4.5 superb
Animals As Leaders The Madness of Many
Im not a prog metal fan and I don't like instrumental music but these guys are just genius. All the songs sound
different. There are some songs that sound like they come from outer space due the really low slap parts and complex
rhythms. There are also songs that are more melodic kind of like Chon but still add those djenty animals as leaders
signature sound and obviously the jazz sounding brain dance. Even the song titles sound complex and I wouldn't be
surprised if a sci fi film would use their music in the soundtrack since it would definitely fit. This is a band that definitely
shows the infinite possibilities of music and they definitely bring an image in your head when listening. In my case, that
image is of an outer planet with some robots battling each other.

Into It. Over It. Standards
Into It Over it release an album more musically sophisticated than their older releases. Drum grooves more dynamic and
creative than ever, guitar work smoother than ever and an overall relaxing vibe that makes the listener sink into the
music until it stops playing and the listener begs for more.
Issues Issues
Issues Headspace
Best I've seen in metal core in a long time. They're redefining the genre by combining rnb, hip hop, funk, djent, jazz,
soul and even more. There are lots of good individual songs and they also flow together really well. They showed that
musically they're a cut above everyone in the metal core genre by miles and Issues could be a gateway band for pop
fans to get into the metal core genre
Landscapes Modern Earth
Sunrise Skater Kids Friendville
Clever jokes and a wide variety of pop punk styles shown in this album. I especially like the fact that "The catchy one" actually becomes catchier after every listen and "rain on my parade" makes fun of jason lancaster's accent in words like "heart" as well as the feminist jokes in "trigger warning". Only fault of the album was that there were too much easy core songs which doesn't represent a lot of the pop punk scene but overall it's just a small error.
The Dear Hunter Act IV: Rebirth in Reprise
The Front Bottoms Back On Top
The band truly excels in this album by spicing up their arrangements by adding newer instruments and more distortion guitar whilst still retaining the raw emotion placed in their past albums. The songs are catchier and this album is a true step for the band to get bigger in the indie rock circuit. Older fans who like the acoustic guitar thing might stray away from this one due to the more polished production but open minded fans who are willing to accept change will come to enjoy this.
The Get Up Kids Something to Write Home About
The Hotelier Home, Like NoPlace Is There
The Weakerthans Left and Leaving
The Wonder Years Suburbia I've Given You All and Now I'm Nothing
The Wonder Years No Closer to Heaven
The Wonder Years release an album more emotional than the last with great lyrical content and more complex song
structures. The maturity in this album then again separates them from their peers making them the kings of pop punk.
A flaw with this album is that there are just some tracks that aren't good at all. But the strong tracks in the album make
up for it. That's the only reason why it's not a perfect score
The Wonder Years Sister Cities
Holy fuck this album was so good. I mean, the last song "The Ocean Grew Hands To Hold Me" could possibly be their best track ever. The emotions, the arrangement, the lyricism, all done so well. Some tracks felt short like "When the Blue finally came" and there isn't really as much strong fast songs compared to their discography but the overall cohesiveness of the album as well as the musicality makes this probably their best sounding record.
Trophy Eyes Everything Goes Away
Trophy Eyes Chemical Miracle
Speechless... after listening to so many underwhelming pop punk releases this year, this band just blows me away. I loved their past releases that had a really hardcore edge but this one combines so much other elements to that hardcore edge. They meshed some grunge revival, 90's alt rock, pop punk, and hardcore to this record. The way floreani sings and the versatility of all the songs in the album show how musically talented these guys are and I hope that they become the biggest thing in pop punk this year. Neck deep is good but they don't innovate. I need innovation to trump so that bands will keep pushing to get the next great sound rather than copying for the sake of selling music.

4.0 excellent
Architects All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us
Born of Osiris Soul Sphere
Boston Manor Welcome to the Neighbourhood
Album has an awesome aesthetic. Boston Manor did the alt rock approach in this one and were still able to incorporate their pop punk/emo roots in order to make a record that helps them stand out amongst their pop punk peers. This album uses more minor than major keys and this truly helps them sound so dark and the production is really good. I'm definitely gonna listen to this a lot. Standout tracks for me are "England's Dreaming", "Welcome to the Neighborhood", "The Day I Ruined Your Life", and "Flowers in your Dustbin"
Crystal Lake The Sign
In a year with underwhelming metal core albums, only a few were able to actually do what they're supposed to do. Come up with catchy tracks that you wanna headbang to. This is one of those bands and every track on the album just makes you want to cause a moshpit and hardcore dance your way around a room. The vocalist has a really powerful voice and the drum and guitar lines are spot on. I look forward to more of this band
Forever Came Calling What Matters Most
Foxing Nearer My God
Wow... this album is art. Period. Many of the song ideas here show moments of melody, dissonance, and the usage of
unconventional instrumentation for some songs. Examples of those are the "classical esque string playing" in the song
heartbeats which has a more EDM based beat as well as the bagpipes in Bastardizer which I never heard in an indie
rock/alt rock song before. IDK there probably are bagpipes in those genres but I just don't know anyone who used them.
The guitar solo in Lich prince is something I never heard from their guitar playing before. It was a shredfest which took me
by surprise but in a good way. Point being, this album explores so much sonically that you got to admire the band. One
fault with the album is that there's a dragging moment with the song "five cups" and I'm not sure that I'll replay most of the
songs due to the artistic value sometimes not allowing me to listen to the song multiple times. I will probably replay at least
4-5 of these songs.
Hotel Books Run Wild, Stay Alive
Ice Nine Kills Every Trick in the Book
Jarrod Alonge Beating a Dead Horse
Light Years I'll See You When I See You
Mayday Parade Black Lines
Definitely stepping up their game instrumentally and moving towards a sound with lots of influences from Brand New whilst still maintaining their touch. The ballads in this album aren't as strong as in the past but it's just a minor fault and overall most of the songs are good. This album is 2nd best to A Lesson in Romantics and it's a strong effort from the band
Modern Baseball Holy Ghost
Mom Jeans. Puppy Love
Wow, this is one of my favorite things I've heard this year. I love their non serious approach to the emo genre and there were so many good musical moments in this album. My favorite song in particular is "You Can't Eat Cats, Kevin". This band just feels pure like they're not trying to prove anything or make a statement. I can't wait for their future releases and see how they evolve.
Movements Outgrown Things
Citizen with spoken word vocals. Pretty interesting sound and a good find for fearless records
Neck Deep Life's Not Out To Get You
Neck deep transforms from a TSSF copycat to a band that finally found its sound. With a more melodic sound
reminiscent of the early 2000's pop punk and song topics that aren't about breakups, this band realises that it's meant
to pump up a crowd whist also talking about journeys and starting from the bottom.
Petal Shame
Pierce the Veil Misadventures
PVRIS White Noise
Not into electronic/pop music but these guys have an edge that makes the songs really good
Seaway Hoser
Catchy tracks and awesome instrumentals that emphasises fun in a genre where serious and "troo" emotions are taking over
Seaway Colour Blind
Where state champs fails, seaway succeeds. I already knew the potential these guys had in their past records and always felt like they were too underrated. These guys come up with some of the catchiest instrumentals in the genre and keep pop punk fun whilst adding creativity as well. This album also features more slower tempo songs compared to their past stuff showing their diversity as well
Somos First Day Back
Speak Low If You Speak Love Everything But What You Need
State Champs Bassist should be lead guitarist for state champs. He has creative lines and makes really emotional songs. Something that would make state champs into an even better band than they are in my opinion
The Story So Far What You Don't See
The Story So Far Proper Dose
After listening to the album a good amount of times. I actually like it more than when I first started.
A lot of the songs grew on me. Ironically "Growing on you" is my favorite track, "Light Year" is also
really good, "Proper Dose", and "Need to Know" really stand out. The singles were also really good
just because they show a different pace and sound for them. The production is so good here. That
hazy feeling they wanted to emit shows in certain decisions. When they add the ambience on the
guitars and even the overproduced vocals, it gives the feeling of drifting into another world. I think
they achieved what they wanted to achieve with this album and I went from giving this a 3.5 to a 4.
The Wonder Years The Upsides
Transit Listen and Forgive
Trash Boat Nothing I Write You Will Change What You've Been Through
Trash Boat Crown Shyness
I was definitely surprised by this release. The last record was alright but this one really took a step
forward. They unleashed their hardcore elements more here and yet they also had their most
emotional songs in this one as well. They could've taken some of those double timed sections out
but that's more of a minor issue. There wasn't a bad song and a song like "Undermine" is one of
the best pop punk ones done this year. I think that song took over strangers as their new
"anthem". The lyrics in this album are pretty good and overall I was pleased.
Trophy Eyes Mend, Move On
Trophy Eyes The American Dream
It's a great album. There are so many moments on here that are very well arranged and produced. As an older fan of the band there were certain moments that were hard to adjust to but as I listened more, they grew on me. But there also were songs that hit hard right away. Examples of those are "Something Bigger than This", "Miming the Choir", "I can Feel It Calling" which is Trophy Eyes's best arranged song ever, and "Tip Toe". I think a fault with the album was the fact that some songs have both good and "meh" moments in them which can sometimes be a turnoff since I want to hear a song sound consistent all throughout. However, the really good moments are really good and that's what brought it to a 4.
Violent Soho WACO

3.5 great
Chelsea Grin Eternal Nightmare
I can understand why a deathcore fan won't like this. I'm more a metalcore guy and the album was so well produced. The mix was flawless and everything sounds huge but clear at the same time. I think in terms of production and mixing, this is probably the best I've heard this year.
Four Year Strong Four Year Strong
Homesafe One
good album. I couldn't find much flaws with it but yea, not too much replay value or strong songs. There aren't any glaring weaknesses but it also doesn't stand out at all.
Knuckle Puck Copacetic
Definitely better instrumentation and lyrics from their previous material. The band had many elements from the Story So Far in their previous material thus not making them stand out. However, this album truly showed me that the band has so much more and can make a mark whilst showing an original sound
Makari Hyperreal
Lots of vibe worthy songs here. The ambient sounds of the guitars, the technical proficiency in
many of the guitar lines, and the melodic/catchy nature of the songs give the band a unique
sound. Many bands with technical ability such as this don't have the catchiness this band has.
With that said, the album feels like just a bunch of songs strung together without any purpose
whatsover. Control was the closer and when I first heard that song, I didn't ever think that would
close an album. I understand that they're a young band and want to make a mark so putting out
good songs whether they fit together or not in order to captivate an audience is a good way to put
your foot in the door. For their next release, they should find a way to evoke a theme and make the
songs feel like they're part of a purpose
Man Overboard Heavy Love
Pretty solid album. Man Overboard had good instrumentals on this one and had a bit of an old school sound in some songs like She's in pictures and Now that you're home. It's a nice vibe and I think this really suits them well. However, the major thing that isn't elevating them is the lyric writing which is still corny as always
ROAM Backbone
Not innovative but Good, fun pop punk. This album makes heads bang for sure.
The Story So Far The Story So Far

3.0 good
Belmont Belmont
The album was alright. It had its moments of potential. The guitar playing is so good and that can
easily separate the band from its peers. The problem is that the vocals don't vary much in the
album. It sounds like Joe Taylor from Knuckle puck all throughout and there also isn't too much
variety in the songs. The instrumentation is really good but at a certain point, you got to touch the
emotions of the listener and this album doesn't do that.
blink-182 California
Ice Nine Kills The Silver Scream
The album's really good songs are really good and the ones that aren't that good fall short. There were tons of creative moments in the album and there were moments that made you feel like "why they did they do that?" There were some songs that had awesome moments combined with generic ones. Like the song "rocking the boat" had that jaws hook near the end of the song and even the instrumental changed speeds at that point which was such a good desicion but the portions before that part were just "meh". This album had potential but it didn't live up to it.
Real Friends The Home Inside My Head
meh.... i really don't know how these guys are more popular than many better bands in the same scene. Their songwriting is bland. None of the songs are memorable and they haven't shown too much progression from their past releases. Some songs were pretty good in the album like "Mokena", "Eastwick" and "colder quicker" but the rest were just "meh". Honestly I rarely give 3's to any pop punk group since I'm really biased towards the genre but this release is just really stale and especially bad for a band considered to be "Good"
Real Friends Composure
State Champs Around the World and Back
After a stellar debut album "The Finer Things", State Champs release an album with hooks and some great moments. Songs "secrets", "All you are is history", and "Shape Up" are anthems that will easily pump up crowds in concerts and cause one to just eat pizza and enjoy the music. However, aside from these large tracks, the rest seem to lose that creative edge that State Champs had in the past album. The songs aren't bad. They're solid tracks but not ones to remember. It feels like lots of the tracks were made for the band to gain mainstream attention and because of this, the instrumental creativity and attitude seemed to have gotten lost. If you're into poppy and catchy hooks, the band will be for you but if you want something more, I don't think the album is worth it.

2.5 average
Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! Get Lost, Find Yourself
After hearing the singles I thought that this album would be really good but lots of the other songs sound stale and
didn't go on par with my expectations. There are other bands in this genre that are better yet more underrated such as
City Lights and Me vs Hero but sadly they aren't around anymore due to money issues I think... sucks...side note- Jarrod
alonge's take it easycore is better than any song in the album.
Simple Plan Taking One for the Team
Sounded promising in the beginning with some good fun pop punk but tracks got worse later on thus making the album nothing special
State Champs Living Proof
Terrible album. John Feldman ruined their sound and many songs here are just forgettable. I like the song "Crystal Ball" but the other tracks are forgettable. "Our Time to Go" is solid as well but I'm just not feeling this one.
