Not much to really explain here. Most people know that this is a true classic and Progressive Rock at its absolute best. Every song on this gem of an album is absolutely incredible and well done. It would be a sin not to rank this one up there with some of the best albums I've ever encountered.
Pink Floyd Animals
Porcupine Tree Fear of a Blank Planet
I really love this album. From the opening "Fear of A Blank Planet" to the epic "Anesthetize", this album just keeps giving the listener something to love. This was my first experience with Porcupine Tree, and by far my best. I later got Deadwing, but I didn't like it near as much as Fear of A Blank Planet. This album just has so much more to offer and just comes off sounding more Metal-esque compared to their other stuff.

Devin Townsend Project Deconstruction
Devin Townsend has, once again, released an album worthy of praise with Deconstruction. Deconstruction manages to take everything that the Dev has accomplished musically throughout his whole solo career and combines it into a gigantic monster of an album. This album is epic, heavy, melodic, catchy, beautiful, and downright funny. I think its sad when people write Townsend off for being a tongue in cheek musician. Yes, the humor he uses is immature....that's the point! Its to grab a laugh. Its to make listeners say "Wow.....he really just did that?" However, in the end, it works. Why? Because this music is FUN. Never once has Townsend taken himself seriously throughout his whole musical career and it shows on this album. Why is he one of Metal's most adored musicians? Because he has fun and doesn't give a damn what anyone thinks. For that, I respect the Dev. This album is a journey from start to finish and should be looked at as nothing more than an amazing album. Anyone who can't get past the fact that this album is completely tongue in cheek needs to retract the stick from their ass and try to have fun with music instead of acting as if music should only be restricted to serious matters.

I never doubted Jeff Loomis when he finally announced he was going to release a solo album. The dude is a friggin' shred machine! Of course, this album does not disappoint. Every song on this album glistens with nothing but top notch shred. What can you expect from Loomis? The guy knows how to melt some faces. I hope to see more solo work from Loomis, because this album was fantastic and an absolute joy to listen to.

This album kicked me in the face from beginning to end. What I love so much about this band is the ingenious guitar work. It really sets the mood for this alien theme these guys were going for with this album. This is one of the most brutal yet interesting and different Technical Death Metal albums I've listened to in quite a while. These guys are definitely headed in the right direction!

After disappointing many of their closest fans with their somewhat lacking release, Systematic Chaos (I still found it to be a pretty good album. Would have been better if "Forsaken" was taken out), Dream Theater have returned with their newest release, Black Clouds and Silver Linings. While the album is definitely not the best DT have released, it still is certainly a top notch album by the group. They certainly do not hold back. In fact, their Metal influences have certainly grown since the last album, with blast beats even making an appearance! However, it never sounds out of place and the album flows well. Many of the songs are very long (most over 12 minutes in length), but that's what DT do, and they do it wonderfully. This fantastic release should not make any DT fan unhappy.

This album includes some of Mike's best work, such as: "Rain Forest", "No Boundaries", "Peace" and "The Finish Line". Amazing album!

An excellent and well written Death Metal album from a lesser known Death Metal act. These guys don't have too much of an album history, even though they have been around since 1996, but they still did a great job on "Aurum". I hope to hear more from this awesome Death Metal act in the near future.

Amon Amarth With Oden on Our Side
Arsis We Are the Nightmare
This album was pretty awesome. There were definitely some parts that were outstanding; however, the album did have some "meh" to it. To me, it just wasn't too memorable. While still a great album, I haven't felt compelled to play it much lately, but boy do I remember playing the crap out of this album when I first purchased it! It sure is technical as all get out, but Arsis is not the most polished and outstanding Tech Death band I have come across. To me, bands like The Faceless and Necrophagist blow these guys out of the water, but that doesn't mean Arsis is a bad band. This album is certainly a step in the right direction for Arisis.
As I Lay Dying Shadows Are Security
Burst Origo
Coheed and Cambria The Second Stage Turbine Blade
Well I finally listened to it! Is it near as good as I thought it would be because of all the praise? No. Honestly, in my opinion, this album is way over hyped. It definitely has it's moments with great song such as the opening track "Time Consumer" and the hit single "Devil In Jersey City", but it never had that same catchy affect on me as the other C&C albums. I know this was less mainstream but I personally think their newer stuff is much better than this. Great album but definitely not the best in the series as many attest it to be.

Immolation Shadows in the Light
Before I bought this album, I hadn't had much experience with brutal Death Metal. Nile was the only brutal Death Metal band that I would give a listen, and that was mainly because of some of their Egyptian themes and mild progressive elements. However, Immolation managed to make a very good first impression on me. This album contains some of the craziest brutal Death Metal out there. Many of the riffs make my skin crawl, but, at the end of the day I just want to headbang like a madman to every single song on this album, which is a serious plus for any Metal band. Now, while I like the album, there just really wasn't anything truly original about it. Therefore, I'm not going to give it an outrageous score. Still, this album brings some top notch Death Metal, and I truly recommend this to any Death Metal fan. Of course, if you don't like Death Metal, then there is nothing here that will change your mind. This is straight up brutal Death Metal that will beat your cranium into pieces.

This is a great album. There are really some very well written and impressive songs on this album. Some parts did hit me as cheesy, but, hey, it's Power Metal! My biggest problem with this album was the singer. Sometimes he was spot on and other times it seemed as if he was struggling. However, the best part of Elements is Timo Tolkki's fantastic guitar work. And, of course, it sure stands out here. I recommend this to any Power Metal fans.

August Burns Red Messengers
I, for quite a while, had really wanted to get a hold of this album. I'm quite an avid metal head, but I do love some occasional great Metalcore, such as As I Lay Dying. From some of the stuff I had heard from this band, it seemed that I would really love them, but after a couple listens to this album, it's apparent that ABR is not all I looked forward too. The technical playing is nice and the songwriting overall can be pretty good at times, but the biggest thing that bothers me is the blatant overuse of breakdowns, which is something that has become quite ridiculous in the Metalcore genre today. This band does not avoid it and some of the songs fall short because of it, causing a true lack of originality it many of the songs. However, this is still a likable album and worth an occasional listen. Just don't expect anything spectacular.
Becoming The Archetype The Physics of Fire
Exodus Tempo of the Damned
This album delivers in many areas. The riffs are fantastic and the song structure is quite interesting. My biggest gripe, however, is the grating and annoying vocals. To me, they just do not fit the intensity of the music. To some they might sound right at home, but they really ruined the album for me. Honestly, what makes the album is the great instrumentation, which is quite phenomenal at times. As far as instruments go, this is Thrash at it's finest. I suggest picking this up if you want a pretty good Thrash listen but nothing here will blow you out of the water.

I remember purchasing this album years ago. Merely hearing "I Hate Everything About You" and "Just Like You", I thought I would enjoy the rest of the album. However, this was not the case. "Home" was the only other song on the album I even remotely liked. The rest was unforgettable slop. Three Days Grace has never been an outstanding band. Somehow, they managed to get a little recognition within the mainstream music scene, and their career slowly skyrocketed. Still, that doesn't mean the music was good, and this album is a perfect example of that.

An absolutely abysmal album, to say the least. Sad thing is that I used to adore this band. However, this was back in the days when radio rock amongst children was considered to be the "cool" stuff. Heck! I considered these guys to be pretty hardcore! Sad. Like I said, terrible album, terrible band, and ridiculously bad music.
