloc I've got broforce actually and it's fun and I'll check the rest but I wouldn't equate broforce to the aforementioned much, at least in terms of what I love about those |

05.05.20 | In regards to Okami, I think Kamiya just wanted to make his own Zelda-style adventure game, and I have no idea as to what Nintendo's internal response was. Maybe they were inspired by Okami for Wind Waker. I hope so. It'd be nice to think Kamiya's work was ripped off by a dev as big as Nintendo. He deserves the recognition. Plus it means we get more amazing games. If the whole industry could make Wind Waker-tier ripoffs of all Kamiya's games then I'd be a happy man. |

05.05.20 | The art resemblance between okami and wind waker (slash spirit tracks and phantom train or whatever the fuck) is uncanny, its just okami withou the super apparent sumi e lines. The character designs... their noses... lol.
With twilight princess it's not the art but the fact that you basically fuckin turn into amaterasu and run around hyrule purging darkness from the land which is ~exactly~ like the entire premise of okami.
Maybe coincidental, maybe inspiration, either way it's hilarious |

05.07.20 | I agree Nioh is too long. I ran into the same issue where I actually looked up how many regions there were, I was on 3 or 4 ay the time, and the internet was like "keep playing the 2nd half of the game is worth it". They were right! But it definitely was too long for my taste. |

05.07.20 | It does sound like a great game, would I still like it if I'm not at all into crime and detectives? |
JohnnyoftheWell
05.07.20 | Nioh is such a go hard or go home game (designed 100% around the NG+s imo) that it being long makes a fair amount of sense |
Gallantin
05.07.20 | I think I'd be more willing to sink time into Nioh if it didn't have the loot system it does, but I mean the loot system is half the reason people play NG+ on it anyway so I just have to say it's not for me. Which is a shame because I truly to love the combat and level design. It's superb.
@Egarran: man idk if you'd like it if yoh don't like crime and detective stuff but like...it's fucking brilliant. I think even if it's not your speed, it WILL draw you in |

05.07.20 | lol I don't F with NG+ ya nerds. I respect the dedication, but too many new games to check out. one and done for me. Nioh in the end, through one playthrough, was definitely great. I thought the loot system was fine, I only ever played with a sword and I never used the blacksmith once. Never needed to, and I used sloth for half the game, so whatever flame me boys, I can take it. |
Gallantin
05.07.20 | I like NG+ in certain games. |

05.07.20 | "Oh also, the resident evil 2 remake is pretty sweet but I'm getting super tired of getting chased around by the tyrant in leon's 2nd run"

i tried out the demo and was like, how the fuck did 10 year old me beat this game lmao. speaking of horror game, i purchased alien:isolation for $2 the other day, haven't given it a run yet though
only game i really have the heart to play these days is still post scriptum |
Gallantin
05.07.20 | Nemesis is way less scary/bothersome than Mr. X in the RE3 remake. He shows up for a few scripted setpieces and boss fights but otherwise doesn't impede on the main exploration. |
DungeonBoy
05.07.20 | that's good to know! I kinda loved, but also kinda really hated Mr. X. It was a constant rush, but I was so happy when it was over. They did it well, but also I hate it. |
Gallantin
05.07.20 | I personally prefer how RE2R did it, but I understand why people didn't like it. RE3R is great, but too fast paced for me. I liked the slow exploration of one big dungeon for RE2R, whereas RE3R is mostly comprised of many much, much smaller areas to explore before funnelling you through a few setpieces. It just feels very fast. |
Gallantin
05.07.20 | Although RE3R has a lot of great post-game options. Two additional difficulty modes and a plethora of purchasable items to change the gameplay. Fun game. |
DungeonBoy
05.07.20 | sweet, i'm gonna pick it up at some point. Currently playing Hyper Light Drifter, and have the RE1 remake on que after that. Pretty stoked about it since I never beat the original on the PS1, and it was on sale on the PSN. it looks really cool, but honestly I don't know if it's just the original reskinned, or if they added new content or what. |
JokineAugustus
05.07.20 | It's the gamecube remake, they just updated it for present consoles. I think there are a few costumes that are new too. |
evilford
05.07.20 | Re2r is sweet I'm just tired of running from tyrant in 2nd run
And yeah mgs is my favorite series of all time so I'm sure I'll suck it up and keep playing. But just know I dont like supernatural overtones in my tactical espionage operations games! |
Gallantin
05.08.20 | If it helps, the amount of missions without weird supernatural stuff outweighs the amount of missions with them.
That said most of my fave missions in that game are the ones that have spooky supernatural bullshit. |

05.08.20 | Been playing the Soulsborne games almost exclusively this year. Got the platinum for Bloodborne a few weeks ago (my first plat ever, and it never felt like a chore) and am working on DS1+3 now. Occasionally I'll dip into DS2, and it's not like it's horrible . . . just that I'd rather spend what little time I have for gaming playing anything else? Once I submit grades for my students early next week I'll have a lot more time for games. How badly do I need to play Sekiro? Is it worth the cash? |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.08.20 | To weigh in on ng+ I don't care about it on any games other than soulsborne. But in spulsborne I almost prefer it to ng, they are just that good |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.08.20 | Loved both those games as a kid so much |
Gallantin
05.08.20 | Sekiro is a very good action game worth playing. It has a lot of issues but what it does well outweighs those issues. I think about it often. I need to go back and platinum it.
I love NG+ in the Soulsborne games, but they don't do it too well, bc nearly all of them don't mix up enemy or item placements. Sekiro fails the hardest at it because all items become redundant on a second playthru. The games are just fun to play so NG+ works regardless of the problems it has.
I love NG+ in the RE games, in games like Bayonetta, Devil May Cry, etc. where the first playthru is more like a tutorial and the following playthrus are where the real meat of the content is there.
I wish more JRPGs had NG+ too. Playing through FF7 and 8 recently, I would kill to play these games on NG+, especially when 8 has a spell that you can only ever get from the final boss. It'd be great to go through the game and actually be able to use and junction that spell. |
Gallantin
05.08.20 | On that note, actually, Final Fantasy 7 Remake's NG+ is fantastic, with added content, skippable setpieces, neutered item use in hard mode, and modified enemies in hard mode. Really greag MG+ settings in that game. |
osmark86
05.08.20 | @DungeonBoy: Hyper Light Drifter is a really cool game, played it local coop with my brother over parsec. haven't finished it but think I might do a solitary run of it in the near future. quite possibly one of the prettiest games I've seen and I like the mysterious vibe it has. |

05.08.20 | has anyone played Celeste? one of the most satisfying (and frustrating) gaming experiences I've had in a very long time. hadn't played hard platformers in a long time prior to giving this a go and holy damn I had forgotten how rewarding it feels to pull off a super precise sequence of timed moves after the 20th attempt basically holding your breath. the resulting huzzah of successful completion is such a relief. |

05.08.20 | grind it pots, it's worth it |
DungeonBoy
05.08.20 | Hell yeah osmark, dude HLD is stunning, i've beaten the East, and North bosses collected some sweet powerups, and just loving the mystery vibe (and zero dialogue) like you said. It's like the perfect indie game. I found a bunch of monoliths and was like wtf are these, and then I found a room showing all of the monoliths i've discovered on a giant wall (like hollow knight's grub fellas) and was like, okay sweet, so collect all these for something. The game doesn't tell you sh*t and i love that.
Celeste was incredible, a bit overhyped, but an excellent platformer if you're into that supermeatboy thing, with a more touching narrative and soundtrack and less exploding meat. |
osmark86
05.08.20 | yeah I've only gone east and south myself. I agree though, you just have to discover what everything is all about in that game and play patient. really dig that about it. oh and how bloody gorgeous it looks and plays.
Celeste lives up to all the hype imo. game was an absolute blast. |
Gallantin
05.08.20 | As far as I know, FF7 is one of the only multi-disc PS4 games, but it's worth it, because it runs so smoothly without any performance hitches, which is rare for PS4 games that look that good and are that visually/mechanically intensive. The game does suffer texture issues, but because performance is so perfect, it's a non-issue.
There are other PS4 games that are bordering on, or over, 100gb, but I haven't seen any others with a sole install disc. But in general most PS4 games tend to be somewhere between 20-50gb. |

05.08.20 | Modern Warfare is like 200 gigs now. I think black ops 4 was up there too. Red dead 2 is like half that and I have no idea why the CoD games are so bloated. |
Gallantin
05.08.20 | I was real cosy and just ate a big dinner, getting up to go check my copy of Red Dead did not seem worth it at the time |
Gallantin
05.08.20 | I have no idea either why those CoD games are so big. The size was the main reason I never bought the new Modern Warfare even though I was craving an FPS at the time. Just didn't seem worth it. Not even interested in it now.
I mean if bloody Monster Hunter World and its expansion and all its updates aren't that big, CoD has no excuse. It's wild. |

Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.08.20 | I havent played a call of duty game since like 2009 or earlier I cant believe they are still pumping those out. Have they done anything to the freshen up the formula or is it still basically the same shit every time alternating between developers so that they can have one every year but only one developer makes any decent entries? |

05.08.20 | Still remember him describing them as dodging until you get behind the enemies and then poke them in the butt. |
ConcubinaryCode
05.08.20 | 2009 is probably the last truly great cod. They tinkered with pseudo futuristic stuff but people got super pissed at that so it's basically regressed to where it was a decade ago again. There's been a few mechanical changes but it plays basically the same. It's also just ripped off mechanics from the better games around the time like the jetpack and wall running from Titan fall and heroes with kits like overwatch. |
Gallantin
05.08.20 | As far as I know it's basically the same shit. I haven't played one since 2011 though so I can't confirm. But when MW was announced I was like, yknow, it's been a while since I played a brown military shooter. But yeah fuck that file size. I got my FPS kick from Apex Legends last year anyway.
Doom Eternal looks great, but I feel like games like Doom scratch a different itch than most other modern FPS games. |
Anthracks
05.08.20 | i have so many games in my backlog (100+) but every time I turn on a console I just play apex legends
modern warfare is absolute trash. I loved black ops 2 and 3. 4 seems pretty great too but I haven't played it much. i'm in the minority in that I vastly prefer the mechanics in the treyarch games, and the map design is infinitely better than IW / sledgehammer maps which are designed to be way too campy |

ConcubinaryCode
05.08.20 | I think people actually prefer treyaech games now. Sledgehammer was too inconsistent so they got merged back into the other two teams. This year went to treyarch which supposedly fucked them over cuz they lost an extra year of dev time essentially. |
Anthracks
05.08.20 | far cry has always just felt like elder scrolls as a shooter to me. not a fan. the mechanics seem really awkward and clunky.

probably ds1 tbh. although according to raging mouth-breathers it's apparently a mortal sin to have enjoyed ds2 in any capacity whatsoever and to not just hyperbolically loosen a rain of shits on it every time it's mentioned, i do love both that (especially scholar of the first sin) and ds3 pretty equally as well but i'd go with ds1 if i had to pic. there are aspects of each that i like better than the others but ds1 is just the most memorable.
loved demon souls and bloodborne as well but they are the only two that i've played that i haven't beaten multiple times and with bloodborne i went in blind and it didn't pander to my pre-existing playstyle at all so i ended up with a regrettable build and had a reaaaal rough time with some of it because of that. also found the level design to be the most overtly homogenous of the bunch (ds3 rivals it in that regard, but gets better in the second half).

05.09.20 | Before any of you flame me, yes, I understand Riot is flawed and the community is frequently toxic and blah blah blah, BUT, during the quarantine I've come to love League of Legends. As a competitive online game, it may be more accessible than Dota 2 but it combines incredible depth with simplicity so well regardless, and I just think LoL's take on MOBAs is one of the best to this day. I may be a bit biased because this game has been my introduction to MOBAs, but hey, still great, from the characters to the lore to the gameplay to the learning curve and etc, etc...
Also, something amazing happened. I finished DK Country on SNES. With save states. Shut up. |

Krpa
05.09.20 | Also, on that Far Cry subject, I feel like it's a typical Ubisoft rehashed formula with awkward controls and movement compared to other shooters. I mean, moving your character is really stiff, at least on a controller. However, I really liked 2 and 5, 3 a little less and I couldn't stand 4. I mean, I don't hate them but I'm guessing they need to change it up a bit for the next sequel cause this formula is getting stale. |

Minushuman24
05.09.20 | Souls 1 for sure. Playing bloodborne and Souls back to back though is rough, so be prepared for that.

05.09.20 | Well in the original Japanese Barrett is actually a lot less racialised in his language, but the localisers really did a number on him and made his text all "ghetto" or whatever white dudes think black guys sound like

Inoculaeted
05.09.20 | That's exactly the way to do it Deathconscious. Also, the current trend of games holding your hand and babying you through it rears it's head a bit. Just be prepared for a more linear experience than you remember from the original. I know that sounds like a pretty damning thing to say about it but it really is worth experiencing despite that imo. |

05.09.20 | Should I play deadly premonition? It's on sale |
Deathconscious
05.09.20 | yeah i was disappointed to hear it would be so linear, i was really wanting to be set loose in Midgar, that would have been so cool. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.09.20 | @demon I'm gonna have to disagree with what everyone else rec'd in regards to souls. Dont start with ds1 if you are worried about it being too hard. People are going to be chapped about this but start with ds2 (scholar edition). It's what I did and it was a great intro to the franchise and since a lot of people underrate it I feel that it's a good way to get the most enjoyment out of the series as everything you play from there will be either as good or better. But the most important reason is that the main game is a lot easier than 1 and 3 for the most part. The dlc stuff is pretty balls to the wall but it always is in those games. But there are some mechanics added in 2 and 3 that just objectively make it so you are going to have a less frustrating introduction. I did 2, 1, 3 and then demon souls I believe. I'd rec either doing that or 2, 3, 1 and then demon |
Gallantin
05.09.20 | The original FF7 is more linear than the remake |
Inoculaeted
05.09.20 | You may be technically correct Gallantin, but 1997 was a long time ago. Perception of linearity in video games have changed for me quite a bit since I was a teenager. GTA 3 and Skyrim happened since then. I might agree with you if I were to play OG FF7 today, but that is a cherished memory I'd prefer not to fuck with. |
Gallantin
05.09.20 | I played FF7 for the first time two months ago.
It's an extremely linear game, the Midgar section especially. |
Gyromania
05.09.20 | Just can't get into FF games. Most overhyped franchise of all time imo. That said, I haven't tried the remake of 7 yet.
Regarding what pots said about ds2.... I actually found this far less accessible than 1. 2 has a very wonky hitbox system and is much lrss forgiving than ds1 imo. I do agree that ds2 is underrated, but 1 and 3 are far superior to it imo |
Gallantin
05.09.20 | I mean each FF game is so completely different that judging it as a franchise seems a bit weird. There are FF games I love and FF games I hate. They're connected by name only.
And yeah idk what pots is saying, DS2 is by far the least accessible and most unnecessarily punishing souls game. The half health, the fucking agility mechanics, the constant mobs and the design flaws in the world that create nuisances and generally just dont understand the point of geometry and shortcuts and shit. The even more deliberately obtuse covenant system.
DS2 is the devs looking at all the "git gud" marketing for DS1 working and saying "hey lets make a game that needs you to git gudder".
DS2 is a fundamentally flawed game that misinterprets everything that makes the series special and worth playing. I'm glad some people like it, but starting with DS1 is by no means the wrong choice. I started with DS1 on release day and it was a magical experience that hasn't left my mind for a decade.
Always start with DS1. I'd even recommend starting with DeS if a PS3 was available. DeS has the half health mechanic as well, but it's not as bad in DeS because the rest of the game's mechanics aren't actively shitting on you like DS2's are. |
ConcubinaryCode
05.09.20 | I always assume when people say they hate linear ff games they mean they don't have the option of backtracking to certain areas even though there's rarely a reason to outside a few exceptions. The games always want you to go a set path and unfold in a set way. I get wanting to dick around the map but it never bothered me when you can't do it 100% of the time. Sometimes your ass needs to have a finger pointing you in the direction otherwise shit just waits for eternity until you stop racing chocobos at gold saucer. |

the one handed roll + r1 and the dash + r1 are godly as is the dual wield r2
i also love the smelter demon greatsword that thing is hilarious. there are a lot of pretty insane move sets in ds3 like i think the abyss watchers sword maybe where you sweep around on the ground |
Lord(e)Po)))ts

05.09.20 | You like Sekiro, Pots? |
Gyromania
05.09.20 | idk pots, snox is spot on with what he said regarding geometry in dark souls 2, and especially with the density of gank squads. i mean look at the run to the executioner's chariot, that is some fucking hot garbage. impossible to run to since it takes an hour to pass through the fog wall, and fighting your way through is tedious as hell because their damage output is insane and fighting them ends up being a huge chore. there are so many instances of this where the game just throws a shit ton of enemies at you in an unfair space. i have way more issues with the map now than i used to. how tf does earthen peak transition into the iron keep? how come far off areas don't make geographical sense (heide's tower of flame when looking from firelink). i will always defend ds2 as a great game, but ds1 is better in every category and far less punishing. ds2 has so much artificial difficulty in it it's insane - especially in the dlc. i mean, have you fought the king's pets? the real boss battle is the journey to them. 20 minutes in winter fuckland just to get ganked by a poorly designed boss fight. a reskin of smelter demon in another terrible run up to the boss? yay. and who can forget the infamous gank squad in the first dlc
huge props for your boss list though. those are all in my top 15 for sure (maybe minus gwyn... i mean, awesome lore, but the boss itself is kind of w.e). gaping dragon doesn't get enough credit. i find the fight really easy but it's just such a cool design and its moveset is sweet |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.09.20 | worst boss in souls franchise has got to be that fucking librarian dude in i think demon souls
i know a lot of people give that title to bed of chaos but there really are a good handful of remarkably awful boss fights in those games that rival it |
Minushuman24
05.09.20 | It was mentioned early, but yea SMT3: Nocturne Rules.
All of the big four boss fights from Souls 1 are pretty trash
Best soulsbourne fight for me is probably O&S or maybe Gehrman |
ConcubinaryCode
05.09.20 | Pinwheel was just a jest. Ds1 has a decent few joke bosses. I gotta agree Ds2 probably isn't the best to start with but I'm bias because Ds1 was my first and the world is just so satisfying to get around. It's like a resident evil mansion or a metroid map. Always pick the master key too cuz I don't fuck with capybaras demon or gaping dragon. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.09.20 | "i mean look at the run to the executioner's chariot, that is some fucking hot garbage. impossible to run to"
i run to it every time no problem.
" will always defend ds2 as a great game, but ds1 is better in every category and far less punishing"
already said ds1 is my favourite thats not the topic. and whether or not its less punishing is debatable, ds1 has some of the most punishing bosses and painful commutes in the series. i also already said ds2 dlc is much harder than the base game. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.09.20 | ds2 base game is the easiest by far yall just suck at it i guess |
zakalwe

pots: i've tried to run that several times and i always get hit at the fog gate lol. i mean, they're pretty damn quick to follow you and their whips reach far. as for ds1, i think the only boss that is flat out complete bs is bed of chaos. otherwise most are easy. i tend to do the black knight halberd run though so maybe that has something to do with it |
Minushuman24
05.09.20 | DS2 blows, but to be fair I never beat it. I might do that soon. Hm. |

Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.09.20 | people are just harsh on ds2 in general. ds1 map is the best yeah but ds2 map is easily comparable to ds3. the first half of ds3 is imo the worst most monotonous series of areas of all three.
ds3 has the highest ratio of quality bosses... ds1 has some of the best bosses and some of the absolute worst |

05.09.20 | agreed hard that ds3 has the highest ratio of quality bosses. can't think of many instances in ds3 where i got overly pissed off at a boss or called something poorly designed. i do think midir is tedious as shit to fight, but i did beat him. |
zakalwe
05.09.20 | Sekiro was disappointing. Made it to the final boss twice attempted it about 4 times on both occasions and just didn’t have the gumption or will for it. I just couldn’t be arsed, the game had sucked all enjoyment from me. |

05.09.20 | "context: ds2 is an 8.5/10, ds 1 is a 10/10, ds 3 is a 9.5/10"

i thought kalameet was a tad TOO easy which i almost hate myself for saying considering how awful some of the other dragons are. |
Shadowmire
05.09.20 | i like sekiro less than every actual soulsborne game but i still thought it was pretty good |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.09.20 | ive heard sekiro is actually one of the easiest/most forgiving souls games if you actually take a minute to properly learn the mechanics |
ConcubinaryCode
05.09.20 | If you like parrying in souls games sekiro should be a cakewalk for you. You can stealth kill like 90% of mobs too. It's decent but a lot more streamlined for a souls game. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.09.20 | i can't parry for shit and it made my bloodborne run a fucking nightmare because i didn't realize how crucial gun parrying is and levelled up my fucking watering can instead |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.09.20 | it also made fighting other hunters especially gruelling |
Shadowmire
05.09.20 | i am also bad at parrying but the timing window is much more loose in sekiro because the entire game revolves around it |
ConcubinaryCode
05.09.20 | You do have to learn certain techniques depending on the enemy though. Those Lance welding dudes took me a while to get down exactly. Oof on going gun less in bloodborne. That's impressive you beat it with minimal uses. Those hunter fights were some of the best fights otherwise. It helps you just have to kill them once too lol |
zakalwe
05.09.20 | I’m useless at partying as well. Bloodborne was incredibly forgiving though and is actually master-able fairly early in the game. Even sekiros parrying technique thing is relatively easy compared to DS1. I’m still shit at it and have played that game for about 1000hrs all in all. |

05.09.20 | i've got the rona so i've been doing nothing but sleeping and playing video games, currently playing Doom Eternal, Pokemon Shield, Streets of Rage 4 and so much Rocket League. Currently deliberating between Control, Divinity 2 and Darksiders Genesis |

05.10.20 | Streets of Rage 4 is a bit of a mixed bag but very fun. Art style, soundtrack and enemy design is phenomenal. Just wish there were more characters and combos to pick from.
Appreciate y'all as well thx |

05.10.20 | Sekiro rivals DS3 for best boss quality ratio imo. Hardest final boss by far too. |

05.10.20 | Beat A Plague Tale. Solid story game with some good puzzles with the rats. |
evilford
05.10.20 | Sorry slex, get better man.
If streets of rage 4 is on ps4 I've definitely gotta consider gettin that.
Snox I've played thru mission 6 of mgs5. Your advice to suck it up and take the bad with the good was great. Game fucking rules |

05.10.20 | And this realization comes directly after a goofy battle with the skulls |
Anthracks
05.10.20 | I didn't enjoy an mgs game until mgs5 - well snake eater was pretty good up until the sniper battle |
Anthracks
05.10.20 | control was good. a bit overhyped but still like an 8/10 game. the story is weird in a pretty dumb way imo - as someone who appreciates weird - but it's still fun. darksiders genesis is also surprisingly good. i'm playing it split screen co-op and aside from the blurring it's a good time in 1-2 hour bursts. |
Slex
05.10.20 | Yeah I'm leaning towards Genesis for my Switch, seems like it'd be a fun pick up and play kind of game |
ConcubinaryCode
05.10.20 | I feel people always hype up Remedy games and I always end up checking them out and being a little let down. They're definitely solid but the games always have a lot of baggage. Quantum Break was pretty fun to play though
Always wanted to play MGS games but by got is that control scheme bizaare |
Anthracks
05.10.20 | the core gameplay in control is very solid. the shooting feels fantastic - unlike in alan wake. it's surprisingly challenging for a story driven third person shooter, too. it isn't hard, but you cant walk through the game |
Gallantin
05.10.20 | Whaaaat? The sniper battle in MGS3 is the best boss fight in gaming history
@ford ayyyy glad to hear it. People are too eager to shit on MGSV but it's one of my favourite games ever, I'm never not in the mood to play it
Control is great. The combat is awful and the game is so poorly optimised for consoles that it was a slog to get through large encounters. But that story is fantastic, I love exploring the world, finding all the data files is wonderful because every single one is written fantastically and they're always interesting. I just love that X-Files shit. It really hits me good.
My Souls ratings: Dark Souls - 5/5, Bloodborne - 4.5/5, Demon's Souls - 4.25/5, Sekiro - 4.1/5, Dark Souls 3 - 3.2/5, Dark Souls 2 - 0.5/5 |
evilford
05.10.20 | Dude the sniper battle with the end was fucking legendary lol. That's my favorite boss battle in the entire series
So far, the story is pretty weird and not in a good way lol, but everyone saying the gameplay in mgs5 is the best in the series, they're probably right |
Gallantin
05.10.20 | @conc - control schemes will definitely fuck you up in every MGS game except V, and maybe 4. I say play MGSV if you're interested. The story won't make any sense but you can pretty safely ignore it after the opening couple missions.
I just finished FF8 and now I don't know what to do for games. Dunno if I should go back and plat FF7R, play FF9, Ni No Kuni, Resonance of Fate, The World Ends With You, Granblue Fantasy Versus, or maybe just do a Bloodborne or Sekiro playthrough. Maybe chill with some indie games on Switch for a bit...hmm |
evilford
05.10.20 | @snox I honestly havent seen many people shitting on mgs5. Read a fair amount of reviews for it over the last couple of years and pretty much all of them say "the story is weird, the game is hard, it's a departure for longtime fans and it's still one of the best games ever made" |
evilford
05.10.20 | But yeah I'm only on mission 7 but I'd be surprised if this didnt end up being one of my favorite games, its fucking stellar |
R4zor3dge
05.10.20 | "The story is weird"
I haven't heard anyone say that. |
evilford
05.10.20 | That's one of the main points I remember taking away from multiple reviews |
evilford
05.10.20 | Unless I'm just transposing that onto them because that's what I think :D |
R4zor3dge
05.10.20 | lol. The main complaint others seem to have is that the story is bare bones in contrast to previous games. |
Gallantin
05.10.20 | The story is pretty weird
And unfinished
The more time I spend with the game the less problems I have with it though
After so many hours playing MGSV, I kinda like the story a lot. It's weirdly comforting. Even the fact that it's unfinished when the game still feels so full. Idk. It's a weird feeling. I love it. |
R4zor3dge
05.10.20 | Story aside, I still enjoyed it. The side missions were fun. |
tenderscum
05.10.20 | FF7R right now, never played the original but I'm into it hard (chapter 14 I think...). It has its glaring issues but I'm in love with the world, characters, combat and tone. Then I need to plat Judgment (gonna be tedious but great game), Death Stranding, and Nioh 2 before the dlc. I'm near addicted to the min/maxing aspect to the series and just fine tuning a build for those beautiful numbers (Nioh 2). I bought the Arkham trilogy and I already had to push through Asylum but very tempted to give up with City. It's just not my kind of game. I'm having a hard time with it, not difficulty-wise, but staying engaged. |
ConcubinaryCode
05.10.20 | MGS5's only complaint seems to be the story never got finished. Who knows what was going on behind the scenes though.
I only need to beat the joy prototype and like 5 more chapters on hard for the ff7r plat but I'm stuck on the second abzu fight. I can get him down to super low hp but his desperation move just swamps my party. |
ConcubinaryCode
05.10.20 | @gall definitely play ff9. It's so fucking fun. |

Konami was on some bullshit. They were (and probably still are)treating their employees like trash. The ones that haven't left anyway. |

BROFORCE!!! That game is the definition of hilarity. Always gets my adrenaline pumping at unhealthy levels lel
You should probably try Not A Hero, it's about as hilarious as Broforce(but more tryhard in that sense). The gameplay is different and more composed, but it's incredibly fun too. Additionally the "main" protagonist is a purple humanoid rabbit. What else do you need? |

Gallantin
05.11.20 | Maybe a good choice
I just don't think an action puzzle game was a good setting to put a deep story about psychosis
And even if it was the best setting, they could have done it better
As for how well they actually depict it, I've heard good things. I did not finish it to see how it concluded. But reception on its handling of the subject matter has been positive. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.11.20 | Yeah that's kind of more what I'm looking for because the content intrigues me deeply and I think it's a touching idea so its more of a question of whether it is done effectively or not |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.11.20 | On an aside if I were to play one of the resident evil games from the eshop what would you rec?

Gallantin
05.11.20 | Ah well yeah if you're interested on Senua for the subject matter then I was definitely the wrong person to answer, soz
If you want more action-oriented, RE4 and 5 are what I'd recommend first, I think they're both brilliant, especially if you have someone to play co-op for RE5.
If you want survival horror, start with RE1 without a doubt. If you like RE1, and if you're on PS4/XBO/PC, dive straight into the new 2 and 3 remakes (best played together as one experience). If you're really into those then you can play 0, Revelations, and Revelations 2, but they're not so essential.
As for Assassin's Creed...I liked the first 3 games back upon release but didn't like anything from Revelations onwards. I don't know if even those first three games will have aged well for me. I hear good things about Odyssey and Origins but I can't vouch for them. |
el_newg
05.11.20 | ezio trilogy is classic for the old style of AC games. and black flag is good too.
origins and odyssey are pretty different, very RPG inspired. odyssey especially wears its Witcher 3 influences on its sleeves if tht interests you. |

Odyssey can be a bit grindy at times, but I loved the general RPG mechanics of it, the world map is absolutely beautiful and the story is generally great. The game is massive and there's a shit ton of things to do. That can be a good thing (If you enjoy the game and it's several perks/trappings) or a bad thing (If you want to get things done quickly and move the story forward). Overall I really like it and I still play it regularly after a year of getting it.
On the other hand, I'm playing Horizon Zero Dawn atm and holy shit, I've been missing a top notch game. One of my favorite PS4 exclusives so far. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts

Faraudo
05.11.20 | I'm level 12 right now, so I've got a long fucking way to go. Loved every minute of it so far, the map is quickly becoming one of my favorites |
Chortles
05.11.20 | Wish I loved Horizon like so many others seem to. I got pretty far into it and was enjoying it for the most part, but at some point realized I didn't really care about the story and also just didn't want to sit through another thousand janky facial animations on Aloy. The combat loop rules like no other though and of course the game looks spectacular |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.11.20 | hahaha aloy does have a stupid fucking face agreed |
ConcubinaryCode
05.11.20 | The psychosis stuff in senua is really well done on top of some pretty cool depictions of demons in the first few acts. Combat really isn't the focus so you're better off just throwing it on easy and experiencing the story otherwise the enemies are just damage sponges. There's some really cool set pieces too. The puzzles aren't so much bad as they are one note. They tie in the Norse mythology stuff which is kinda shaky when they try to tie it to the psychosis stuff but it's ok. Worth a play through imo just don't expect a masterpiece.
Also get RE4. 0 is awful. Re Rev games are OK but definitely a step down quality wise. 1 is a classic but the modern controls don't go well with the camera angles so get used to tank controls. 5&6 suck solo but coop is decent. Both pale to 4. The 30$ price tag is bullshit though. Wait for a sale. |

05.12.20 | "Anyone tried Nioh 2 here? I'd like to try the game but it looks extremely frustrating."
If you can play Nioh 1 you can play Nioh 2 [2]
started this last night - there's a lot of new mechanics and additions to the combat system that will probably make gameplay a bit intimidating for anyone who hasn't played Nioh 1, but this means the game tends a bit less towards builds and more towards the player making the most of their movepool. In other words, it's a rough difficulty curve (as per all these games), but Nioh 2 is ultimately more accessible, 'fair' and user-friendly - it asks a lot of you, but dishes out more than enough tools for you to deal with. Boss and level design have both been stepped up from what I've seen, and the story doesn't blow this time around. Hyped to play on. |
DungeonBoy
05.12.20 | RE5 was pretty fun, RE6 though.. that's where I draw the line
At some point I'm gonna check out Nioh 2, but I just finished beating the first one last week and I need a break. I remember when it first came out people were saying it was harder than the souls games, but I had the complete opposite experience. I found Nioh to be relatively easy, a lot of the time, I mean I definitely died.. like a lot.. but the game is also very bountiful with healing elixers, which kinda changes everything if you are monitoring your health. Also.. the story of 1.. was there a story? I don't even know, I lost track in the beginning, and the main bad guy's name was Kelly.. just Kelly.. but at least the gameplay made up for it |
Gallantin
05.12.20 | Yeah, I don't think Nioh is any harder than Souls games, aside from the fact that its combat is deeper and harder to master. |
Gallantin
05.12.20 | But in terms of actual challenge, it's not like a huge gap. I've had a harder time with some Souls bosses than anything in Nioh. |
Chortles
05.12.20 | I had a lot of trouble getting used to switching stances in the beginning of Nioh, but yeah, after that it didn't really feel more or less difficult than a Souls game. Very satisfying to master that system though, I wish other aspects of that game were as good |
Anthracks
05.12.20 | well keep in mind most people who play nioh have already played through a couple souls games so you're going to be more well-equipped and prepared, in terms of basic strategies and dexterity |
Gallantin
05.12.20 | I think they draw on different skill sets. I feel like those familiar with character action games will have an easier time going into Nioh than those familiar with Souls titles. |
Gallantin
05.12.20 | I'm familiar with both though so I can't bring any validity to these claims |

hahahah yes it's hard as balls and it takes hours upon hours to start getting decently consistent at hitting aerials, but it's worth it. the game just gets more and more fun the better you get at it (if you can deal with the increased toxicity ofc). once you score your first air dribble goal you'll be hooked for good ^^ |

ConcubinaryCode
05.13.20 | There's plenty of gripes to be had with it but it's really great regardless. Cloud has zero charisma or personality which the original does do better and some sections are tedious on replay just to give the sense of fleshing out which is fine for one playthrough but I don't like doing the robo hand puzzles more than once. Also the stagger bar resetting mid fight is bullshit. The boss battles are where the game really shines imo. |
Gallantin
05.13.20 | Cloud's personality builds way better in the remake than in the OG. OG Cloud just seems more charismatic because the game fast tracks plot development so much. The Remake takes the time to make his character arc more...gooder. |

Dewinged
05.14.20 | Anyone playing Destiny 1 or 2 shoutbox me so I can finally finish the goddamn raids lol |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.14.20 | "In the remake he's so autistic he can't high five someone."
see he already has more character than he did in the original right there |
Gallantin
05.14.20 | These people don't seem to remember that in the original he had like 5 lines before the end of Midgar and they were all more boring than his personality in the remake.
Turning him learning how to high-five Aerith in the remake with a fucking quicktime event is 1000x more character development than he ever got before the 30 hour mark in the original and you see the line "let's mosey" |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.14.20 | Lmao |
Dewinged
05.14.20 | Being a total of 5 polygons didn't help his personality in the OG either, truth be told. |
Gallantin
05.14.20 | I think people tend to overstate the characters of the original considering they've had a whole slew of additional games and content over the last twenty years to make the FF7 world bigger and more fleshed out.
It took a long time for Cloud to get much story or personality in the original, and it was even sillier in the Midgar section when he starts off as "i'm just a mercenary doing this for the money" and less than an hour later is ready to fight with these people until the literal end of the world. The remake actually takes the time to give cloud stuff like...motivation, connection, relationships, etc. with all the characters around him. Idk why people are saying he has no personality, he's way more defined here than the OG |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.14.20 | "Being a total of 5 polygons didn't help his personality in the OG either, truth be told."
LOL |
Deathconscious
05.14.20 | Nah, i play the game like once a year, i didnt forget shit. Original FF7 Cloud was a much better character. |
Deathconscious
05.14.20 | "In the remake he's so autistic he can't high five someone."
Yeah hes got severe autism in the Remake. Maybe thats why snox likes that version better, he relates. |
MyNameIsPencil
05.14.20 | been playing way too much day of defeat source but when I'm not doing that I've been cracking at final fantasy 9 and Disco Elysium
still need to finish dark souls and persona 4 tho :L |
budgie
05.14.20 | damn ppl still play DOD:S?? |
Minushuman24
05.14.20 | Finish those damn games. Persona4 is my all time favorite game, and Dark souls is top 3. So worth the investment. |
loveisamixtape
05.14.20 | also here 4 destiny 2 Or dying light if anyone plays loll |
MyNameIsPencil
05.14.20 | I'm pretty far into persona 4, i just take breaks when I need to grind lol
and dark souls i just need to set my 360 back up cause I moved recently
and yeah dod:s has a few pretty dedicated communities, you can still usually find a few populated servers whenever |
osmark86
05.14.20 | I must have 1000+ hrs in the original Day of Defeat. damn I loved that game. |
osmark86
05.14.20 | might just have to jump into some of those dedicated DOD:S servers for some serious nostalgia. |
evilford
05.14.20 | I cant stop seeing Jack bauer when snake talks in mgsv |
teamster
05.14.20 | If anyone wants to play with my son on PS4..add him. I swear he could be a pro gamer. Always at the top of the leaderboards. CoD, Rainbow 6, Overwatch, Rocket League. His aim is amazing for a damn controller.
PS4 : blade4487
Tell him you know his Dad. |
evilford
05.14.20 | Lol..... |
teamster
05.14.20 | I don’t play with you console peasants ....
...pc masterrace! Lol. |
evilford
05.14.20 | Something about a controller in ur hand man.
Also, last I knew, metal gear shit ain't on PC. That's probably my fav series of all time so it played a part in my decision to go console (ps4). Plus I dont have PC $
Rich ass mfer lol |
teamster
05.14.20 | Evil , you are correct sir. Not cross-platforming sucks. Never played Destiny 1 because it never came out on pc and the final fantasy games are so much better on console. |
evilford
05.14.20 | Almost want a cheap pc tho so I can still play starcraft and HL2 |
Egarran
05.14.20 | Indeed, mouse+keyboard are the superior controllers. |
budgie
05.14.20 | get post scriptum evil |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.14.20 | I'm not pc gaming nerd but I will never ever understand how anyone possibly thinks its fun to play games with a mouse and a keyboard |
osmark86
05.15.20 | would you play gems like Baldur's Gate II on a bloody controller pots? |
osmark86
05.15.20 | just finished Gris and man that was eye and ear candy the whole way through. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.15.20 | @osmark well I probably just wouldnt play baldur's gate ii lol |
Gyromania
05.15.20 | King of fighters 4 is a great time |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.15.20 | I dunno it makes sense for certain games that were designed to be played with a mouse and keyboard but as a general rule mouse and keyboard being universally better than a controller is a mind boggling claim |
Gallantin
05.15.20 | M&K is good for CRPGs and strategy games. Awful for FPS. I mean, MOUSE is good for FPS, but keyboard is a nightmare. |
beefshoes
05.15.20 | Chrono Trigger guys, Chrono Trigger |
Gyromania
05.15.20 | Keyboard and mouse is 10 times better than a controller when it comes to fps games. You can be eay more accurate with your entire hand than you can with just your thumb. Outside of fps tho, keuboard and mouse is mostly garbage, especially for platformers and fighters |
budgie
05.15.20 | " Outside of fps tho, keuboard and mouse is mostly garbage, "
like, turn based rpgs, arpgs, rts games... |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.15.20 | Turn based shit, tactical shit, fps to a degree, certain styles of rpgs like baldurs gate as mentioned all make sense to me
Any hack and slashes or rpgs like skyrim or dark souls kind of thing, mario, zelda style games, platformers etc etc would be awful with a mouse and keyboard |
Gyromania
05.15.20 | I mean rts sure but how many of those are even around anymore outside of stuff lile Xcom. Turn based rpgs are fine with a controller imo but sure, kb&m is also fine
fps to a degree? As a person who put in close to a thousand hours in overwatch on console and then switched to pc I can tell you definitively playing a sniper like Widowmaker on console and then switching to pc is night and day |
budgie
05.15.20 | "I mean rts sure but how many of those are even around anymore"
;_;
anyway, diablo 1 was unplayable on console, and diablo 2 and poe would probably also be unplayable. diablo 3 sucks so who cares. |
budgie
05.15.20 | i played morrowind on console & pc and vastly prefer pc. and that is before mods enter the equation |
Gyromania
05.15.20 | Seriously, rts isn't nearly as big a thing anymore, and it sucks because I played a shit ton of them growing up |
budgie
05.15.20 | yeah it's sad. aoe2 is quite strong right now however which is neat |
Gallantin
05.15.20 | Plenty of RTS games still going round. There's a large PC market for them still. They're not even that niche.
Developers are getting better at making traditionally M&K games work with gamepads now. Diablo 3 works beautifully on consoles, and old CRPGs like Baldur's Gate work well on them now as well. And newer CRPGs like Pillars of Eternity and Divinity Original Sin have had quick turnarounds to release on console and work like a treat. No game is really unfeasible on a gamepad if there is dedicated dev time to development for it. |
budgie
05.15.20 | i would argue post scriptum (& probably other milsim style games) couldn't be mapped onto a controller without removing some functionality |
Gyromania
05.15.20 | Agreed with both of you. Controllers have developed a lot over the years and are far more intuitive now, but there are instances where they fall short.
Unfortunately I haven't seen a lot of rts games around lately, maybe I'm just not looking in the right place. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.15.20 | Re morrowind etc ya the mods for pc are a big plus but you can still play pc with a controller.. |
Gallantin
05.15.20 | That new Ghost of Tsushima reveal stuff is pretty disappointing. Not liking the fact that it's another Assassin's Creed-style open world title with generic stealth options.
The customisation and photo mode and cinema mode and whatnot is nice, but...otherwise this game is not selling me at all. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
05.15.20 | @gyro by "to a certain degree" for fps I understand aiming with a mouse is exponentially quicker and more precise so that makes sense to me. What doesnt sound fun to me is moving around and having your other functions mapped to a keyboard. That's all. |
Gallantin
05.15.20 | @gyro: there are way more RTS games on the way this year, but Crusader Kings III just came out (or its being reviewed rn) and people are very positive about it. |
ConcubinaryCode
05.15.20 | I think valve was onto something with their steam controller that had a track pad on it but they sure gave up on it quickly. Wish I grabbed one when they were dumping them for $5. |
budgie
05.15.20 | Re morrowind etc ya the mods for pc are a big plus but you can still play pc with a controller..
true |
Gallantin
05.15.20 | And yea pots is right. Like I said earlier the problem with FPS games on a M&K is not in the M, it's all in the K. |
budgie
05.15.20 | gallantin what rts games? is there a list somewhere |
Gallantin
05.15.20 | Shit man just google 2020 RTS games and you'll be greeted with a long list, and you can do the same with any other recent year. It's a large portion of the PC market. |
Gallantin
05.15.20 | RTS games are so essential to the PC market that fucking Total War is essentially a serialised yearly release akin to Call of Duty |
budgie
05.15.20 | ok well total war franchise doesn't actually have any rts games within it so idk what you're thinking aboout |
Gallantin
05.15.20 | Total War isn't a full on RTS ur right, but it's semi-RTS and I'll stand by that |
ian b
05.15.20 | not to be that guy, but to be that guy, who has xbox still and wanna co-op through some game pass games? username is Novelty Sweater (ofc) |
budgie
05.15.20 | total war is a turn based grand strategy with a RTT battle component, callin it semi-rts is so fuckin weird |
Gallantin
05.15.20 | Well eat my ass budg how bout that |
Gallantin
05.15.20 | Also there's literally no difference between "real time tactics" and "real time strategy"
Total War games being significantly part-real time tactics is no different than just saying they're semi-RTS games so you can eat my fuckin aaaarsse |
budgie
05.15.20 | rts = resource gathering, base building, tech
|
Gallantin
05.15.20 | That's a very narrow view of what an RTS is |
ConcubinaryCode
05.15.20 | What games do you play Ian? |
budgie
05.15.20 | "That's a very narrow view of what an RTS is"
i'm sorry you don't approve of the fucking definition! |
Gallantin
05.15.20 | I do not. |
Gallantin
05.15.20 | Maybe when that Dune game came out it was the definition but it's been like 30 years, genres expand and change, brah |
