THE BEST ADVICE I CAN GIVE IS IF YOU DON'T DIGEST IT WELL ON YOUR FIRST LISTEN, GIVE IT A FEW MORE rTRIES. I am sure there will be songs that will at least keep people's attention but some may not rbecause some of the songs on this album will be polarizing. But the polarizing ones are some of rthe best ones if you give them time. I didn't like Yen when they first released it but it grew on rme so much. I went in with low expectations so this caught me by surprise. It stands up to WANYK rimo. Some songs are a breath of fresh air and some are stagnant, run of the mill Slipknot. About rhalf the album is killer, 1/4 of it is good, and the other 1/4 is like lazy, reused, or uninspired rshit. Considering how old these guys are and the fact that they no longer have 2 of the major rdriving factors and song writing contributors in Joey and Paul, I'm impressed they were able to rput an album together this well. Following up WANYK for these guys isn't an easy feat it would rseem, but I think they've at least matched the level. V-Man's bass and Jay's drums are obviously rthe highlights of the album for the most part. There are some killers solos and riffage too but in rthe context of Slipknot, doesn't stand out as much. There is use of piano now and then which I'm a rfan of. And other surprises I won't spoil. Nothing crazy, just different for the 9. A decent album but not what I was expecting with all of Clown's hype. Experimental which is alright by me, but not what I was hoping for. Still, Slipknot, so you gotta love it.

Hard band goes softy, and when they try to rock hard, it's with the same riffs, drum patterns, and vocal delivery. Mid. And boring too. But hey at least they got to middle finger the industry, woo!

Lyrics are the worst they've ever been, with some really silly phrasing. Almost every kick-in is like the version they do because they don't feel like doing it the way that works best anymore ("I know this works, but let's try it the other way"). Pretty damn tired compared to the last two albums. The whole thing feels like they figured out prog music is actually really good since Jay joined and they decided to turn into a prog band to make up for their core sound not getting enough creative juices going to hit the mark on aggression. I do recommend taking Corey's advice and buying brand new instead of the "same old thing" you'd get from a Slipknot album when they had more metal than butt prog on it. I mean... it's not bad as a whole, but those solos are really pulling a lot of the weight instead of the riffs. Maybe 3 songs on here I can appreciate front to back. Yen feels musically like a weaker take on Vermilion. De Sade takes from tracks like Prosthetics and Killpop, and despite being a stronger track on the album, still leans into dramatic, theatrical delivery moreso than the creepier qualities that are clear staples of their more artistically effective cuts. Overall, this feels too much like a swan song, if they don't stop after this, I'm gonna start drawing Logic comparisons.

The best part of about this album is that it gives Slipknot an excuse to hit the road for some major touring. Honestly, that?s all I personally really need from new Slipknot releases.

A mostly overproduced album (chorus, solo guitar) that combines the best of slipknot
(old-Swans influences) with the cringiest (choruses).
Choruses are boring and dull.
Structure is bittersweet all the way through.
The Dying Song's the worst; H377 song is good.

I can appreciate how this sounds like it is trying to ?reinvent the wheel? in terms of what a Slipknot album is typically like, but WANYK did it already and substantially better. There are great MOMENTS on this album, not songs if that makes sense. Perhaps it will grow on me but I?m underwhelmed by this one at the moment. Still love Slipknot though.
