02.09.12 | hey there; really liked deadwing but it always felt too much like in absentia part 2 to me. still a good album. |
IMZA1793
02.09.12 | i feel kinda guilty i could never get too much into the first 4 albums. there are some great songs(Dark matter comes to mind) but i always felt there was also filler. |
Divine
02.09.12 | "My opinion after listening to them for 1 year."
That's why this ranking sucks |
IMZA1793
02.09.12 | i do like it. just not as much as the others |
IMZA1793
02.09.12 | well maybe if i listen to their older albums again, i'll like them more. |
AnotherBrick
02.09.12 | pretty much disagree with everything about this ranking |
Masochist
02.09.12 | Hahaha, BRICK SIGHTING.
Anyways...I still don't think I could rank Porcupine Tree. 'In Absentia' is the album that made me love them, but 'Stupid Dream' is probably the most endearing thing they've made, but 'Deadwing' has so many favorites of mine, but 'Fear of a Blank Planet' is consistent as all damn Hell, and even 'The Incident' has "Time Flies."
The only thing I could say is that my ranking would be different. But it's not like I could tell you what it was. Good list either way, if only because it's a PT list :-P |
IMZA1793
02.09.12 | exactly. i like/love all PT albums but i have a little more attachment to their post signify era material ;p |
IMZA1793
02.09.12 | also "BRICK SIGHTING"? |

02.09.12 | 3 or 5 is 1 (which is awesome, but I never dug it as much as the others)
7 should be higher
Great band anyway, you can't go wrong with Porcupine Tree |

02.09.12 | Porcupine tree are one of my most loved bands, but for some reason I can't get in FOABP. Title track is cool and the middle of anesthetize is mind blowing, but the rest of the album is pretty meh compared to Deadwing, In Absentia, etc... |

In all actuality, it's probably their least-accessible album. But it's the most rewarding upon repeat listens. "Way Out Of Here" is of my absolute favorite PT songs. |
Zantera
02.09.12 | Their wost as number 1? interesting. Meh is all I have to say. |
KILL
02.09.12 | 9 is way too low and zantera how is 1 their worst you dumb bitch? 10 is by far |
Zantera
02.09.12 | Their worst if you're not counting OTSOL, which I didn't think people did. OTSOL is still enjoyable, but yeah.. In Absentia is their 9th best album then. |
KILL
02.09.12 | nah the incident is their 2nd worst |
PistolPete

I was in the same boat but eventually "My Ashes" and "Sentimental" became some of my favorite songs by them, they're both so well-written and touching. Just give it time. |
NeutralThunder12
02.09.12 | 9 is really underrated and 1 is boring |
IMZA1793
02.09.12 | meh. i almost put deadwing over lightbulb sun just because of "Arriving". that song is everything i love from PT. |
UnnamedOcean
02.09.12 | I really can't get into In Absentia. I just find it too sterile. |
IMZA1793
02.09.12 | Stupid dream would be my number 1 if wilson had put the full version of even less. that one is in my top 10 songs by PT |
IMZA1793
02.09.12 | anesthetize is my favorite PT song. 2nd song i heard from them also(a friend recomended me blackest eyes and i loved it). seems like blackest eyes is the best choice if you want someone to be hooked to PT. |
botb
02.09.12 | 9's too low but pretty good ranking tbh |
IMZA1793
02.09.12 | been listening to their old albums. liking burning sky/fadeaway a lot. |
RooseveltsGhost
02.09.12 | Signify is the shit. That album is what I point to back up my 'Pink Floyd is a poor man's Porcupine Tree' claim. Dark Matter, Sever, and Waiting Phase Two are better than anything in the PF catalog. |
Dimor
02.09.12 | For me 5 is definitely 2, and 9 should be way, way higher. The incident is not that good and should be put lower. otherwise its pretty good, nice to see OTSOF on there aswell |
JohnnyoftheWell
02.09.12 | 9 is a decent album, but it has nothing on 8 |
JohnnyoftheWell
02.09.12 | Also, Signify is indeed the shit; Dark Matter, Waiting and Sleep of No Dreaming are incredible (although I find Sever a bit meh) |
IMZA1793
02.09.12 | You are forgetting Every Home is Wired and Light Mass Prayer. Both great songs. |
WhiteOwl
02.10.12 | thank your everbody for your useful "X should be Y" comments THAAAANK YOUUUU |

02.10.12 | whoa how is 9 that low |
sulkenigma
02.10.12 | Your list is actually really similar to what mine would be like. I haven't listened much to their earlier stuff yet though but I will very soon. |
KILL
02.10.12 | 9 rapes 8 johnny bitch |
JohnnyoftheWell
02.10.12 | never really got into 9, but it's still great |
IMZA1793
02.10.12 | really did not know 9 was so loved here. title track and Stars die are great but the rest of the album never stood out for me. |
JohnnyoftheWell
02.10.12 | The moon touches your shoulder and the title track are the only bits I really like |
RooseveltsGhost
02.11.12 | Dislocated Day is the only track I like from Sky Moves Sideways. Both title tracks have some great parts, but they also have cringe-worthy parts and are waaaayyyy too long. Raider II is better than either phase. |
Yazz_Flute
02.11.12 | 9 should be way higher. |
IMZA1793
03.03.12 | The Incident may not be as amazing as FOABP but it still is really consistent and has some great songs (Time Flies, Remember Me lover, etc.). I wonder what the next album will sound like (if they ever do it) |
JohnnyoftheWell
03.03.12 | Steven Wilson said that they were thinking about a new album, but won't record until they have some decent inspiration; they won't write an album for it's own sake |
Dimor
03.03.12 | Yeh, thats what iv'e heard aswell. I guess Steven wants to work around with Storm Corrosion a bit first too. Im longing to hear some of Gavin Harrisons drumming once again, hes so fucking sick. |
RooseveltsGhost
03.03.12 | I read somewhere that Steven said only 15-20% of the music on Storm Corrosion had drums. I'll withhold judgment from that statement until I've heard it, but I will say that Gavin is the best part of anything SW does. |
NeutralThunder12
03.03.12 | 1 is bor9ing |
Dis_Con_Nec_Ted
03.03.12 | @Dimor
If you can handle different and more challenging vocals than PT then why not check out Gavin's collab with 05ric (Gavin Harrison & 05ric). Some of his most impressive stuff is among this material.
|
Dimor
03.03.12 | Acutally ive listened to some of their stuff, and i agree, it certainly does include some amazing drumming. Kinda like him more in his music with PT though. |
IMZA1793
03.04.12 | I wonder what kind of music Wilson and Mikael will do for that Storm Corrosion project. I hope it does not dissapoint me because i'm kinda expecting something great. |
Scoot
03.04.12 | fucking great band |
Dimor
03.04.12 | Ive heard that the music is supposed to be mainly "acoustic-based" so to speak, and alot of mellow and clean songs are to be expected i guess. But those are really the parts that i love the most about Opeth and Steven Wilson's projects, so im sure it won't dissapoint. |
IMZA1793
03.05.12 | After hearing what they can do together in songs like deadwing and bleak i've got to say i'm kinda excited. |
tarkus
03.05.12 | this ranking is like
