My favorite album of all time. Blackbird is hard rock perfection. Myles Kennedy's vocals are simply phenomenal throughout, and Mark Tremonti delivers the performance of his career with incredible guitarwork that never once grows boring. The diversity in the album is also a plus: Ties That Bind shows the band at their heaviest and catchiest and is as attention-grabbing as an opening track can get, Rise Today and Before Tomorrow Comes show a more commercial side to the band that nonetheless still rules, Watch Over You is a lovely acoustic ballad, and the 8-minute title track is an emotional journey and epic in every sense of the word (that solo gives me chills every time). Even if you're not a fan of the current style of hard rock, check this out to hear how the genre should be played.

Pretty much all mainstream rock records tend to, well, suck. We're just so lucky most rules have an exception. With Blackbird, Alter Bridge have done away with the criticism that they were a complete Creed-clone, taking a far heavier approach. The record is still home to those big choruses that are perhaps mainstream's biggest trademark, but the songwriting is coherent, catchy, and, as cuts such as Ties That Bind and the title track show, even amazing at some points. Blackbird won't have to be anyone's guilty pleasure, and just maybe you'll even get your mom to like it.

Pne of the better modern hard rock bands. Still, they fall into the trap so much modern rock does. Repetitiveness. There is only so many vocal melodies and repetitions of choruses one can do. Another issue is its length, as it already starts losing speed before climaxing in Blackbird. After that it just goes downhill. Otherwise a solid hard rock album with nice metallic riffs.

Alter Bridge doesn't break through their Creed label with Blackbird, they explode through it. Myles Kennedy's voice soars beautifully throughout as Mark Tremonti absolutely shreds in every track. Well & truly leaving behind the Creed legacy, Alter Bridge forge forward on their 2nd LP 'Blackbird'. Continuing to play an aggressive form of hard-rock, the real strength of this Michael Baskette produced album is how much melody is incorporated into it. Mark Tremonti's driving riffs & exciting solos again stand out, but there is a sense of stronger song-writing from a cohesive band here... Especially on opener 'Ties That Bind' & the 8 minute title track. It may be a little overlong, but that doesn't stop 'Blackbird' from being a superb release & AOTY contender! Recommended Tracks: Ties That Bind, Blackbird, Come to Life, Before Tomorrow Comes & Break Me Down.

Blackbird is THE album that got me into music. While my 5 may not be musically justifiable (a few filler tracks, blahblahblah), the sentimental value of the record to me more than makes up for it.

I'd like to comment that this band is by far my favorite. Any other band, I listen to a song or two, and I like those songs. But, with this band, every song keeps me involved with it. From "Watch Over You", to the epic "Blackbird", to the heavier "Ties That Bind", I can't stop the song in the middle of the track. I'm never bored with any song from this band.
I do admit, there were aspects to the first album that didn't completely distant Alter Bridge from Creed, but on "Blackbird", they've done that. Excellent job by the reviewer.

This is one of the few post-grunge albums of the 00's decade to come close to being a 4.5/5 in my ears - wow! I think I hear some latent King's X Dogman influences in this album. The big difference though w/ this album would have to be that the vocal range is CLEARLY superior. Now onto a tangent: how THIS album doesn't have a better average rating compared to Hurt's Vol II album is insanity! THAT album is easily their 2nd best album, and that still blows by comparison to this album! (12/7/16) After more consideration, this album likely IS one of the best 00's (post-)grunge albums. Thus, earning the right to be a near-classic of grunge.

A great album overall, "Blackbird" showcases the impressive technical skills that each talented
band member brings to the table. Catchy songs, heavy riffs, excellent drumming, shredding solos;
all of these are present. The biggest problem I have with this album, however, is that no matter
how fluid and well-phrased the lyrics are, they're still built around the same old hard rock
cliches. After listening to the usual "what have I become?", "I'm breaking free", "rise up and
make a change", etc. along with plenty of extremely predictable rhymes to boot, it gets a little
monotonous. Of course, there are exceptions, and these songs (namely "White Knuckles", "One By
One", and the title track) along with the precise musicianship make up for some of the more boring
lyrics.

Truth is the only downside to be found in a album like Blackbird is the recurrence in the songs' structure; put this aside and you'll have one of the most solid, flawless hard rock albums of the last decade.

There's a fine rock spirit and remarkable performances by Kennedy and Tremonti - the whole band does great, really - but Blackbird is far too long for the palette it really has to offer. Chord progressions and song structures repeat themselves until the songs just turn into white noise and blend into one another, making Blackbird a chore to hear all the way through. The album's highest point is clearly the title track, but a Stairway to Heaven (like many legions of breathless fans will claim) it really ain't.

Just what one can expect and want from thier hard rock. Soaring catchy choruses, fun solos, good musicianship and not too many ballads. Some tracks are stronger than others, and at the end of the day, it could be trimmed, but the first 5 tracks alone are worth your time, and blackbird is a soaring epic. All in all a great hard rock record with a lot to offer
