Clearly influenced by old school death metal, but aren't afraid to showcase the more melodic side that other bands choose to ignore for dissonance nowadays. Clocking in at a short 26 minutes, they've got great energy for mid tempo death metal, can't wait for a full length in the future. |

How can this album not be good with the most metal names like "Razor Hoof" and "Hung, Drawn, and Quartered?" |

Immolation Unholy Cult |

Joe McMahon Another Life |
Frontman of punk band Smoke or Fire, Joe McMahon made a solo record about depressing topics like an inability to fully love someone and facing demons, set to upbeat music. He uses the the same formula for much of the album, but it's a great formula. |

The Lawrence Arms We Are the Champions of the World |
Any list of Larry Limbs songs won't ever
contain a complete list of my favorites (The
Dancing Robot and Necrotisicm are missing from
this comp, for instance). Despite this, there
are many more great songs than bad included,
and this is a great starter comp for anyone
looking to get into the band without knowing
where to start. Rarity songs are also really
great, and remind me of how great these guys
have always been when it comes to their b side
material. "I'm searching for an anchor in this
empty night." Indeed we all are. |
The Menzingers After the Party |
The Methadones Not Economically Viable |
The Ominous Circle Appalling Ascension |
Blackened death metal with riffs influenced by Incantation. First track might be too long as an intro but the rest of the album keeps the dark and brooding atmosphere, with solos that sound like they're ripping through another dimension. One of their song titles, "Poison Fumes," is the imagery I'd associate with the whole album. |
Tiny Little Houses You Tore Out My Heart |
Uada Devoid of Light |
This album makes me wish that melodic black metal/death metal still existed without the cheesiness. There's a 90's influence apparent from bands like A Canorous Quintet and Sacramentum that has a mesmerizing effect on you, and best for listening at night. Tons of melodic riffs in every song, each well-thought out enough to evoke emotions of sorrow and regret. |
