Review Summary: Stilled chaos
From The New World toes the line between brutal, all-out heaviness and melodic progressive metalcore. It’s a difficult balance to maintain, yet Allt manages to execute with near perfection. While
The Seed of Self-Destruction and
Dark Waters have the same dynamic approach, there’s just something missing from them. Instead of feeling cohesive, the elements felt meshed together rather than seamlessly flowing in chemistry. However,
From The New World effortlessly intertwines the melody with the aggression.
Allt takes everything from their first two releases, and they take it to another level. The riffs hit harder, the melodies soar higher, the breakdowns drop lower, and the atmosphere dominates more. “A Flash of Light” starts the record with a jolt with a digital, glitchy atmosphere that sets up the chaos to come. The one-two punch of singles “Remnant” and “Aquila” showcase Allt’s improvements with intense yet melodic choruses and brutal breakdowns full of enhanced low growls and fast-paced grooves. Tracks like “Emanate” and “Cycles” follow the same suit with the strong, soaring choruses and heavier riffing sections, the latter featuring some of the most unique guitar sections on the album with reverse-effect riffs. “Echoes” dives deeper into the melodic side, leaning into a post-hardcore/alternative metal style song full of catchy vocal passages and softer, atmospheric verses interrupted briefly by an abrasive breakdown section. On the other end of the spectrum, “The Orphan Breed” and “Dissect Yourself” is a back-to-back barrage of bouncy rhythms, crushing riffs, and vocal display of high harshes and low gutturals.
Despite their young career, Allt has already started to find their groove in their realm of progressive metalcore.
From The New World is not only an impressive exhibition of the balance between melody and aggression, but a highlight of the band’s songwriting abilities and musicianship. Though they already had a foundation laid before them, they took their sound to another level, producing an album that is equally entertaining and replayable.
