Area Arbeit Macht Frei |
My absolute favorite, encapsulates everything I seek in music. Mastercraft on all instruments, of course including one of the greatest
vocals ever. Every song is beautifully intense, groovy, and uncompromising. |
Bent Knee Shiny Eyed Babies |
Magnificent and titanic. Every song, except interludes delicate as a glass, has a MASSIVE soundscape capable of putting you in awe for its sheer intenseness. And then it has one of the most powerful vocals, switching from sweet chirping to colossal wailing like an ocean tide. |
Converge Jane Doe |
Current 93 Horsey |
David Tibet is a great singer, but I've always thought his voice fits better on harder and heavier sounding music. And while Aleph At Hallucinatory Mountain was more like Tibet singing for a doom metal band, Horsey sounds like a logical result of his neo-folk outputs combined with much heavier instruments. Meaning, it's stunningly unique and bone-chillingly badass. It also has Tibet's best vocal performance ever captured imo. |
Daniel Johnston Hi, How Are You |
Don Caballero What Burns Never Returns |
Dream Theater Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory |
Hiatus Kaiyote Choose Your Weapon |
This masterpiece makes me sad that there aren't any more prog-soul records like this. Not even other albums by this band can match up to this. Song structures are complex but make sense in building up funkiness and intensity. instruments have a lot of spaces between sounds which, with close attention, will show the incredibly tight and skillful musicianship. And of course, there are the impeccably smooth and acrobatic vocals. |

Scott Walker Bish Bosch |
Screaming Headless Torsos 1995 |
This album represents the definition of OVERLOOKED. Masterclass jazzy funk rock, with every member being a complete bonker on their instruments. The vocalist is one of the most skillful and versatile, without losing any of his
soulfulness. |
Spiral Architect A Sceptic's Universe |
One of the most unique and challenging records ever, sadly being a victim of dedicated prog-haters who bashes anything they see as
"wankery". It is painfully technical, but all the mastery are component of creating a mechanical, spiritual, and trance-like
atmosphere. A completely different beast than all too ordinary djent, tech-death, and other genres usually conceived masturbatory. |
Still House Plants If I don’t make it, I love u |
Sukekiyo Adoratio |
Tragically overlooked. Pulls off the best quality of Kyo's vocals, both fierce passion and delicate tenderness. Paired with instruments much more skilled, experimental, and boundary-pushing than Dir Eng Grey IMO. |
Takeshi Nakatsuka EYE |
Top-tier J-Pop. Colorful and chaotic burst of big band jazz goodness, with a hint of Cornelius-tinged Shibuya-kei, topped by
intoxicating dynamic yet melancholic melodies only J-Pop is capable of. This needs to be heard by MORE. |
