5.0 classic
Kings of Leon Only By The Night

4.5 superb
Bishop Allen The Broken String
Brandon Flowers Flamingo
This album confirm Flowers as one of today's best song writers.

4.0 excellent
Shout Out Louds Howl Howl Gaff Gaff
not the perfect album but definitely has it's moments.

3.0 good
Manic Street Preachers Send Away The Tigers
Polly Scattergood Polly Scattergood
A decent enough debut. Some great and above all interesting songs here, not all work but the ones that do sound great
The Big Pink A Brief History of Love

2.5 average
Biffy Clyro Only Revolutions
Not a terrible album but too many of the songs fall back to 'alt rock standards' like so many of these bands do when they run out of fresh ideas.
Katy Perry One of the Boys
Lady Gaga The Fame
Some of the songs are ok but the whole thing feels too plastic and 'designed' which detracts any pleasure from it. I don't believe for one second that she writes her own songs, smells like a marketing gimmick to me as is the dressing like a cross dressing hooker. Good music doesnt required such gimmicks.
The Prodigy Invaders Must Die
Just not up to the standard of previous albums, the occasional decent track but alot of boring filler too

2.0 poor
La Roux La Roux
Lily Allen It's Not Me, It's You
Maximo Park Quicken The Heart
Sounds incredibly dated. It would have been original before the strokes but seriously this kind of sound is so over.

1.5 very poor
Aiden Knives
worse than you think it's going to be. Cheesy and contrived. They obviously want to be heavy metal but without losing the mtv audience and fall down the gap in between.
All Time Low Nothing Personal
Bat For Lashes Two Suns
Eminem Relapse
Gallows (UK) Grey Britain
U2 No Line on the Horizon
Another tired rehash of the same album they've been releasing every year for the last 15 years.

1.0 awful
Blessthefall Witness
Empire Of The Sun Walking On A Dream
A record full of samey retro synth pop that's beyond being dull. Comparing them to MGMT is like comparing mozart with muzak because they use the same notes.
Enter Shikari Take to the Skies
Agree with most people, poor and unoriginal post-hardcore band with a dance track gimmick that sounds like it took all the talent of pushing the eurodance button on the keyboard to create.
Enter Shikari Common Dreads
Lady Gaga The Cherrytree Sessions
This of little worth other than to test how much commercial life this no talent has left.
Muse The Resistance
I simple cannot explain how anyone can listen to this guy's awful wailing and think that it's singing. The music is very middle of the road, a hundred other bands are doing exactly the same, heard it all before many times kind of stuff. The lyrics just come across as pretentious teenage nonsense. The single most detestable thing about this band is not the ludicrously over the top promotion and adulation from the sycophantic media but the fact that they actually seem to believe they have talent and come out with such pretentiousness.
Paramore Brand New Eyes
I know these are still pretty young but by a third album you'd expect some maturity, yet it still sounds like the rubbish you'd expect from a bunch hormonal teenagers desperate to assert themselves and losing themselves in a 'i hate you' screeching fit that has the opposite effect. The lyrics try far too hard to be profound but due to the lack of maturity are trite and often very repetitive, they really do seem to run out of those alot quicker than most of these bands. The worst thing about the album is the sheer lack of experimentation, even for an emo/pop-rock band this is a formulaic, there's simply no hint of them ever daring to venture away from the already well trodden ground and the majority of the songs are indistinguishable. This is never really helped by the voice and cringe-worthy enunciation. I'm sure this will appeal to the kids it's obviously designed for but there's nothing here to take seriously
