Alexisonfire Watch Out!
Alexisonfire Crisis
Alexisonfire Otherness
With each album, Alexisonfire took a step forward, evolving their sound and growing what the band could be. The 3 songs they put out around 2019/2020 (Familiar Drugs, Complicit, and Season of the Flood) felt like the natural next step. If those would have been the style and sound the band adopted for an entire album I would have been entirely happy.rInstead, after 13 years away, Alexisonfire has returned with one of the most daring comebacks I've ever witnessed. They torn down everything the bad "could be" and started over! It's like they took a few steps back, pulling from their old work, without ever feeling like they are repeating ideas. Then they also took 20 steps forward, creating a bold and mature album that feels like a band breaking free and becoming everything they were meant to be!rThis album in an absolute trip! No two songs are alike. It took a while to get used to the full, echoey, "live" production style. But I had already gotten accustomed to it by cycling the singles ahead of the release. So I was fully into this new approach. I thought there were a few weak songs on the first listen. After the 2nd and 3rd (because this album practically *insists* on a relisten) it all really started to click! There is something to love about every song.rOtherness absolute cements Alexisonfire's legacy, not just as inimitable post-hardcore stars, but as absolute legends!

It makes a lot of sense why they chose Be One To No One as the lead single. That's the best entry point based on what AWS has done before. But be prepared for this album to surprise you consistently, and try out totally new things!rThis sounds like an album made by a group of guys who love each other, and love making music together. And hearing that in every single song is really wonderful!rBig Nasty is an immediate stand out. It's 2:15 and manages to transition through like 8 distinct sounds to create a WILD listening experience

This is now my favourite Ghost album. I enjoyed all the spooky mystique from their early days. But this new emo 80s hair metal vibe, with their own unique twists, made for an incredibly fun listen. Every song experiments in some small way, there are plenty of twists and cheeky moments throughout. This album is an evolution of their sound I can get behind, and I hope they continue to change and grow!

Not everything here lands. But they took some BIG swings on this album. They even somehow made the "raw" live feel of the last few albums work much better here. Great to see this ban re-energized and trying new things! This some of their best work since the self-titled album in 2010.

While I'll miss their old sound and energy, this
does feel fresh. Acid Lord alone felt try-hardy.
But the full album really made things click. And
the pops of their old sound are a delight, while
mixing things up non-stop. I think this album may
have some of their all time best songs? Water by
the Beer Can. Euro Coke. Those songs are great!
I'll need to give this one a few more listens.

It's pretty good for what it is. I like that they found a way to still make some light screaming work in this more mainstream sound. But at the end of the day, it's still pretty generic cornball rock.

A massive departure from their previous work. It's way more pop-oriented. And while they are clearly having fun with it, I feel like so much of it doesn't work.

Am I crazy, or is this album SUPER boring? I think there are some good ideas here. But it was recorded and mixed in a way that sounds like they were trying to avoid waking up their sleeping grandma 1 room over. I think they were going for understated, and it just came out dull.
