A direct precursor to the nightmarish opus that would come 2 years later, it admittedly suffers from a homogeneity and repetitiveness that its predecessor managed to eschew. Nonetheless tMBoR is a worthy addition to an incredibly unique discography. |

I can say with complete confidence that this is one of the heaviest things ever recorded.
The combination of the dissonant guitar lead with the devastatingly heavy chords and
ungodly deep growls (bolstered by the thunderous production) makes for a pretty
overwhelming listen, which thankfully is exactly what most seek from doom metal. It's
also got a somewhat hypnotic quality to it in my opinion, which becomes a little more
evident when listening through headphones.
However at a runtime of 73 minutes and with virtually no deviation from the
aforementioned formula plus the fact that is crawls at an absolute snails pace, I can
see how many would become disengaged after the first couple of tracks. Whether that's a
token to how oppressive the album is or whether its due to over simplistic and lazy
songwriting could be argued either way.
Ultimately this release is worth checking out for any fan of funeral doom (or extremely
heavy music in general) or fall all those who think they'd enjoy being sonically
bludgeoned into submission for 73 minutes straight with no respite. |

their craft.. unfortunately their craft just doesn't happen to be very original.
Nevertheless this
release - which soundwise is essentially a continuation of their previous offering -
provides 55
minutes of lush, almost ethereal soundscapes and soaring crescendos. Bolstered by a clear
and
dynamic production, the album is equally as effective
background music as it is an actively engaging slab of post-rock. Its a 4 from me folks |

A cacophonous blend of deathgrind, sludge, punk and even black metal, 'Decline' sonically
bludgeons the listener for 23 straight minutes with no respite or remorse. While that
runtime seems fairly short for an LP it's quite an apt length for an album this pummeling
and potent. Though it brings nothing particularly new to to the table and is essentially
a continuation of the trio's 2014 EP , it is executed to near perfection and is difficult
to fault . So whether you're seeking to clear a room of people, push through your final
reps in a workout or you're chasing musical catharsis, this album delivers in every
sense. Not
everyone's cup of tea but it works for me. |
