Review Summary: I AM SIEGE UBSESSED!!!
Boy oh boy am I an absolute sucker for some cheesy metal. Now the cheese has to be within certain boundaries, but when done right, it can be some of the most fun you can have listening to music. Curta'n Wall is a one-man raw black/folk metal band from California and he is the next in a long line of great up and coming USBM bands. Abysmal Spectre is the man behind Curta'n Wall and I bet this guy loves Lord of the Rings and Dungeons and Dragons because his debut full-length
Siege Ubsessed! definitely reflects it.
Honestly this is one of the best times I've had listening to music all year. This album is 90% synth driven but don't let that put you off. There are still riffs but they're pushed more to the background. We have horns and keys and all kinds of *** going on here.
Siege Ubsessed makes you feel like a peasant wandering the streets, weary and looking for food. Suddenly your knight in shining armor shows up to save you but then he is sent to battle. Abysmal Spectre is a master at evoking those medieval feelings with his music. His nasty snarls are a symbol of the pain and suffering endured in a long sweaty battle where not everyone will make it out alive. This album is bombastic and over the top in all the right ways. Instead of being another super cheese symphonic folk album, the rawer production gives this a more authentic feeling of the dark ages. I'd be an idiot if I didn't mention the AMAZING female vocals present all throughout this album. They add a feminine touch, almost as if she is a damsel in distress waiting to be rescued.
Curta'n Wall is a band that I am absolutely ecstatic to follow into the future. If you're a fan of extremely epic sounding battle metal with an edge of rawness and attitude, this is for you. The best word to describe
Siege Ubsessed is majestic. This thing soars like a dragon over a bloody battlefield looking for enemies. It's an experience you'll want to have again and again. So grab your sword and lets go to war. M///
