| 21st Century Breakdown was a terrible disappointment; we have a pile of terrible lyrics in one corner and a berated and recycled look in the other. American Idiot is their Everest and they've far from tackled it with this follow up. I genuinely feel as though American Idiot was their last true 'Hurrah!' and from now on it's all looking to be three tired old men (and poor Jason White) working to retirement, not with a bang but with a whimper for poor 'ole Green Day ahead of us. With their new Album on the way this will either be conformed or, let's hope for it, a denied future for these guys. As a fan I really, honestly don't want this to happen to one of my favourite bands, but it can't be denied that it's definitely looking to be going that way for them. |
