Strap in and hang on tight, cuz this one's gonna rip your head off and sh*t down your throat. Goin' hard in the paint, son!
Gaerea Unsettling Whispers
Panzerfaust The Suns of Perdition - Chapter II
Slowbleed The Blazing Sun, A Fiery Dawn
Goddamn! The whole album could be a YouTube "Try Not to Headbang Challenge" video. Excellently crafted songs. Brutal drums and riffs for days. Don't sleep on this album!
Worm Foreverglade
Wow. The brutality, riffs, atmosphere, solos and song composition are topnotch. I wish "Subaqueous Funeral" was 10 minutes long. Love that song, but all of the songs are bangers. This is definitely a strong contender for AOTY for me!
Yoth Iria As The Flame Withers

4.0 excellent
200 Stab Wounds Slave to the Scalpel
A brutally fun listen that's chock-full of tasty riffs.

This album really surprised me. From the band name to the slightly cheesy album cover, I wasn't expecting to be entertained with some excellent death metal. There's some very tasty riffs throughout the whole album.
Cytotoxin Nuklearth
Musicianship is really good. The thing holding it back, for me, is the vocals. I wish they were a little more acrobatic. Just a small preference, though.

Draconian Under a Godless Veil

Lik Misanthropic Breed
Some great Swedish DM that needs to be heard. Go listen, now!
Lorna Shore Immortal
Marrasmieli Martaiden mailta
I'm not one for folk black metal, but this isn't like the other stuff I've heard from that genre. The synths, guitars and folk instruments elevate the atmosphere to something awe-inspiring. Because of such strong songwriting, it feels like you've travelled a complete journey by the album's end.
Mayhem De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas
Mental Cruelty A Hill to Die Upon
Mephorash Shem Ha Mephorash
Mork Katedralen
Really solid album that kept me engaged the whole time. There's just enough twists and gems to make your head bob or prick your ears up. Wasn't expecting to give this a 4.0 going into it.

A few songs are great, but this album lacks cohesiveness. Riffs, passages and interludes feel pieced together instead of having transitions that flow. It's also a bit of a grab-bag. They flirt with other genres, but like the saying goes, "Jack of all trades, master of none."

After a 5 year layoff, I was expecting them to come out guns blazing. What I got were 10 songs that sound like they have little structure to them. Yeah, Vogg has some good riffs, but riffs are not songs. Also, a very homogeneous sound across the album which makes nothing stand out. Another "safe" death metal album.

Gaerea said that this album was written within 1-2 weeks and it shows. The rage and aggression is on full display, I will give them that, but the album feels half-baked. I feel like the ideas and songs could've been fleshed out better or left to marinate longer (keeping with the cooking theme). The album closer "Laude" is a goddamn masterpiece, though.

I got hoodwinked into listening to a Bro-Core album.
Malist To Mantle the Rising Sun

The songs are somewhat similar, which leads to the album not being memorable at all. Nothing ever caught my ear or attention. I wasn't transported into a certain mood or listening state (as with other BM albums). Didn't connect with this one. Swing and a miss, for me.

Music is straightforward with some hooky riffs sprinkled throughout. What ruins it is the Randy Blythe wannabe vocalist. (A watered down version, at that.)
ERRA ERRA
Periphery and Meshuggah worship definitely going on. This genre has really lost my interest since
2013. Same formula of cramming polyrhythms and 0-0-000-0-0 open string abuse. Along with all the
usual tropes of the genre, I can't help but wonder if this will go the way of Nu-metal. Anyway, I
don't know why I bothered with this album. I'll see myself out.

Immolation Acts of God
I put aside that the name Immolation is on this album, so it wouldn't inflate my rating. Having said that, this album is uninteresting. Everything feels like I've heard it a 1,000 times before. Sure the drumming is phenomenal, but in 2022 most extreme metal bands have this in spades. The riff work is uninspiring and the songwriting is lazy.
Incandescence Le Coeur de l'Homme
This was difficult to rate. The album is good...probably great, but the mixing engineer did a great disservice to the level at which I could enjoy listening to this. The low-end from 70Hz and below is uncontrolled and overpowers the mix. When the blast beats or double kicks come in, that's when things get even worse. Almost all clarity of the other instrumentation is lost. If you're listening to this on low-budget speakers that drop off around 70Hz, consider yourself lucky.
Inferno (CZ) PARADEIGMA (Phosphenes of Aphotic Eternity)
Boring, but a nice album to fall asleep too. At least, that's what it did to me.

If they dropped the predictable breakdowns and leaned more into the Black Metal side of things, this album would be much better.
Ne Obliviscaris Citadel
Necrofier Prophecies of Eternal Darkness
Nihility Beyond Human Concepts
Ninkharsag The Dread March Of Solemn Gods
This is second wave Black Metal worship. They do hardly anything to inject something new or fresh into the standard formula. So, frankly, I'd rather throw on a Dissection album.
Nocturnal Hollow A Whisper of an Horrendous Soul
Onirik The Fire Cult Beyond Eternity

The highs in "Lost" are so goddamn laughable that it's hard to take it serious. Nonessential listening unless you're hard up for some deathcore.

Carnifex Graveside Confessions
The album is monotonous, uninspiring and overstays it's welcome.
Celestial Season The Secret Teachings
Cerebral Rot Excretion Of Mortality
I literally fell asleep after the second song. Had to re-listen after I woke up and realized why I fell asleep. This is some boring a** sh*t.
Chelsea Grin Suffer In Hell
Is the saying true that you can have too much of a good thing? Apparently, so. Chelsea Grin throws
the kitchen sink at this album from start to finish. All of the Deathcore tropes whizz by your
ears in fast succession. The downside is that nothing sticks or becomes memorable. Songwriting has
been traded in for how many "sick" tricks can be thrown at the listener. I blame Lorna Shore's "To
The Hellfire" for creating waves of bands looking for their TikTok moment or generating hundreds
of reaction videos. The future does not look bright.
Chrome Waves The Rain Will Cleanse
Darko (US) Darko
A very generic slab of songs that sink into the ocean of bands in this genre.
Empress Wait 'Til Night
Enslaved Utgard
This album suffers from a disjointed feeling from one song to the other, janky transitions within the songs and an overall flat performance by the band.
Exhumed Worming
Father Befouled Crowned in Veneficum
Fit for an Autopsy Oh What the Future Holds
Will Putney's production skills can't save this album. The songwriting is flat and uninspiring. Joe Badolato's vocals sound strained and one dimensional throughout the entire album.
Fleshbore Embers Gathering
Fluisteraars Bloem
Gatecreeper An Unexpected Reality
Disappointing is all I can say. Feels like they rushed out something just for the sake of having new music out. All of the short songs are forgettable and the closer is great, but not enough to drag this EP above a 2.0 rating.

Mork Dypet
Disappointing. I thoroughly enjoyed their previous album, bought it and listen to it quite often. Dypet is a departure in tonality and style. It's a little more atmospheric and explorative. I have nothing against that style, but Mork doesn't hit the mark as some of the more notable bands already occupying this space. I think that they excel better at aggression and tasty earworm riffs.
Neurotic Machinery A Loathsome Aberration
Noctambulist The Barren Form
Novarupta Carrion Movements
Oceans of Slumber Oceans of Slumber
I don't get the hype surrounding this album. It drags on way too long. Songs are bland. The emotion sounds forced.
Osiah Chronos
Boring, paint-by-numbers deathcore that has little to offer the listener.
Palus Somni Monarch of Dark Matter
Panzerfaust The Suns of Perdition Chapter III
I gave Chapter II a 4.5 and was heavily anticipating this album. Boy, was I disappointed. They shit the bed with too much atmosphere and interludes galore. Hopefully, Chapter IV can be a return to better days.
Paranorm Empyrean
They try to be creative and progressive with their songs, but it just ends up sounding like independent riffs plastered together. The guitar wank-fest also gets annoying (and this is coming from a guitarist).
Qrixkuor Zoetrope
Replicant Malignant Reality

Mostly an album of boring songs that drag on for far too long, leaving a stale feeling overall.
The Silver (US) Ward of Roses

The songwriting on this album is a mess and bordering on incoherent. Big step down from their previous album. Hopefully it's not too late to right the ship and the next one will be better.

Act of Impalement Infernal Ordinance
Crown Magnetar Everything Bleeds
I wish that I could give a separate rating for just the drummer because that's the only thing positive about this album. I have a feeling that in the future we're going to look back on this era of Deathcore the same way that we look back at early 2000's Nu Metal.
Kauan Ice Fleet
Oh, god. Here we go again with the fake

"metal" that I "just don't get". If I want an

Liquid Mind. But don't dick around with
ethereal guitar pedals, synths and hang around
P&W chord voicings, and act like this album is
the second coming of Jesus Christ.
Left to Suffer ON DEATH
Mammoth WVH Mammoth WVH
The godawful album art matches the cringeworthy lyrics. There's some melody hooks during the album, but the riffs get reused in each song and by the second verse, you've heard enough. Don't waste your time or money on this album.
Molested Divinity Unearthing The Void
The mix is horrible. All you hear is sub-low bass, snare, hi-hat and cymbals and the constant "breeee" of vocals (which is way overused).
Mystras Empires Vanquished And Dismantled
Slow Fall Beneath the Endless Rains
Sounds like early 2000's "tough guy metal"...and, no, that's not a compliment.
Undergang Aldrig i livet
In this day and age, there's no excuse for a terribly mixed album. Also, it's boring as f**k.

Went in with the right expectations for this record, but even that wasn't enough to save this album from a very poor rating.
Witchcryer When Their Gods Come for You

1.0 awful
Andrew W.K. God Is Partying
Archspire Bleed the Future
Tech Death Rap? Imagine taking a corroded
machete to the rapper Twista's throat and
that's what Oli Peters sounds like. It gets
old, fast, much like the music. Speaking of
the musical side of things, here are my
biggest qualms about it. The BPM's are pushed
to the max and never come down. Everything
sounds quantized to hell and back. This album
lacks so much melody and emotion, that I can't
distinguish one song from the other, which
leads to making other Tech Death bands sound
like Def Leppard by comparison. As a guitarist
for 20+ years, even I was having ear fatigue
by the third song. This was a disappointing
and almost unlistenable album for me.
Blood Incantation Timewave Zero
What a load of pretentious drivel, but watch the subservient fanboys flock to praise Blood Incantation's brilliancy.
Bulb Moderately Fast, Adequately Furious
Full of Hell Garden of Burning Apparitions
Heathen Empire of the Blind
NONE Inevitable
The distorted guitars sound like they were recorded straight in without a cabinet or IR. Completely unlistenable garbage and non-stop static. Just because they put some pads and piano notes between the Black Metal doesn't elevate it to something profound. Sound quality aside, the album is guilty of poor songwriting.
Paysage d'Hiver Im Wald
Absolute garbage. Nothing positive to say about this album.
Serpent Column Endless Detainment
Spider God Black Renditions
Teramaze And the Beauty They Perceive
Florida Georgia Line singing over some generic, weak ass djent music.
The Monolith Deathcult V3 - Vernedering: Connect the Goddamn Dots
Thy Catafalque Vadak
Unleash The Archers Abyss
The musicianship and composition is top-notch. However, the vocals are too prominent in the mix. It doesn't help that her vocal timbre sits in a frequency that the ear is sensitive to. She also yells around the same pitch for the entirety of the album. She doesn't display much of a vocal range often, which isn't to say that she doesn't have it. This combination leaves you with a headache, after you've felt like someone has been yelling in your ear for 57 minutes. The male vocals that enter on the song "Carry the Flame" are a relief to the ears. Now, it's time to go take some Tylenol.
Ushangvagush Mntu
Venomous Skeleton Drowning in Circles
Production quality sucks and so does the song writing.
