| MO miss you bro m/ hope all is well
| BSX Are you here??
| MO Yea, the shugg are eternal, forever and always for me. If I'm listening to random albums and something from Nothing comes up I literally just have to follow it up with the whole album. Glad you feel the same way heh. As for Deathmole, it takes a couple listens for sure. But definitely give it a thorough listen, there are lots of subtlties thrown in, lots of great riffs too. Would make even the mighty shugg proud. Keep rockin' bro m/
| MO not sure how much you've heard from this year, but I found this and I think you'd dig. track 4 is a monster, give it a whirl if you find the timehttp://deathmole.bandcamp.com/album/permanence-2
| Deviant. That I do. And yeah I've got a few mates now who have just entered parenthood. They're all late 20s-early 30s, and they all believed that they had grown up by that point. Then they had their kids - now they've grown up!
| Brostep holy s*** you're back? welcome
| MO BESTIAL. PURE
| Deviant. I hear the crew is swimming back to NZ in a sea of their own tears
| Aids your "m8 do u even compress" in the meds thread was amazing.
| Gnocchi yea that does, you need some 'you' time dude
| Gnocchi All good dude : ] What's your next review?
| Gnocchi Thanks for fixing that art dude
| Ecnalzen Agustin Barrios, he composed for the guitar. There is an album of John Williams playing a select amount of his material. Here is a link from Amazon:http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00077F948/ref=s9_simh_gw_p15_d1_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER
| Ecnalzen I would like to add some classical to the database, but I am not exactly sure how to go about doing it and I was directed to you by Jom. If you don't mind me asking, how exactly does it work? Is it just done by the individual pieces, suites, etc., since they didn't really have 'albums' back then? There is a good possibility that this is a very poorly worded question, lol.
| MO rockin' I and thought of you
| andcas he retired the character. since the video game was mentioned I figured I'd share.
| andcas did you watch the video lol.
| BaselineOOO no no I just woke up and wanted to clear that up that's why I'm so dodgy
| BaselineOOO nothing happened now but you are always giving me a hard time, you're rude!
| Deviant. Are you talking about the 'Truant/Rough Sleeper' release? Because if so, Id the art for that
| Deviant. What releases in particular are you talking about? Every release on his artist page has the only correct "artwork" for the release; in the case of his EPs they're simply photos of the vinyl themselves as there is no actual artwork
| Deviant. Both staff and user feature have all been completed image wise, but thanks for the offer man
| Deviant. Haha that was great, though I don't how well my patience would hold up over repeat viewing. Same to you as well man, and hey maybe one of your resolutions for the new year could be to finally finish this database treatise of yours!
| MO hey bro, gave the Nothing release a review you should check it out ;)
| liledman Sounds interesting, I didn't know you were at JMC. How is it?
| liledman Oh my... I don't really know how to even process that haha. Holy s***. What is your thesis on, and what for?
| froghawk Hey, sorry I took a while to respond. I'm not an engineer, but I am a recording artist, so I've learned a lot about it through observing engineers work on my stuff. Hopefully I'll be able to do most of it myself one day...
| Adabelle Just stumbled across your Liszt biography and wanted to say that I appreciate how much time you put into the database. Was a very interesting read so thanks!
| omnipanzer I knew you were over thinking it. I got a kick out of answering your paragraph with a single sentence. =^P
| omnipanzer I'm 35, 10 in either direction would yield 25-45.
| Deviant. Tbh I'm not entirely sure (I'm something of a blogging noob). But leave them in there for the forum version of it, and I can easily manually add them in for the blog. And yeah, Cloudkicker thread being a perfect example
| MO wow apparently I can't typegotcha man no worries, when I originally posted it I figured soundtracks since it said movies, games, etc. thanks for the cache too, when I realized it was gone I scoured my recycle bin to try and find it heh, cheersi'm actually working on a meshuggah review I think you'll enjoy, it's not I but it should make for a good read
| MO ahhh bro you're killing me why'd you request to the deus ex page? that was one of my best review :S
| Sowing Deviant put you up for it I think, but it never would have happened if we all didn't agree that you were a good choice
| Irving Congrats on the promotion Jake. You're a really good writer, and hell, all that work you've done for the site and its database - incredible (I for one can't forget the single-minded devotion and exceptional care that you lavished on the Disney Soundtracks discography - it still brings a tear to my Simba-and-Nala themed heart). Hope this promotion inspires you to continue your good work on here.
| MO Congrats man. Definitely a well deserved promotion seeing as you do more for this site, imo, than most others other than actual staff and mods. Good to have a Meshuggah loving contrib. I!!!!!!!!
| Fugue Nice one man, well deserved from what I've read of yours. Keep it up!
| Sowing Congrats Taylor, you deserve this
| Gyromania I don't think you even applied, but this is awesome. Congrats, bud.
| Deviant. Congrats dude, I have no idea who put your name forward....
| Ire Congrats, man. I'm anticipating your staff promotion and subsequent 5/5 review for a Brand New album.
| Yuli Pleased to see you as a fellow contributor, friend. :] congratulations.
| Xenophanes Veeeeerrrrry pleased to see this promotion. I look forward to what your classy ass will bring to the site haha : ]
| KILL10 theyd 3 of my passion reviews, artist endeavours if you will, i am not happy indeed this is a sad day for metal
| BaselineOOO new Dead Can Dance, Fiona Apple, Zelienople or something?
| BaselineOOO awww, it's still the best rec I got this year!
| BaselineOOO movement III could be the trailer music for the new Batman movie, easily
| BaselineOOO Yes, are you sure you heard Hans Zimmer's entire discography?
| BaselineOOO Loved it, it dragged a bit but it sounded like an improved version of Hans Zimmer's soundtracks or something.
| TMobotron Alright I used it in a Kastle review that I just put up. Could not decide on what sounded best there. Thanks man!
| TMobotron Dude, I know you review a lot and you're helpful for the site and saw you just posted, so I'm gonna target you randomly :). If I'm writing a review that uses a quote from the show Twin Peaks, should I use the phrasing Twin Peaks's "quote" or Twin Peak's "quote"?
| BaselineOOO That's the best rec I got this year, thank you! looking forward.
| Deviant. He's like a car crash CANNOT AVERT MY EYES
| KILL7 anti rockers got me once again
| Irving Well I'm glad you picked me then! =) Album's ace - one of my favourites of all time, and The Great Gig in the Sky is a superb classic. There never has been something quite like it even after all this time. There's a reason why they wanted to call it "The Mortality Sequence" at first. Ok, on 3 now...1, 2, 3...OOOOH-WAOH-WAOH-WOAH-WWWWAAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOHHHHH!!!! =)
| kingsoby1 stuff is good, mainly work, take care of kid, work some more. Figured it would help with my sanity to write some more. Are you going to apply for contrib?
| Deviant. I'm almost 100% certain that there isn't
| Deviant. Nice! One thing I was thinking of was perhaps blogging it as well, just to give it some extra attention. Obviously the forum thread for this (I'm assuming that's how you'll be presenting it) would be an ongoing thing, but the forum post could act as just a temporary way of advertising it
| Deviant. How's the database treaty coming along?
| BaselineOOO "One of the most fascinating things about this album is that fans either hold it either just above Aeima, or just below it." I know right? it's just so fascinating, I'm going to think about this all my life and I will give you an answer when I'm fully prepared.
| CaptainDooRight Awesome. Let me know how it turns out. How long do you think it will take and types of modifications are u thinking of
| CaptainDooRight ok bro i just checked and their mpeg-4 audio files. hope that helps
| CaptainDooRight I may to check my computer to see how it saved it as. But I used the default voice memo recorder that comes as stock on the newest I phone 4s. So lol I'm not 100% sure but once I get home later on I'll check my comp to see what format it says
| CaptainDooRight Awesome advice bro. That makes total sense cool I'll have to change that. Yeah man that would be totally cool with me brother. Do u want me to email you the 4 tracks?
| Deviant. Do me a favor. Read the squarepusher thread that's on the the front page atm and tell me that I'm not going crazy and that this site seriously is getting dumber by the day
| Deviant. Yeah, I think he's busy making (and drinking) wine. Hmmm, Craig Armstrong - As If To Nothing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKIJI6tGrt0 and maybe some of RJD2's stuff (even though he generally leans more towards hip hop beats, but I'm sure you'll know this track and recognise why I thought of him http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdqwmvKeZWc. Maybe UNKLE as well but that's really about it tbh
| Deviant. Are you going to be adding anything to your database treatise about deluxe editions and/or splits?
| Metalstyles I've always had the first pinned down ;), and thanks for info, I didn't know that was the case. Definitely makes sense to use parentheses then, yes.
| Metalstyles Hey man, just curious, why exactly are we now using/preferring parentheses over brackets? I saw you changed the POL behind Pandemonium's name that way and am inquiring as to why.
| AngelofDeath Yeah, but mainly just for mixing and stuff. Some of my favorites are Domaine de Canton (ginger), St. Germain (elderflower), and Frangelico (hazelnut).
| Deviant. Duncestep?? Grime certainly has roots in dubstep, but I wouldn't put them together, nor would I even bother giving grime its own page when this site treats it as hip hop (which it is, in a broad sense). Also, I should have a reply to your email tomorrow (sorry man, been busy)
| Deviant. No that still works haha. I can get back on relatively swiftly after attempting to make an edit, but the edits themselves still aren't going through. Oh, I'm working on the database thingy now as well
| Deviant. You still having trouble with your edits going through? Every time I try the page just resets
| BaselineOOO Why are you always being so mean? can we be friends on last.fm?
| Deviant. "For a site as large as Sputnik (not discounting the arguments relating to its comparitively small size), it certainly could do with a couple more mods. Preferably in the other hemispheres." - be patient
| mandan According to you, which is the best place to start with Meshuggah?
| Sowing My bad if I took it too seriously haha. I think I was just remembering how we went back and forth on an old Taylor Swift review (and a few others as well) and just assumed you had a fundamental disrespect for my musical opinion. And that's fine, I was just defending myself. But if you're just messing around then I apologize for being such a straight edge ;)
| BaselineOOO Stop rating the production of the albums and listen to the actual music, geezer.
| lancebramsay You are the unsung hero of sputnik. Thank your sir.
| lancebramsay http://kickrocs.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/bryant-dope-queens-kids1.png
| lancebramsay hey, I appreciate you adding the album art for Bryant Dope but it's the wrong cover. I've tried to upload the correct one several times but it doesn't seem to work.
| MO hell yea, that part where the bass drops in the middle, Behind the Sun is probably my favourite from, just evil as ****, I'm glad they pulled through on this, album destroys
| conesmoke if you're a pianist, you should check out the intro to the genesis song firth of fifth, such a fun piece to play
| conesmoke How hectic is the entrapment solo lol!
| liledman im actually using safari at the moment, but ill be on the look out for that stuff, thanks.
| NWOAHM666 Why do you always write "666" on my lists or after my comments?
| Xenophanes ...want any assistance i'd be happy to help out : 3
| Xenophanes That makes a lot of sense, and you're right it does seem crude. Unfortunately we don't have an RYM style database so doing all of that would be ridiculously difficult. Although I'm an avide listener, I tend to stay away from classical on here because of ratings and what you mentioned. I'd like for it to be bigger on the site though because some albums to have big followings, and the community would probably take to classical very easily. Since you mentioned editing and stuff, if you ever...
| Xenophanes Because a composition written in 1800 is different than an album performed and recorded by someone else in 2005. There are different interpretations of a piece which is why there are many different recordings. We may have the same composition from, let's say Bach, but we could have two different albums by two different performers that vary on how they are interpretted. Yet we're rating the same "album" in the databas Also, you're cutting out the modern day performer, giving them no recognition
| Xenophanes Thanks a lot for letting me know, I appreciate it. Imo it seems kinda silly to do it that way, but mod law is final haha
| Xenophanes I hope you too had a fine Christmas, best wishes for the new year, bud : )
| Jom Thanks, dude! Hope you had a festive Christmas, and good luck and good health to you and yours in the New Year. Peace.
| rasputin thanks for the kind words jake, wishing you all the best too. my family doesn't really bother much with christmas othre than having a day off, but that's more to do with our lack of religiosity rather than inclination towards anything else ;)
| Haz likewise, all the best
| MO Thanks alot man, you as well eh! I believe this next year in music is gonna be so crushing, let's take it on full force. Sto lat m/
| Gyromania Thanks a lot for the Christmas wishes, Jake, I appreciate it =] And same to you - I hope you're having a good time and enjoying the holidays! xx
| Irving Hey there Jake! Merry Christmas to you too! Thanks so much for your greetings - please accept my best wishes for the year ahead as well. While I'm here, allow me to apologize for any mistakes on my part in our occasional interactions (esp since we sort of got off on the wrong foot here on this site). It's been a pleasure working with you so far on here; long may it continue. Best wishes - Irving. Cheers! =)
| Piglet don't worry, i'll badger her until need be.and merry christmas to you too bro!
| liledman hope you have had a great day also man, and that the storm didnt ruin any plans either haha. best wishes for the new year.
| Deviant. Ah right haha. All I saw was "link?" and "presents due" so I automatically assumed you were just trying to save money by downloading it instead! Same to you as well man
| Deviant. http://www.filestube.com/search.html?q=skrillex bangarang
| Deviant. Doing alright in Welly at the moment, just a drop or two of rain
| Gnocchi All well, at least it's good to see you're still floating around sputnik Jake : ]
| Gnocchi Yes, but what's the point? I know there's a difference between constructive and waste your time. I'm fully aware that this is the internet and s*** happens, but who dras the line? Is there no such thing as self regulation?
| Gnocchi The maturity to be found on this site can be staggering. : /
| AngelofDeath Yeah, it's really pretty good for the price. But, then again, I've always been a big fan of JD.
| Deviant. Digging: Swarms - Old Raves End - well, I guess you just took your boat out to give it a wash
| BaselineOOO Nah, after hearing The Caretaker with them I realized they're not so good, I'm selling them. Looking for something with a wider soundstage and a similar sound signature.
| BaselineOOO But I want you to recommend me good headphones.
| BaselineOOO wow, I want you so badly in my msn list right now.
| BaselineOOO I was actually looking for something more lifechanging than just decent, but I'll give them a try when I have some time.
| BaselineOOO Recommend me a great, non-episodic tv series.
| Activista anti-MTV I also liked your Black Sabbath - s/t soundoff. Music that defines as much as it pleases. Nicely put
| Activista anti-MTV Nice review of Stravinsky. I would post in the thread, but there are a couple of etards in there, maybe have the mods have a look at the comments page in the morning?
| Deviant. No I agree wholeheartedly, it's just a huge turn off for the site
| Deviant. My advice would be to perhaps mention it in the meds thread or perhaps in one of the mods shoutboxes so they become aware that it might be a potential issue and then I can follow up by suggesting that maybe I could come on board or something
| Deviant. Yeah I think if memory serves me it's night over most of America. Have no idea what the time difference is over in Ireland in regards to Dave but he's on leave at the mo. Might bring it up
| foreverendeared Oh of coarse! A truce it is. I'm just one of those annoying people that likes to argue even when it's pointless or when it's just better to keep my mouth shut. A horrible affliction to have when growing up around strict parents.
| foreverendeared Also, just the fact that smoking does not exacerbate the symptoms of asthma in ME is pretty damn good starting place for you to rethink your ignorant statement. Why should I be so lucky to be the recipient of such a miracle? If smoking worsens the symptoms of asthma, why didn't it in me? This was the starting point to my research. Do some digging for yourself.
| foreverendeared Well, I'm sorry but it just doesn't unless, like I said, the person is irritated or allergic to the smoke in the first place. Besides, a thorough amount of research for a research paper, physical evidence, and personal experience is quite a lot of empirical evidence to make my point. Just because you haven't done the research yourself doesn't make what I said stupid. Hope this helps.
| foreverendeared Since you said it was the dumbest thing you've ever heard, I thought you'd like to check your facts first: http://www.data-yard.net/10f/asthma_canada.htm
| Voivod Google is weak in before our Greek-lish!! Anyway, it's cool. On a different note, when i joined Sputnik, i was actually surprised with fact that i can post in plain Greek (not Greek-lish) in the review threads, just as a French or a Dutch fellow, for example, can post in his language as well. mx's job on the site is FANTASTIC!!!
| Voivod Were you referring to the below post with the latin characters that DON'T read as english??? Well I'm from Hellas (aka Greece) and we use latin characters to write Hellenic (aka Greek) words. We call them Greek-lish lol
| Voivod Well, ChemEng is a language that the more someone learns how to speak it, the more ignorant he/she really is, because it is impossible to know everything...So one is indeed expert at one scientific field, but a complete ignorant with respect to all the rest...There is going to be a mayhem at my phd examination in 2012 - a presentation of my work in front of an audience of university/college professors!!! - but i intend to survive with as less blood spilling as possible...
| Voivod Well, chemical engineering is an organized technical chaos, i'll give you that...
| Irving I decided to rewrite the opening paragraph to my Zola Jesus review. I simply couldn't live with it any longer. Thanks for taking the time to help me realize that man - appreciate it lots. Cheers.
| Gnocchi Thanks for that one mate, I will be taking all of that in and rest assured that I don't want to make a review that basically means "list is digs". Hope to see you floating around on my reviews a bit more.
| Gnocchi Hey man noticed we have been touching much of the same stuff lately, what did you think of my latest review?
| MO Hell yea, it's a face melting part. The following heavy section is destruction as well.
| MO **** yea man that part in I rules
| sonictheplumber lol dude I already manage 3 and play in 5, my hands are filled atm
| Irving Taylor, that was a ridiculously good job you did back there. Much respect - it must have taken you quite a while. Kudos mate - the site is a good deal neater thanks to what you did today. Hats off to you sir.
| Irving So, Jom moved our Disney stuff for us - we did it! *high five* =)
| Deviant. Snow wasn't too bad, the sleet and hail were intense though. But yeah, SNOWING IN WELLINGTON. What the ****
| BSX KYLIE MINOGUE
| Meatplow hey man just wondering if you were still working through those artists in the database thread
| Bitchfork Yes, I'm very dangerous as you should know.
Although seriously, I'm not the one who makes final decisions regarding new staff - trust me, if I was I wouldn't even be going through this process of emailery. Alas I have to. If you are interested - either respond with a shoutbox message with your email and I'll set things up, or email me at: atracey56@gmail.com
| Bitchfork If you give me your email I'd like to offer you a staff position. or rather, rrr would brah blah.
| AtavanHalen Sweet, man; really enjoying it. How's your billionth year of undying pessimism?
| chambered89 hey man I see you like classical here's some for ya Bela Bartok - Divertimento and Dance Suite, Ralph Vaughan Williams - A London Symphony, Hector Berlioz - Symphonie Fantastique, Eric Whitacre - Whitacre: Cloudburst :] enjoy
| DaveyBoy Just writing up my Cilmi review and noticed your rating. Definitely disappointing, especially since I like On A Mission so much. I am just gonna pass it though.
| Piglet seems to be the kind of music you'd like; ://www.sputnikmusic.com/album.php?albumid=45285
| ninjuice How do you spend $25 on an album?
| taylormemer zomg a shout. Yeah, I'm currently reviewing it my friend.
