5.0 classic
A Perfect Circle Thirteenth Step
Agalloch The Mantle
Amazingly atmosphereic Progressive folk Metal band. Wow, this cd makes you really loose yourself in the wilderness. The clean guitars are pretty and hit in the right spot, the drummer is perfectly placed, and the vocals are awesomely beautiful. The only bad thing about this I could find is at the end of a couple songs its a bit wierd, like my one of my favorites "In The Shadow Of Our Pale Companion", this little girl starts talking in Swedish(i think), and some dude says something I can't comprehend(sounds like a frog). Besides that this cd is perfect.
All Shall Perish The Price of Existence
The perfect blend of Death Metal, and Metalcore. From the technical solos, the amazing song writing in constructing perfectly excuted breakdowns. The vocals that range from high squeals, to low growls, to normal, back the a raspy scream. The drumming is what makes this amazing, a classic I might add. The stop and go action, with the brutal pounding of the head fits right into the album, and as fast paced he is, it still fits. My favorite Death Metal album of all-time, besides anthing from Opeth
Avenged Sevenfold Waking the Fallen
This is a flawless record of Metalcore, this is how it should sound like, amazing breakdowns, with killer solos as well. The vocal range is outstanding, going from very good screaming vocals, to M. Shadows amazing clean singing(now sucks tho). This cd got me into Metalcore, and is what many bands have been influced by with a great blend of Hardcore and Metal. Best Songs: "Chapter Four", "I Won't See You Tonight, Part 1", "Second Heartbeat, "Unholy Confessions".
Between the Buried and Me Colors
This album pushes all the boundries of every genre that they could pull off, or anyone could pull off. In past albums they mixed just Metalcore, Death Metal, and Prog Rock. In this album they have a much more wider range going from Blue Grass, to Circus Music, To a Accordan, to jazz, to almost a pop alt-rock in the first song, and then your normal Prog Rock/Metalcore/Death BTBAM. The songs are at first crazy, almost to hard to handle, but the more and more you listen to it the better and better it gets, and the more it makes sense. Favorite Tracks of mine are "Ants in the Sky", "Prequel to the Sequel", and "White Walls". One of the best, if not the best, cd I have ever heard.
In Flames Colony
Simply put, In Flames at their best. This is the perfect blend of Heavy riffs, with beauiful harmonies, with extremly catchy hooks. Anders also was at his best vocals wise, as he really is very powerful in this album. This album is the first album that they really got extremely catchy all the way through, and though they probably declined after this slowly, this was their peak. "Embody the Invisable" is probabaly my favorite song by In Flames of all-time. Really the first five songs all are classics, amazing cd that never let up, even the revamped "Behind Space 99" is better than the orginal.
Insomnium Argent Moon
Opeth Blackwater Park
Not that this needs another opinion, it certainly deserves all the hype that it has around it. Everyone song flows wonderfully together, with amazing songwriteing ability of Michael Akerfeldt. After listening to Still Life, I though no way could they do anything to come near that atmosphere and greatness that came from it. Well I was wrong, while it might not be exactly as good, it still comes extremely close from it. The blend from his haunting melodies, to the harsh powerful vocals placed perfectly to spark anger in his emotions. The melodies are even catchy, as they will stick into your head, and make you want to go back to a part and listen to it over and over. What makes this a classic is all the incredable songs like "Bleak", "Funerals Potrait", "The Drapery Falls" and the epic titled song "Blackwater Park". Even the bonus songs are incredably good progressive rock songs. For any new Opeth fan, this is the cd to start with.
Opeth Still Life
Opeth Watershed
Porcupine Tree In Absentia
This is the most enjoyable and consistant Porcupine Tree album. Its a great mixture of Progressive Rock, some hints of Metal, and Psychedelic/Jazzy Rock. The lyrics are extremely impressive, but what makes this a classic is the song writeing ability of Steven Wilson. Every song is so different, and gives out so many different atmospheres, it stuns me how someone could write songs like this. From start comes my favorite song "Blackest Eyes" with powerful drumming, and to finnish it has one of the simpliest pretty songs Ive listen to in "Collaspe The Light Into Earth". Must Buy for Any Rock/Metal Fan.

My favorite songs on this album was "The Teason Wall", "Format C: for Cortex", and "Damage Done". Top to bottom this was a very well done album almost a classic in my view.

Tool 10,000 Days
This album was awesome, but probably not their best effort but very close to it because of the more lighter progressive elements they showed in this album. Tool has been known for their dark eerie lyrics, which a heavy bass and odd timed riffs. This album is nothing like their previous album, and a lot more emotional to Maynard?s heart we though we never would see. The album title is approximately how many days his mother suffered with cancer and she finally lost her battle to it. The lyrics show the soft side of Maynard and show the great skills Tool has on creating long majestic songs at no point get bored to. The two part song Wings of Mary talking about his mother is like an epic masterpiece we all knew Maynard had the skill of doing and did it. This album has heart and that?s why it is my number two. Songs to check out "Vicarious", "10,000 Days", "Right in Two".

Ulver Perdition City
Unexpect In a Flesh Aquarium
Yes, this is the best album of the year of 2006,in Metal, not only is it great in musicianship it is something that has never been even dreamed about. Its so crazy, its so out there it has to be number one just on its creativity. This album is was everything I thought I would never like, but it has really stretched out my horizons and how I look at music nowadays. The drummer with his pounding double bass the violin, the 9-string Base player, the guitars going every which way, the piano, the death growling, the great vocals by their lead woman lead singer. All this in one band, and in this album it was all put together. Really I don?t know where to describe this album, but it has the heart and the great song writing now one can imagine. Each song is a emotional roller coaster you never want to get off of, because its so different and so unlike anything you have ever heard. If you have a open mind about music, I mean a real open mind, this is a great album from you.

Deadlock Manifesto
Much improved transitions in their song writeing has caused this album to flourish compared to their very mixed bag albun "Wolves". Deadlocks lead singers, Sabine and Joe, seem more intuned with each others vocals, and well mixed this time around. While their song writeing really lacks in throwing in random rapping or techno mixes that sometimes does not mix well. Save that bad moment(fixable on Itunes but cutting that), overall their sound seem more fine tuned. The lead guitars are excellent with awesome catchy riffs while drumming does its job at keeping the music steady and on pace. Overall an awesome album, and should be checked out. Best Songs "The Brave / Agony Applause", "Fire At Will", "Slaughter's Palace", "Dying Breed" and "Altruism".
Deadlock Wolves
This band is the perfect for showing off the two extremes in vocals, from death growls that are gutteral, deep and dark. To the beautiful vocals of Sabine, it shows the light and dark of emotions. The guitarists and drumming create an Melodic Death Metal like feel, that is pretty technical I might add. These guys are extremely catchy on songs like "Code of Honor", where you can't help but go with it. The only minus's I can think of is sometimes a song my drag on a little too much on a couple songs. Overall great effort from really a new band I just discovered.

This album was probably the album that got me really into In Flames, its catchy and its absoutely brillant one of the best cd's I have bought. Every song is different with songs like "Cloud Connected" that uses more speical effects, and "Dawn of a New Day" and "Metaphor" which have a folky Metal type style to it. But it still has kick ass moments too with "System" and "Egonomic" that just punch you in the face with energy. Every song just amazes me, if your a new In Flames fan then get this album it opens up your mind to Melodic Death MEtal...The Kings of it!

Atreyu The Curse
This album is Atreyu at their flashiest, the vocalist is at his peak and the relief vocals are good. They are a melodic hardcore/metalcore band but they are an exception to the run of the mill whinning bands out nowadays. They do have emotional lyrics, but their lyrics are more about being angry than about crying about their problems. The riffs(when not a rip off of In Flames) are pretty good. The drummer does his job at keeping the pace of the album, really nothing spiecal. If you don't like melodic metalcore don't get it but if you are open about it try it out, they are fairly better from the rest of the pack.

Not bad start for this new Metalcore band, pretty decent breakdowns, very well done breakdowns, awesome death vocals, but clean vocals are meh. They have a tendancy to have a lot of chanting...and some times lame lines like "Ride them cowboy". Maybe next effort they will grow up a bit and cut out the fat in this record. Overall solid cd.

This album is quite impressive, it much more Melodic than there last album. The clean singing is much improved, as for the screaming is still pretty solid. This seems to be very well done with melodic guitrar riffs, much like the style of Soilwork but with a more Metalcore edge. The drumming is solid as well, with punishing double bass, following the somewhat audiable bass play(shocking!). The only bad thing about this album is its nothing new, its just solid metalcore but its still very good.

This band has potential, the excellent lyrics, and indrustial sound is something a bit better than comes from the mainstream metal scene latly(or Nu-Metal). His vocals are unque but takes some getting used to. Songs like "So Many People" shows how catchy they can be, but the problem most of the songs seem fillerish, or too generic with the RapMetal norm. Overall, its a good effort, but really only a few songs really stand out.

While the Devil Wear Prata show they are unlike any other metalcore/hardcore outfit. They did need to work on overall song structures/song writeing. This album has plenty of awesomely timed breakdowns and interesting riffs. The problem lies with the things in between thsoe moments that really damper this album. Another problem that they had in this album is the consistant quality of good songs, some songs seem filler or rushed. Overall good debut, but lots of room to progress into something better.

This album is kinda dissapointing, there last album was pact with intensity, it had great vocals, good keyboards, and some strong lyrics that fit the music. This album falls a bit short, they try to go the more softer road, but its lacking the keyboards atmosphere from the previous. Insteads its a bit genric, and a bit trying to get some radio play. The positives about this record is it does still have some deep vocals, the guitar work is still decent, and its a bit more catchy. Its good, just not as good as there last one.

This album is good but nothing great thanks to Matt Heafy's vocals in which sound a lot like Metallica's Singer but try's way too hard to pull it off. With that said the solos and some songs are really awesome, just lacks the consistancy of the their previous albums. The real problem happens when they try to push a chourus that just don't sound right or fit with the song and Matt drags his vocals. Never the less if you can get over the vocals its a good cd. Just disappointing

Not as bad as people are making it out to be. Really it just has some major flaws that hold it back from being a decent album. The harsh vocals are decent, what makes it bad is the random use of clean vocals that destroy any good momentum of the album. While I give props to Cryptopsy for trying to change their style and venture out on a different sound. They really didn't create anything new. While its not completely generic their are tons of bands that do this style a lot better (See All Shall Perish). Also, there is really no stand out songs, besides the very flawed songs that have awful clean vocals misplaced in the songs.

This is what I never wanted to see in this band, they totally ran out of gas. Really do you blame them, being on top of the world for so many years, really its impressive it took them 20 years to finally run out of juice. This album lacked any decent solos, or any orginal song writeing, it just looked like Metallica gave up and said well this is how Nu-Metal Bands do it, so here it is...and even at that this is not even a decent Nu-Metal album. Its a stinker
