YES A KAYO DOT GUITAR SOLO
[2]
|
| |
keepin' it alive boys
|
| |
Digging this hard.
|
| |
Thought this sounded like an intro to the album, but supposedly it's the final track. Interesting move, I dig the song. Toby sounds great
|
| |
bet this rules
|
| |
Rocks, Toby's singing is quite a bit moe "expressive" than usual
|
| |
Oh this is good
|
| |
The song doesn't really do much for me. This is a nice surprise though.
|
| |
Sounds like a step back
|
| |
Sell outs
|
| |
They sound pretty "normal" compared to older stuff.
Like the song.
|
| |
Oh god this isn't good - it sounds like a bad impersonation of A Forest of Stars.
I really hope the rest of the album isn't like this
|
| |
im a little bit disappointed. kayo dot has always stood out from the crowd and pushed the envelope, but this just kinda blends in. pretty good song in general if I pretend its not the new kayo dot song. hope the rest of the album is a lot more nuts
|
| |
I’ve had a few beers and just listened to this for the second time and I think I love it. Makes me want to get up and do shit(?).
|
| |
I’m also tickled by everyone second guessing Kayo Dot. “Normal”...”a step back”...so, different than every KD release, which are different than every KD release. Cool.
|
| |
The song is neat, ends too abruptly and I'm not sure how I feel about hearing the last song first... but naturally very curious how the rest of the album will sound.
|
| |
The end does seem oddly quick, but I still enjoy it
|
| |
Yeah seems like a weird closer out of context, but dig the song a lot
|
| |
I've heard on the grapevine that the rest of the album is pretty much like this - shame, I'm still cautiously interested to hear it myself
|
| |
If the rest of the album is like this then it'll be awesome.

YES A PROGMASTER85 REFERENCE
|
| |
For real tho with the amount of negativity from most people surrounding every new Kayo Dot album, it's almost like nobody understands that they're simply not gonna just make Choirs of the Eye again. There is no identifiable Kayo Dot sound. Each album is completely different. This will be no different. "Experimental" or no, Toby still has a great ear for great composition.
|
| |
I'm still incredulous about when he said during an AMA that he writes everything. Ev-er-y-thing. Bananas.
Now I don't remember if that was for solo work or band stuff, but as the leader I imagine he mean for most stuff, but thinking about some of my favorite stuff of his, I'm just like "how".
|
| |
Or another Hubardo, that was very well-received on its release. Just like with Ulver too, I guess if you're a unique band with a devoted cult following like that and your first couple albums are groundbreaking metal releases, be prepared to have a small minority of fans bring it up with every album cycle afterward, no matter how long you've been branching out into other genres and clearly past that original style.
I don't think Toby writes everything for Kayo Dot or maudlin, for example in that reddit AMA I believe, he said that Blue Lambency Downward was practically a 50/50 collaboration with a jazz guy or something like that. Also the lyrics are usually written by his friend Jason Byron.
|
| |
Looked it up; still crazy to me:
It's almost always all 100% composed, with the exception of how all musicians tend to play things in their own particular way, or if there's a solo. There can be a degree in letting things evolve naturally when it comes to production and mix choices, but generally speaking, the compositions are a set thing. One notable exception is Tartar Lamb - Sixty Metonymies, in which 100% of the guitar and violin was strictly composed but 100% of the trumpet, synth, and percussion was improvised as a juxtaposition.

YES A JOSH D POST

Didn't watch the video but I did listen to this. Eh.
|
| |
Y'all need to get onboard asap as possible.
|
| |
"they're simply not gonna just make Choirs of the Eye"
And that is a good thing.
|
| |
>Didn't watch the video
Lmao no need - it's even lazier than a lyric video
|
| |
THOSE SMOKE PATTERNS WERE SIGNIFICANT, OK!?
Kinda dig the track but those lyrics put my cringe on heavy standby
|
| |
Breath is real, anger's real
Sleep on your birthday and cry
Cry, my baby
Let me wash you
I have no ears for my lady...
|
| |
m'lady *tips fedora*

I feel like lyrics are one of the last things to focus on with Toby Driver music.

Cant believe I'm still so legendary my god

I'm glad the snippets from the podcast are more interesting than A Prophecy. Kayo Dot will never make a sub-par album.
