5.0 classic
Alice in Chains The Essential Alice in Chains
Jay-Z American Gangster
An album based on a movie. Clever. Maybe not, though. That's of absolutely no importance, however. The album's great, great, great. Better than The Blueprint, even. It bears quite a few similarities to it, except with more memorable production, better hooks. Possibly best album of 2007.
Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin
Metallica Master of Puppets
Pink Floyd The Dark Side of the Moon
Radiohead OK Computer
The Beatles Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
The Who Live at Leeds
When I first bought the album, I was a bit skeptical of it, fearing that it wouldn't live up to my expectations, it being the "best live album of all time" and whatnot. Dear god, did it meet my expectations. Any idea of being of the Who "power pop" vanishes completely in a live environment. Bursts of juicy, overdriven guitar goodness dominate almost every track in here. Not to mention the best rhythm section in rock music ever letting loose (and by the Who's standards...well, you get my meaning. And I hear that wasn't a particularly great evening.
Word of advice: Get the edition with the whole of "Tommy" in it. With this, the more, the merrier. There isn't a single bad track on here.

Well, it definitely matches the hype, although not quite what some might expect. The album's got a definite country and blues vibe to it, with most tracks sporting some excellent slide guitar, which makes for quite a departure from the rhythm&blues-based stuff of their earlier work. I must admit, the album doesn't rock that hard, but the few rockers there are ("Street Fighting Man", "Stray Cat Blues" and of course "Sympathy for the Devil") do quite well. A definite Stones classic.

Dear god, this man's annoying. Here he comes, in the middle of a music scene taking itself all too seriously, where every rawk geetarist considers himself an artist, and thinks he can just "lighten things up" by making this silly, campy but ultimately catchy and FUN pop album. Well he's fucking wrong. It comes off as annoying most of the time. He does have his great moments, like "Grace Kelly", in which he manages to work the kitsch in his favor (I actually saw him playing that song on TV way before he released his album and got famous). Others, like "Love Today", are so infuriatingly annoying you'll want to wipe his smile off with a cheese slicer.
Still, some seem to like this sugar-coated piece of manufactured joy, so I suppose it has some worth to it. Buy at your own risk.
Radiohead In Rainbows
For some reason, I cannot comprehend just what people see in this album. It doesn't compare in any way to their earlier releases, and even taken out of context it doesn't really boast any decent melodies or arrangements. "Nude" is quite nice, but no other track on the album really goes anywhere, the tracks generally lack direction. I'll admit to not having bought the second disc, but really, I'm not terribly compelled to do so. It's an okay listen, but nothing worth your money.
