Another good-but-not-great (despite the rating nomenclature) effort which ultimately serves as a reminder that Winter's Gate is, and likely will remain, the band's creative zenith.		3.5

Carpenter Brut Leather Terror
You can count the number of worthwhile synthwave artists on one hand with fingers to spare. CB is one of them but this album lacks the fun cheese of Leather Teeth and what at the time felt fresh and evocative in the early EPs, none of which is compensated for with an overabundance of underwhelming guest vocalists (though I do like the Persha and Tribulation guy spots), despite the back half having some solid cuts. 		2.5

Pedro the Lion Havasu
For everything it might not do better or differently than its predecessor(s) regarding instrumentation and composition, Havasu, at the very least, shows the continued evolution of Bazan as a lyricist and provides Pedro The Lion's most humorous moment in the form a Beverly Hills Cop reference on "First Drum Set".		3.5

If you like 60s/70s film scores, jazz/funk/folk backed by lush orchestral arrangements, or really just David Axelrod, this is a must-listen. My favorite album of 2021.		4.5

Tower Shock to the System
At the junction of 70s hard rock and 80s NWOBHM, Linden's insane pipes emerge as a force of nature, ultimately stealing the show here. 		4.0
