Botch We Are the Romans
This record influenced literally every band that plays metalcore. If it weren't for this record (let alone this band), there would be no pop-metalcore scene.
Converge Jane Doe
One of the most fascinating releases in punk/hardcore ever. Their sound comes from seemingly impossible places and converges (hehe, get it?!) to one narrow pathway that leads to the hardcore utopia. I can hear sounds from Scandinavian d-beat, San Diego and New Jersey screamo (or whatever you call it now), Rorschach (most obviously), doom metal, ambient, and the absolutely necessary influence of 80s American hardcore punk and thrash metal. The most beautiful (and simultaneously scary) "metalcore" album I've ever heard in my life.

Quickly became one of my favorite albums. Their willingness to go so far in one direction and so far in another baffles and intrigues me. The more melodic songs are an excellent departure and the heavy parts are incredible. The briefness of the album, for me, is a strong point, because any longer, and it may have been less cohesive. But then again, I like Discordance Axis, so what do I know? Great album.

To me, the sound on this album is much better than Gutter Phenomenon (which should be a 3 or a 3.5 at most). The style (metalcore blended with southern rock) that they are continuing with this album but introduced on Gutter is more cohesive and, well, better. The album as a whole is much tighter than Gutter, though as a result, I can't pick out individual songs that are great, whereas with Gutter that is possible. Not as good as Hot Damn, but better than Gutter, which to me constitutes a higher rating.

This album is awesome. Pretty much everything this band puts out is fascinating. This was an early departure from the "straighter" hardcore punk from the EPs (the self-titled and Farce). The output to follow is quite mind-bending for the most part, but this work is still great.

You'd think with the change in singers, the sound would evolve. Wake the dead is fucking great, as is Turn It Around. But I wanna hear something new. It's not terrible, but it's not all that interesting. In fact, I'd go as far to say it's boring. Really boring.

I've always thought this band was really boring. Their sound is a mere replication of GBH and (even more so) The Skeptix, but with more repetitive lyrics and less interesting guitar work. Nothing new. At all.
The Chariot The Fiancee
The Exploited Punks Not Dead
This band is way overrated in the scheme of great UK hardcore punk bands. When one thinks about great bands such as GBH, Varukers, and Discharge, it is hard to like The Exploited more than said groups because of a sound that is, while catchy and easy to sing-a-long to, repetitive and quickly becomes dull. And considering their atrocious and cheesy new material, they're now nothing more than a T-shirt band.

GBH Ha Ha
I'm really sorry, this album is just stupid. I can't take it seriously, considering GBH's previous output, which is nothing short of fantastic. The lyrics are boring, the riffs are nowhere near as erie and powerful, and the majority of the songs follow the exact same tempo, making the whole album feel like they wrote the entirety of the songs in an hour prior to entering the studio. It's a sad attempt. They were great live on the supporting tour, but this album just doesn't cut it.
