Easily the worst FOB album I've heard yet. As a whole, MANIA is a complete clusterfuck
when it comes to song ideas. For example, there's a Trap influence on Young and Menace,
Gospel influence on Church/Heaven's Gate, and they even dabble in Reggae on the song
Sunshine Riptide. Despite the fact that FOB experiments with a lot of genres on this
record, most of the songs have a very similar repetitious pop formula to them. Because of
this, it makes the songs feel very generic. It's almost like I'm listening to an emo-
version of present-day Maroon 5. Also, Patrick's vocals are so over-produced on MANIA that
it gives me a headache. He doesn't need to sound this synthetic. Patrick is a very
talented vocalist. Finally, the lyrics on this album range from sub-par to downright
awful. Especially on the track Royal Milk Tea. "Are you smelling this shit" is easily the
worst lyric I've ever heard from FOB. There are a couple of songs that I thought were ok,
such as The Last of The Real Ones, Wilson, and Bishops Knife trick, but that's about it. I
hope FOB takes this album to the grave. |
