To me, this is the most you could ever ask for from this band. This album is immense, decadent, and dark. It's also the most original this band has ever sounded, with majestic pacing and flow, masterful production and lush songwriting. This band has never sounded so confident, and with that, it deeply rewards and demands further revisits. Superb.

Alright, so: Banefyre suckz because of a lame-ass intro and an excessive runtime. However, Banefyre doesn't suck because Crippled Black Phoenix don't suck. Simple as that. Still, I already OD'd on post-rock the past decade, and tracks like "Rose of Jericho" sure don't help my sobriety. Definitely good shit, but that doesn't mark me as much as it could have been if it was released back then. Also not convinced with the vocalist.

ambitious, haunting post-punk-laden emotional, dynamic brilliance... I loved this band already... but this seals the deal of goin up 1 maybe 2 notches in my perpetual nerd-outing pantheon of legendary bands/artists (yes, ridiculously pretentious... but complaining about humility-damning pretense is pretentious in itself, I'd think... if I could think! back to the prescription bottle drawing board!)rdespite the lengthy runtime - it doesn't feel bloated, contrived, overindulgent, any of that... and reveals like, more layers as a great 'grower' album should (my fav album of all time Bungle's Disco Volante was very much a grower even though I was onboard anyway.. speaking of anyway - anyway!...... [obligatory ellipsis abuse]) - layers as in, not 47 hits of acid stuck goin "THE LAYERS BRO, THE LAYERS ARE SWALLOWING MY VERY SOUL!!" o_O - layers as in, realizations only possible by givin it subsequent spins while in varying mindsets...rif this doesn't go platinum I'll find critics n flatten 'em. no, that did NOT rhyme what are you saying - I meant the Sanskrit pronunciations for that declaratory phrase. which is only 1 syllable. declaratory's a word? sputznikk didn't underline it... UR SLIPPIN GUYzzrtryharding at its best? c'mon prnzo give it a rest. NO IT DID NOT

Oof this one'll have to be revisited again and again. Filled to the brim with great tracks waiting
to be further unpacked, with swirling melodies constantly pleasing your ears. Another winner for
CBP, and that's not even surprising by now.

Nobody does brooding melancholic rock quite like CBP. Have generally not been a fan of Belinda Kordic's vocals in the past, but they fit the mood here perfectly. As usual there are some ups and downs across the length of the album but the great outweighs the good and middling here easily.
