Has to be a 5. What an album!! Even the bonus track is cool
Brand New The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me
Camel Mirage
Cannibal Corpse Butchered at Birth
Arguebly the worst out of their first 3 albums, but that is exactly why I like it. This album just makes sense to me. The riffs while not completely original are very interesting in the fact that you don't expect them. The cover is the most disgusting and yet intruiging cover in probably all of death metal. And while many people complain about the sound I think this album sounds unique. Butchered at Birth is the perfect album to just slay a massive amounts of zombies to, and I am totally OK with that.
Charles Mingus Mingus Ah Um
Converge Jane Doe
Cryptopsy None So Vile
Cynic Traced in Air
The closing song does it justice with closing the concept of the album, but it falls sorta short of the rest of the album. I'm torn between a 5 and a 4.8 on this one.
Darkthrone A Blaze in the Northern Sky
Death The Sound of Perseverance
Death Human
Deep Purple Machine Head
Excellent combination of bass guitar, guitar, keyboard, and a fantastic singer all in classic rock n' roll format - what's there not to love about this album?
Dio Holy Diver
Discordance Axis The Inalienable Dreamless
Edge of Sanity Crimson
I still have to listen to this again, but the riffs and progressions are fairly smooth except I can't really bring myself to "5" it. I think a lot of people's 5's come from the fact that making a 40 minute, one song concept album is so impressive that they give it one more star just because of the innovation factor.

Similar to Jimmy Eat World's Bleed American, this album captures so many emotions within its minutes and it allows me to listen at any time for any reason. Superbly done and the BASS TONE IS OUT OF THIS WORLD!

No nonsense. Too short to loose its punch and staying power. Every time I want my face melted this does the trick.
Third Eye Blind Third Eye Blind
Thrice The Illusion of Safety
Amazing riffs, and an excellent use of instruments make this a post hardcore album, but no where near a predictable post hardcore album. rCredit to Adam Thomas' review for convincing me to pick up this album. I haven't regretted it since.

Ahh, the very album that got me listening to rock music. I heard Out of Exile and somehow ended up with this album, but that is OK. This album is better than Out of Exile.
Audioslave Out of Exile
Not as good as Audioslave. Still excellent, but not as consistent.
August Burns Red Rescue & Restore
Baroness Red Album
Bathory Blood Fire Death
Bathory Under the Sign of the Black Mark
Behemoth Demigod
Near perfect, but some sections in songs drag the album in where in a perfect album this would not happen.
Benighted Asylum Cave
Between the Buried and Me Colors
Black Sabbath Paranoid
Black Sabbath Black Sabbath
Obviously its a classic being the first ever metal album ever, but that doesn't necessarily make it "classic" status. Although "Black Sabbath" does contain some of my favorite Black Sabbath riffs/sections of all time, the album is really random at a lot of parts. In other words, it is not put together too cohesively unfortunately.

How does this album NOT have a review???? It is an excellent concept album.
Deep Purple Deep Purple In Rock
At least 10 years ahead of it's time. It is easy to see where Led Zeppelin and certain thrash bands take their influence from on this record.
Def Leppard High 'N' Dry
Def Leppard BEFORE they started sucking. Everything a NWOBHM album would need: wailing vocals, pounding drums, monster riffs, and intelligent bass fills.
Deftones White Pony
Deftones Around the Fur
Deftones Saturday Night Wrist
Closer to a 3.8 It has a lot of good Deftones songs, but not enough to really propel it to a 4. Some of the songs don't quite live up to "Deftones songs."
Deftones Diamond Eyes
Deftones Koi No Yokan
Deicide The Stench of Redemption

The riffs from this album are straight out of hard rock/metal heaven. It doesn't get much better than this.

Morbid Angel Blessed Are the Sick
A 4 at its very best, Blessed Are the Sick is praised by many bands from Nile to Suffocation, but it really lacks what made Altars of Madness so special. Yes, it is creepy and at times fun to listen to; other times it sounds boring and like the instruments are just creating a background to last beyond the 1-2 minute punk boundary line. In all honesty, this is a 3.7-3.8.

Very ahead of its time. A LOT of bands copied off of this album/band. You can hear it in Botch, every sludge band now, hell, even Tool might be have slightly influenced by them in their later material. These guys must have loved Brutal Truth or something because that is the only album that I know of to mix some noise/sludge/grindcore at that time. rHowever, the album just turns into a big mess. Nothing fits together it is seriously just noise. A handful of the parts are sweet, but it is nothing that I could ever sit down and intently listen to again. This would be a good album to space out to, but that's it.

Excellent electronics (and that is something coming from someone who HATES electronics). There is a Hell does seem better still to me, but maybe this one will grow one me like that one did. Personally, most of the songs sound like better keyboards on their previous album's songs and the tracklist seems kind of lopsided with medium heavy tracks, two or three really deep atmospheric ones, and a hardcore anthem in "antivist." I was hoping for more atmosphere in this one, but its certainly not bad. Still deciding whether this is a "4" or a "3.5"

Would be a definite classic if the mixing didn't suck so bad. The bass drum is wayyyyyyyyyyyy too high in the mix and you can barely hear the keyboards and female vocals at all.

Weird for weirdness sake. It's too much for me. Sure, it's unique as hell, but that's about it. I can't get into any of these songs.

This album is extremely uncommon in the fact that not only does it include some of the best lead work I have ever heard in metal, but it contains some of the worst song composition and structure characteristics at the same time.

Oddly, the second half beginning with the 7 minute track are what saves this album. The "hits" in the beginning are good, but they are fleeting compared to the more introspective tracks on the second side.

It's ok. Their use of breakdowns sort of breaks up what would have been a sick death metal song, but they do have some fairly creative passages in most of the songs.

Certainly better than the excuse for an album "KSE II" was, but it is still held back on the fact that it leans on a strong chorus too much. With that being said, Jesse Leach is stronger than ever.

In this album Norma Jean answers two questions: What would it sound like if a Christian band covered Botch and how many breakdowns can possibly fit into a 2 minute song? Some of the moments are spectacular, but most just beat the listener into boredom.
