Generally, when pop artists become absolute megastars, the album that's propelled them there is a pretty good one. Think Off The Wall, or Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, or even Justified if Justin Trousersnake can be considered a megastar. Alas, it's not the case here - it's easy to believe that not even the tiniest effort was put into any song here that wasn't released as a single. "E-Mail My Heart" has even achieved notoriety as one of the worst songs of all time, and rightfully so. Everything else on the second half of this album is lazy and trite as anything you're ever likely to hear. In fairness, the singles were pretty great, including even the lesser-known ones like "Born To Make You Happy", but they're available on her greatest hits. So, ya know.....don't waste your time.

Not terrible, never properly annoying, but also has few tracks that actually work. 1 is the best track here and honestly a very strong way of starting off a pop discog given how cult it is. Just from the cult factor it is incredibly fun, don't lie. But come 2 which is far less popular, you realise that it all sounds quite outdated. It's a sort of fun track but the chorus is boring. 4 is funny in a bad way, it sounds like a compilation of island music cliches made for a Scooby Doo OST. To be fair there is a lot going on which is cool, but the chorus is just childish. 5 is a nice pop track, but just nice. 7 is a kinda fun 00's track for kids. 9 is actually a fun track with an ok chorus, kinda jammy. For the rest of it, this is populated by bland pop songs at various degrees of outdatedness and cheesiness, and even blander romantic prom ballad songs that never quite work, especially 8 with the male guest vox making it incredibly cheesy. 11 is perhaps the one that works the best in that style. 12 is just a weird conclusion. This stays in 2.5 territory thanks to 1 and the hints of good stuff present here and there. 2.3

One of the more shameless and embarassing 5 star albums I have. I'm not a fan of Britney Spears, but every track on this album is everything I like about plastic saturated radio teen pop music. And I don't like a whole lot about the genre. This is perfect

Hard to believe I was almost at the age of 3 when recording artist Britney Spears' debut album was first released; boy, time flies when you intentionally forget about all those early teen pop sensations - who have since shed those friendly images or whatever. The title track is admittedly the only likable song on here, though in regards to Britney herself, that probably doesn't say very much about the rest of the material. There's barely any heart nor surprising maturity to be found throughout the record, and after sitting your precocious child down just for him or her to hear this, you'd wish you could ask them to hit you one more time.

I've heard some Britney Spears songs on YouTube and then said to myself: Why not? But..when I took time to listen to whole album..I KNOW why not. Because it's incredibly boring collection of steril radio-friendly songs with nothing that could interest me. The only reason why I rated the album so high is that it's still catchy.. if you are interested in her, listen to good electro-pop 'In the Zone' and 'Blackout', because they're at least even catchier than this and not so...boring.
There still is a possibility that this is going better in the second half, but I didn't find power to continue in myself.
