3.0 good | Thor | January 15th 10 | Arsis completely change from their previous outing, We Are the Nightmare. Instead of a more flashy and technical approach that their last album took, Starve For the Devil focuses more on thrash/80's metal influences and more hooks than ever previously presented in an Arsis record. Mike Van Dyne delivers his best drum performance to date, giving Arsis a sense of rejuvination and drive. James consistently slays the fretboard, which has become the norm for followers of the band. Hell, you'll even hear a bass solo in "Closer To Cold". Check out "A March For the Sick", "From Soulless to Shattered (Art In Dying)", and "Closer To Cold" for some of the most solid metal I've heard in a while.

3.0 good | Rabdurian | February 16th 10 | To be honest, this album disappointed me. I've gotten used to the extreme technicality of Arsis's earlier material, and this album throws all that out the window in favor of a classic rock mixed with death metal sound. Still an entertaining listen though

3.5 great | keyserfunk | February 15th 10 | Outside of the painful opening track (WTF?), Arsis really moved in the right direction on this release. Really kick ass rhythm and lead guitar work throughout. Not sure where all this negativity is coming from -- I sense an agenda -- no wait, a conspiracy.

0.0 | Phrike | February 10th 10 | "Disease reborn" this is not. Nor is it "full of emptiness". The melody and the amount of catchy hooks has increased and there's a bit of thrash injected into it as well, but I just can't get past the fact that this route simply doesn't suit them. The technicality has been toned down significantly, but that's not a positive. C'mon, were they ever so technical to the point of wankery? One listen to the song A Diamond For Disease will answer this question easily.

2.5 average | Progmaster85 | January 25th 10 | The new release from tech/death band Arsis, is not a total failure by any means, but a step back nonetheless. What ever happened to the uncontested brutality of their first two efforts, where has the originality gone? On this record, it seems that Arsis is attempting to draw from it's influences a bit too much, instead of being a tech death metal band that they once were, they are now a technical thrash band that sounds like Megadeth with unclean vocals. I enjoyed some of this record indefinitely, but it is still a step back for Arsis, they lost their edge. The bright side is that while the solos and high-neck leads are placed in cliche thrash areas of each track, the guitar work and harmonies are still pretty fucking cool, which one would expect with Arsis. For a fan of 80's thrash or bands like Shadows Fall or Children of Bodom, this album may impress, but for fans of the old Arsis, you will walk away slightly irritated by the lack of originality and brutality.

3.0 good | asdemonsburn | January 15th 10 | Arsis gets more accessable, Arsis becomes thrashier, Arsis likes to shred, Arsis uses old song titles in their lyrics. I'd say Arsis is a pretty cool guy but We Are the Nightmare this is not. Malone remains awesome, but without Cesca and Knight, this album falls short of being memorable and will probably get lost in the sea of future 2010 metal albums sure to rule.
