Previous albums were already extremely strong entries for Haken and really set the bar high for this English group. However, Haken manages to soar above the bar with The Mountain. The album has no wasted space, no needless technicality, and no element ever feels out of place. This album is a masterpiece and anyone who claims to be a fan of Progressive rock or metal should give this album a try.Iron Maiden The Number of the BeastMegadeth Rust in PeaceNative Construct Quiet WorldOpeth Blackwater ParkPink Floyd The WallQueensryche Operation: MindcrimeRush 2112Zero Hour The Towers of Avarice4.5 superbAbnormal Thought Patterns Manipulation Under AnesthesiaAkira Yamaoka Silent Hill 2Animals As Leaders The Joy of MotionArch/Matheos Sympathetic ResonanceBlack Sabbath ParanoidBlack Sabbath Heaven and HellBlind Guardian A Night at the OperaBlind Guardian Imaginations from the Other SideCommunic Waves Of Visual DecayCynic Traced in AirCynthesis ReEvolutionThe combination of Erik Rosvold's melodic and emotional vocal work with the amazing guitar and bass work of the Tipton brothers proves to be just as great a success as Cynthesis' first album "Deevolution". Just as with their last album Cynthesis focuses primarily on delivering a story through impressive atmosphere and carefully constructed songs. This is exactly what makes a great Progressive metal album. While we know the Tipton brothers are capable of extremely technical work from their work with Zero Hour with cynthesis the instrumentation is much more restrained; however, the points where the instruments really pick up are carefully timed and prove to be another tool Cynthesis uses to drive the story and deliver on the impressive atmosphere. The attention to the pacing and atmosphere is what really separates this album from the rest. A Moment in Chiros is an excellent Progressive-power metal album. The execution is extremely good with strong riffs, bombastic beats, great keyboard work, and King's soaring vocals. The concept is the icing on the cake as I have always found the more thought provoking albums to be the ones that stay with me longest. Anyone who considers themself a fan of Progressive or Power metal should immediately look into this album if they have not already.Megadeth Peace Sells... but Who's Buying?Megadeth EndgameMetallica Master of PuppetsMyrath Tales of the SandsNevermore Dreaming Neon BlackNightwish OceanbornNovembre MateriaOpeth Still LifeOpeth Ghost ReveriesOrphaned Land Mabool (The Story of the Three Sons...)Pain of Salvation Remedy LanePain of Salvation BePain of Salvation The Perfect Element, Part 1Pink Floyd The Dark Side of the MoonPorcupine Tree DeadwingPsychotic Waltz Into the EverflowPyramaze Disciples of the SunRedemption The Fullness of TimeRiverside Second Life SyndromeRiverside Out of MyselfRush Moving PicturesRush Permanent WavesRush Clockwork AngelsClockwork Angels has such a tight focus and such energy that has been lacking from any Rush release post Moving Pictures. The only real negative is that it is missing the same fluidity that makes an album worth listening to all the way through.Pain of Salvation Road Salt OneThe shift in style might be jarring for fans of PoS, but Road Salt One is a step up from the preachy and ill conceived Scarsick. Elements of blues along with a more vintage 70's style of Prog rock dominate this album. If one is able to deal with the drastic transition in style from earlier albums a gem of an album is underneath. However, low production values plague this album and really bring down the album which would otherwise be quite excellent.Paradise Lost GothicParadise Lost IconQueensryche Promised LandRedemption RedemptionRush SignalsRush CounterpartsRush Grace Under PressureShadow Gallery Room VSieges Even ParamountSymphony X Paradise LostSymphony X IconoclastSystem of a Down System of a DownThe Devin Townsend Band SynchestraTheocracy TheocracyThreshold SubsurfaceThreshold Dead ReckoningTool UndertowZero Hour Dark Deceiver3.0 goodAmorphis EclipseAmorphis The Beginning of TimesBlack Sabbath Never Say Die!Blind Guardian A Twist in the MythBloodbath Resurrection Through CarnageBloodbath The Fathomless MasteryDisturbed IndestructibleDisturbed AsylumDisturbed The Lost ChildrenDream Theater Systematic ChaosEdge of Sanity UnorthodoxFaith No More Album of the YearGodsmack AwakeGodsmack The OracleHelloween The Time of the OathHelloween Master of the RingsHelloween Straight Out of HellImages of Eden Images of EdenImperanon StainedIron Maiden The Final FrontierKamelot Ghost OperaKamelot Poetry for the PoisonedMegadeth Cryptic WritingsMetallica ReloadNovembers Doom The Novella ReservoirNovembers Doom Into Night's Requiem InfernalPain of Salvation ScarsickParadise Lost Shades of GodPorcupine Tree The IncidentQueensryche American SoldierIs this a glimmer of hope... yes its not on the same level as MindCrime, Empire, or even Promised land, but it is alot better than what they have been churning out for the past few years.Rage Against the Machine Evil EmpireSkrillex Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites2.5 averageAvenged Sevenfold Avenged SevenfoldBlack Sabbath Technical EcstasyChildren of Bodom BlooddrunkChildren of Bodom Relentless Reckless ForeverEdge of Sanity Nothing But Death RemainsHelloween Pink Bubbles Go ApeMegadeth The World Needs a HeroMegadeth RiskMegadeth Super ColliderMetallica LoadYes it is not even close to being as good as puppets, lightning, justice, or even the black album but a few gems keep this from completely sinking into mediocrity.
